The vast majority of consumer experiences with dealerships is frustrating and insulting. Everyone knows that most dealerships inflate car prices, service prices, etc. Dealerships are greedy, self-serving and in some instances, fraudulent. It's time to see them disappear.

Next time I buy a car I’ll order straight from the factory. Or directly from a private seller. Dealer markups are ruining the industry. I have a 2018 Acura that I love - almost paid off with only 45k miles. Will last me another 15 years probably. Acuras last forever. I’ll buy a Tesla after I get solar installed on house. But I’d be crazy to buy an EV with any other car manufacturer.

I think Mr. Farley has forgotten the disastrous adventure of Ford owning and operating dealerships. That short lived adventure was an absolutely disaster which they quickly learned. As a result, they quickly found that their dealer franchises were able to perform a function which Ford was not able to do.

It figures, politicians are involved! Very simple fix for the consumer and manufacturer, change the law to favor everyone or at minimal the consumer. Don't allow Dealers to add any $$$$ to the MSRP! Any options or dealer add ons, which the consumer DID NOT ORDER, cannot be charged to the consumer. It becomes a freebee for the consumer. If the Dealer does not want to lose $$ on this, don't place any options or add ons which the consumer did not want! Any ADM (Additional Dealer Markup) will be considered as BREAKING THE LAW! We need laws in place to hold the Dealers honest, which means keeping the politicians OUT other than passing the law to fix the dishonesty.

It IS about EVs and scaling production, because if they don't, they're done for. But they have the dilemma of decreasing ICE sales, prices remaining high after the recent increases and huge debt while they need to invest. All this while selling the EVs at a huge loss as their main competitor in that market (guess who) drives prices down.... because they can do so while making industry leading margins. . Plus.... Dealers.

I wish Ford would bring back their cars back in the Ford line up as well Bring back Mercery in which Ford Killed off and No one EV Grossley over price and expensive for the upkeep! I perf gas motor over a hybrid or electric! As for Ford Dealership in which ALL are GREEDY AS HELL!

Reputation ? haha Ford could benefit from a different reputation . You can't lead the re-call race , double the price ,halve the quality, and sell only to rich people ... these are huge mistakes !

I work for a Honda dealer, and thankfully so, since they don't play many of the more manipulative games I hear other dealerships do, but getting rid of dealerships would b more of a nightmare for both the manufacturer and the consumer. Buying vehicles isn't like buying furniture, where factory-direct saves everyone costs and troubles. Vehicles r highly emotional and technical, and requires sales consultants to guide consumers to the right feeling vehicle and to assist them thru the legal and technilogical complexities. If u buy direct from the manufacturer, it would just cause the manufacturer to become a dealership and consumers would have less options in locations to go to and less competition to keep their prices down. They would still have to hire consultants and support staff, like a dealership does. The problem doesn't get solved by eliminating dealerships. What fixes it is reducing the misleading and manipulative game-playing in the selling process. But, even then, many customers r problematic and drain resources, intentionally, which needs to b curtailed as well. Consumers may think dealerships r cons, at some level, but to say "buyers are liars" has much truth to it too.
