Dave is an engineer by profession. He is profoundly clever and commands great respect within the low-carb and keto community due to his willingness to challenge prevailing narratives, encouraging us to explore alternative perspectives on lipid metabolism and reconsider our understanding of LDL, particularly in the context of lean mass hyper-responders like myself.
We dive into how LDL became so vilified, with Dave shedding light on several crucial research findings. We explain what low-mass hyper-responders are, examine biases and cognitive dissonance, touch on Dave’s new LMHR study, and discuss the Miami Heart study, a longitudinal study of the roles of LDL and plaque burden.
IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN ABOUT:
• Why LDL is considered a villain
• How AMRs and APB lipoproteins have influenced how we look at risk stratification
• What is a lean mass hyper-responder?
• How a low-carb, high-fat diet can improve the metabolic health of lean mass hyper-responders
• How Dave, an engineer turned scientist, challenges conventional wisdom in the health and wellness space

I am so interested in Dave and Nick's research, because of my very high LDL, but low Trigl' and high HDL. I hope these studies will be published soon, so that our old school doctors can be informed.

In my case, 68 year old small stroke survivor, here. I have come to the conclusion that food is the biggest culprit. Crisco and and margarine half of my life! Until I learned better! I have since gone keto and take nattokinase which is clearing my carotid arteries per doppler tests. I'm a small person, yes, may be a lmhr also, not sure. Bp is better, no more palpitations with salt regulation. Ya gotta advocate for yourself! 😊 thank you both for this information!-Linda

Maybe lean mass hyper-responders are neutral and normal and healthy whereas almost everyone else walking around are fat mass under-responders (and unhealthy).

I’ve thought this for such a long time! I am 45 and never been on a medication; never had high blood pressure; never had high blood sugar or fasting insulin; and always been athletic…but still a very high LDL.

If you listen to Dave explain how doctors arrived at the firm conclusion that ApoB is causal of heart disease you might think they might be mistaken. This is why we don’t get medical advice from engineers. he understands nothing and distorts what he does understand.

Actually software engineers look at processes and if something does not make sense concerning the outcome they methodically go thru the processes to find out why. Doctors look at me with a blank stare when I ask them why When I lose ten pounds and don’t eat processed carbs all my blood markers go to normal but LDL goes up. They are too busy seeing patients to study what they are doing they just follow what they have been taught and prescribe statins. This is why people are interested in the engineering approach that is willing to look deeper.

I could be a good candidate for your study. LDL 251 HDL 59 TRIGLYCERIDE 127. My total cholesterol is very high as well. I have 4 siblings with high cholesterol & parents in which this may be familial. I’m 70. A1C 5.8. Recently extended vacation, ate everything!! Im a retired RN, recently did hours of researched & going on my very own naturopathic detox, & other adjusts. My dr suggested the Calcium CT score. I’m unsure how to reach out in any other form to sign up. I hope this is helpful.

I have such a high LDL P they didn’t even give me a number. It just said over 3500. I’ve been keto for over a year and can more for 6 months. The weird thing is that I’m not a LMHR. I have low hdl and my triglycerides keep going up. My cholesterol keeps getting worse in carnivore despite losing weight - 90 pounds so far.

I forgot to mention that I just had a CAC and it is zero. Also, no indications of mold toxicity, metal toxicity, or Lyme disease. The only problem I have is hypo thyroid. My doctor tends to think my cholesterol is because of a vitamin B deficiency (despite my diet being beef, eggs and butter). So I’m taking organ meat supplements for the vitamins and minerals and high dose iodine for thyroid (dr brownsteins protocol). I’ll know in a few months if these protocols make any difference in my cholesterol.

Maybe you're eating to much lean meat and not getting enough fat maybe try eating more salmon as well salmon belly is a awesome cut and is super high in omega 3s it would help your triglycerides, I find if I eat way to much protein my triglycerides go up a little and they're at their Lowest when I'm getting in lots of fats from coconut, salmon pork and eggs etc

My LDL shot up at 6month check on keto, but the Tri and HDL moved slower. I upped my exercise and now my HDL is higher than I've ever heard of, my Tris are near the lowest I've heard of, and my LDL is highest I've heard of.

I have high HDL and low triglycerides but my LDL while high stays about the same when I am not on statins. My LDL off medication is around 160. I am 58 and have been fit but I am a former smoker. I have high blood pressure when I am not low carb. I wonder if I lost a bunch of weight if my LDL would go up not down. I’m technically overweight and have a hard time staying keto because my blood pressure goes too low and my blood sugar goes really low. My last blood work was HDL 91, Triglycerides 67 and LDL 114 on a low dose statin. My doctor and I are at a compromise right now on the medication 😊. I am following this study closely.

Have you had a fasting insulin test? If you have been diagnosed with diabetes you may have been misdiagnosed as a T2 when you are a T1. Search KZbin for Dr Ken Berry diabetes misdiagnosed to find a good video about this.

I am 68 and have FH. I was on drug trials for zocor on my 20s and have been on various statins ever since. I developed diabetes and since realizing that statin was probably the culprit, I have taken myself OFF statins as well as diabetes meds and reversing diabetes by eating low carb. However, it was drummed into me that I should eat low fat and I probably have the highest LDL in my family. It is conflicting for me. I have thus far had no CVD events but I must admit, I am a bit nervous. I am waiting for blood work and will have to have a conversation with my doctor. My son inherited FH as well and I would love to know how to advise him too. Any suggestions? p.s. I was always skinny but that changed when I reached middle age and also had a radical hysterectomy. When I moved from South Africa to the US, my diet changed and I gained quite a lot of weight. I am trying to reverse all that.

Good luck! Remember we do need to eat meat-fat and butter etc! Trying to cut the carbs without eating enough fat would end up meaning too much protein! That would possibly cause some of the protein to be converted to glucose! The healthy animal fat is key to improving health! (Burn fat for energy!)
@sunwm2003
@sunwm2003 17 күн бұрын
The higher your animal fat intake, the healthier you are, assuming everything else is equal. This sounds ridiculous but it will save your life and your family’s. Low carb and high animal fat is the resolution for you. Look up carnivore diet on KZbin. Read the comments section.

Question: For children that are Homozygous Hypercholesterolemia, why do they develop atherosclerosis early? What is the mechanism? How are these children different from LMHR who also have very high LDL levels? What if LDL has nothing to do with CVD….but can result from vascular damage.
@nataliajimenez1870
@nataliajimenez1870 26 күн бұрын
Dr David Diamond has several presentations about analyzing people with hypercholesterolemia and it seems that the problem is that many of them also carry a mutation that makes them clot easily and the ones with hypercholesterolemia that don't have these mutations don't have increased cardiovascular risk
