Actually, you used the daily microfoliant ALL wrong! I did the same thing first and immediately stoped using the product. But then I was told by a Dermalogica sales rep the right way to use it: you supposed to take some daily microfoliant and water in your hands and massage it so the small grinds disappear completely, then you apply it on the face. When you use it the right way, then it actually is a quite good product. It is not supposed to be a physical exfoliant.

Hi! I’m a Dermalogica Expert and I just wanted to let you know of some things that you didn’t get quite right. 1) microfoliant is meant to be whipped with water to the point that it looks like foam. You shouldn’t feel any grit. It’s more of a brightening exfoliant than a manual exfoliant. 2) essential oils aren’t bad for you. These are natural fragrances not artificial fragrances. Artificial fragrances are bad. It’s important to use skin safe essential oils which these are. Most essential oils in skincare are not skin safe which is why people have such bad reactions to them. Precleanse is safe for all skin types and removes ALL of your makeup including waterproof mascara. 3) all Dermalogica products ARE clinically proven to work. If you do your research you will see that Dermalogica is constantly developing new products with the newest technologies in skincare. 4) Dermalogica is the number 1 choice of skincare for dermatologists. As you are not a skincare professional, I don’t expect you to understand all of the science behind skincare, but you can’t get on KZbin and trash a brand if the ONE product you used, you used incorrectly and didn’t do proper research on.

jewels grace I don’t want to get into a faith argument or even continue this discussion about essential oils. If you don’t have problems using them, that’s fine, but don’t tell people who want to avoid them that they are misinformed or wrong for wanting to avoid something when there are legitimate facts to show that essential oils are in fact irritating and can have long term negative effects.

Oh come on now. I think growing old is wonderful. And we should all embrace it. Truly with your life experiences you are wise. I bet you're funny, full of spirit, extremely helpful and thoughtful. I bet you're the type that goes out of your way to make sure someone really enjoys themself. And you're a strong woman. You know how to do it right, or learn how to do it right. With age comes wisdom. I got really upset one time when I was young. All the ladies in the family had crow's feet and smile lines. My mother and Aunt were getting upset about it. And my grandmother said come now ladies. You're finally getting your wisdom lines. And those lines mean a lot. Those lines mean you can really laugh at a joke. And when you cry you cry with your whole heart. Those lines, show a long path, of striving and surviving. They're a beautiful path to wisdom. I ran to the mirror looking and smiling and no lines appeared. My grandmother found me crying. I told her I want wisdom. She said well you're well on your way. Keep a kind loving heart. Fill your life with laughter it always lifts the heart and a smile always lifts the features of the face. Which is beautiful. And you have a lot to learn my dear and you'll learn many things. But don't fret. When you start to see those lines upon your face. You will know you are well on your way to wisdom. I get emotional writing this. I truly see beauty in a mature woman. And I quite like old things. They're comforting. They're well learned and earned. Not only that they're well loved. And that goes for many things in life. But when it's people. What treasures you are. My grandmother was a reverend. Two weekends a month we would read at local old folks homes. My favorite woman to visit was my grandmother's English teacher. This woman would dress in her suit and her beautiful ruffle collars every single day. She had these glasses that just pinched right on her nose and they fit in her little vest that she would wear. That woman dressed up every day of her life until her death. She smelled of Elegance. And talk about wisdom. Wow the stories that she could tell. And of course so descriptive. She helped me a lot. She would actually make me write things to read to her. She said books can be frivolous I would rather hear words that I've never heard before. Kind of laughed and said I'm sure you've heard of practically every word. She says oh you're a logical one. Yes but, the story has to come out of your head. And I guarantee you it will be something I've never heard before. Use your imagination. She truly helped me paint a picture with my words. I truly have respect for my elders. Without all of you there would be none of us.

But...he begins the video w/ saying he went to their site & planned to do a "haul" lol but explains after seeing: 1. price & 2. ingredients, that he had a change of heart. He reviews the product he tried. If he used it improperly, I'm guessing he's prob not the only one who has so maybe that's something they could do a better job in explaining. He does reviews the brand as a whole but not from a user experience standpoint but rather brand info such as sustainability. Also his thoughts about their ingredient choices which can be found w/out buying &/or using their products. Just my two cents which is only worth that much so...no harm meant to you or your comment.✌

Karla Roman It's a brand that formulates all their products with a sh*t load of fragrance. Fragrance is one of the worst ingredients for your skin. Dermatologists said so. *DOCTORS OF THE SKIN* Do your research & educate yourself. If you still want to use this brand, serve yourself. I think he's a very objective skincare educator. I am a licensed esthetician and a dermalogica expert I have been working with them for the last 2 1/2 years I work at Ulta they are my soul brand that I use I also know about all the other brands that we carry at Ulta because I am solely responsible for the entire skin business at my location. I’m just here to educate you because that’s what you do to us I love your videos I love your enthusiasm I agree with most of what you say except the fact that Dermalogica does not use fragrances, essential oil’s are not considered fragrances, and quite frankly I have never been told that essential oils are not good for your skin in all my training never once so I’m just confused about that so the pre-cleanse is totally fine for everybody I think your caution on it was a little overdue because we use it on every single person we do services on I have never seen any bad results from pre-cleanse it is actually a must have like you said oil cleansers are, but like always you do need to follow with another cleanser like you were hating on Bella Thorne for The pre-cleanse does not stay on your skin long enough to cause any irritation. As for the daily microphone and I could tell you didn’t use it correctly because you are supposed to whip it and make it a light frothy foam to where there’s not even any grains in there, you can also mix it with another cleanser to help you get that whipped affect and to help the grains break down more. dermalogica‘s team of scientists are some of the most revolutionary scientist out there and some of the new products that they have just launched including biolumin c serum and biolumin eye serum and their new Phyto-nature firming serum are absolutely amazing. I have before and afters of true results that Dermalogica has been giving some of my clients I’m sorry I just can’t argue with the results. if I could suggest anything I would suggest trying it again or maybe even going and getting a service from a Dermalogica esthetician and they could further educate you on why Dermalogica is a great brand they can also teach you how to properly use the products because again you didn’t use the daily micro correctly and if you would have you would’ve liked it because it sounded very similar to the results of the Tatja one that you recommended.

I started using my (then girlfriend at the time) Dermalogica face scrub years ago when I lived in California. That was all I used without even applying a moisturizer which I normally do religiously. Without her knowing, a few days later she said to me, "Your skin looks so gorgeous." I noticed too. So, I continued using it daily and have never found a better face scrub anywhere. I moved away shortly thereafter to another state and town without a Dermalogica Store and haven't used it in years and haven't found ANY scrub that matched it. So, it's time for me to order online and recapture my old holy grail as well, and maybe even try some of their additional products which you recommended. Thanks for your comment. 👍

Hey! Thank you for sharing your experience with us! I have been dealing with adult acne for the last five years and my experience with dermalogica has been life-saving! Before using Dermalogica, I had tried so many products from different brands and to this day, I still try to find other brands that would perform as well as Dermalogica does on my skin, but unfortunately I cannot. I obviously do not have the knowledge you do and I am also aware that Dermalogica is an expensive brand, but I believe that your skin is the only clothing item you wear until you die so it’s worth the investment! Having said that, I understand that your main concern is to review a brand here on KZbin and not to use the product you have purchased, however I believe that the 2 products you have purchased are not representative of the brand as a whole and you using only one of the products does not provide an adequate review of the brand. Dermalogica also offers travel/ tester size packages for 40$ I think, so you can choose your skin concern (adult acne, oily skin, normal skin, dry skin, anti-aging etc) and provide a wholistic review on the brand! Disclaimer: the views presented in this comment are my personal thoughts, opinions and facts based on my personal experience with acne. Lol I'm just like you, I'm forever trying to find cheaper alternatives but always going back to it. You can get it cheaper on ebay a lot of the time if that's any help to you, and I always keep my eyes out for deals on the salon size other ebay or Amazon. Be careful cos sometimes it's sold from international countries, and I dont know what's going on with that and COVID at the moment. But I can't really justify that anyway because of environmental reasons, I just can't justify the air miles and that, so I encourage and hope other people would think similarly to me, but do with this information what you will. My sister says it's old stuff if you get it off Ebay, but I still think it works fine although if you buy straight from Derm it probably is fresher: so it's up to you really. It is extortionate either way really anyway, but the transformation your skin can have on your life is incredible and I do agree it actually is a very important investment for some. Not just for vanity either, but for health, that shit hurts! If you paid a lot of money for medicine or an operation you needed that would seem logical, so I don't know why it should be different if you have problem skin. I'm really happy for you and pleased to hear your story regardless ❤️ I do also just wanna point out that acne wasn't my skin concern, but hyper-sensitivity was mine. So for your products/concern, you may wish to use the fresher stuff, I can't really say and it's probably up to you more than anything. But Ebay is definately something to consider

My opinion about the brand I don’t think it bad. Essential oils aren’t the end of the world unless you super sensitize your skin. Also important to note that with lab research on ingridents within skincare are gonna be different base on who doing the research. Some industry people think essential oil are fine, others don’t and now some company are able to extract the harmful components of essential oil and remove them, thus making the oil suitable. In terms of formula I would rather that be talk about by chemist, dermatologist, and esthetician. you don’t need high concentration of active in skincare. High vitamin concentrate can cause contact dermatitis. As a esthetician my license give me excess to thing beyond consumer grade and dermalogica proffesional product aren’t bad. In that case they have higher active then consumer grade but there a difference when a person use it daily and when a person come once a month for a professional treatment. A lot of ppl don’t understand that you have to build your way up to tolerate better actives that will give you the best bang for your buck. I have use dermalogica for sensitive skin treatment to lower inflammation and redness on my clients. As always everyone has different skin and the way you use them can make a big difference

Jen C yeah this is why for skincare advice non industry workers I take their opinion with a grain of salt. I don’t consider skincare consultants as workers since they don’t require a license or have to go through any testing to determine their scope of practice. People should get advice from esthetician, cosmetic chemist and dermatologist.

When I was working at an Aveda salon and retail location here in the Tampa Bay Area in Florida... I was also a cosmetology student at the institute. My entire life was 4 days a week, ten hours a day at the salon, and three consecutive days a week, eleven hours a day at the institute. I was eighteen or nineteen and I still had breakouts. I have normal skin, leaning more toward the sensitive side.. I tried everything, and nothing worked. So, I asked my salon manager, who was certified in a million things what I could use to essentially fix my skin, and she subtly wrote the word dermalogica on a small piece of paper and put it in my hand since we are supposed to be huge promoters of Aveda skincare products. So, I bought six or eight of the products designed for acne prone skin. Dermalogica is without a doubt has the best skincare lines. Within a month my skin looked totally flawless, like I had a professional airbrush job done. I personally recommend this to everyone, if you are looking for a regimen, this would be your best bet. It is pricey, but a little goes a long way.

You and Dr. dray and and all the others who encourage people to use fragrance free products are really giving people truly useful advice. Before I become aware of the problem with fragrance in skincare I used to use dermalogica and other similar products with essential oils in the formulations. I left fragrance loaded junk behind about 3 years ago. My skin looks great now. I now completely blame fragrance and overly harsh cleansing for literally ALL of my previous skin problems. Now I use vanicream products, the fragrance free bioderma line, cerave and elta MD sunscreen. That’s it. It’s affordable, safe, non irritating, and protects the skin barrier. My skin is now completely intact with no eczema, acne, itching, or flares of any kind.

Theyre products are very nice, and dont irritate my sensitive red compromised skin at all. I used precleanse on myself and on many clients and none of their skin was irritated at all. And in the spa at the school we were told that the microfoliant is supposed to be mixed with a good anount of water and whipped in the hands until it is completely foamy and smooth. ❤️❤️ i love you with all my heart Hyram! Just wanted to give my insight because i havent had any problems using dermalogica.

I am an esthetician as well. Of a particular age…Over the years I feel like I’ve tried almost every product out there. I became a dermalogica convert years ago. Are they pricey at a cringe worthy level, yes, unfortunately. But, when the rubber hits the road, it works, point blank! My skin is flawless, not a wrinkle in sight, I am the after photo! So bottom line, if you want gorgeous skin that stays young and flawless, dermalogica just plain works, and that is what truly matters. I have never used a product that gives results like they do. So your opinion, at your ripe age of twenty something, although well thought out, has not stood the test of time. Call back when you have to start worrying about wrinkles. Then you’ll be wishing you used it. I’ve never had a problem with E.oils, and not all research is gospel, they don’t always get it right.

LOL...please do not take what he says as law for skincare. Pre-cleanse is made for the purpose of ALL skin types and the emollients strong enough to hold and encapsulate excess oil. Please see a licensed esthetician near you when looking for product recommendations. As an esthetician I have disregard your review on the brand. 1. You reference Paula’s choice and they are bought out by L’Oréal so any review or research is just flaming garbage 2. Dermalogica’s formulation has changed since the 80’s which is why they are still contending and used in professionals hands. 3. The ingredients that are essential oils are represented past the 1% point which means they don’t even make up 1% of the ingredients so your .01% rule is debunked 4. The microfoliant is meal ground and would not have any “chunks” in it. You probably did not read the directions on how to use the microfoliant 5. You are not supposed to wash your face or exfoliate your face in the shower which is primarily where your problem rose. 6. Pre-cleanse is hypo and lipophilic which means it dissolves in both water and fats making it a clean rinse from your skin- which is why the essential oils would not irritate the skin on top of the less than 1% statement. 7. They still teach and certify estheticians into newer technology and biochemistry within the industry ( out of the 80s they go) 8. They have a pro line which is where most of their clinical side comes from I really like that you do research and I like that you are trying to help which is great. I do watch Dr. Dray, but again the biochemistry of ingredients must be taken into considerations and that is something even dermatologists can get wrong. I’m certain you have not done enough research on these products- you also flat out say that you did not try a product but would claim that it irritate the skin (not good). One kit from Ulta is at most $50 to fully try the line, not just one product blindly. Also, those pop-up shops have licensed professionals and experts who can show you how to use the products. Please get your esthetic license or something. And stop getting information off Paula’s choice!

Hi! Dermalogica expert here! Not too sure how you used the microfoliant, but it’s best used when thoroughly mixed. Whipped in a jelly cup with water & a brush it is much more gentle, you’ll know it’s ready to be applied when it becomes frothy.

I'm curious about your training in skin care. In my training we were taught that essential oils aren't just used for aroma therapy but as an actual treatment for skin and that using proper carrier oils would prevent the possible damage you are so fixated on. You also don't seem to have done proper research on the daily microfoliant, it's clear from your critique that you missed vital information on the product.

They changed the formula to the pre cleanser, however it’s meant for people who have layers of makeup or old skin care products on there face such as sun screen, moisturizer etc. it’s supposed to make your actual chosen face wash perform to it’s full potential. Hence it being slightly harsher than your average cleanser.

As a person with sensitive and reactive skin, Dermalogica has been a LIFE SAVER!!! It’s expensive, but it’s so worth it for the The Dermalogica Precleanse balm/oil is nice, but unnecessary for me as I prefer Jajoba oil. The toner tho I find to be a bit too much for my skin, but the gentle/standard cleansing gel, supermicrofoliant, defense booster, and skin smoothing cream🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

The brand has been around for a long time for a reason, because their products WORK. I have bad adult acne, especially around my period, and horrible acne scarring that takes months to disappear. And also hyperpigmentation, very large pores on the nose full of blackheads. The blackheads are big enough, and black enough that they look like little pen marks. My skin is overly oily. I used so many products, none work. I've been using dermalogica for 2 days now, and immediately the first day I saw results. I almost cried, literally, because I've had it for 10 years since high-school. Always covered myself up with make up because I'd get comments of people asking what's wrong with my face. I don't care what people say about the brand, it works. The enlarged pores are still there but all my spots completely shrunk to nothing, and now some marks left to disappear. Yes it's expensive, but it genuinely works.

As another esthetician your using the exfoliant wrong. Essential oil isn’t fragrance perfume. The pre cleanse oil doesn’t stay on the skin long enough to cause any irritation. I’ve been working with it for years and no one has ever had a reaction or a issue.

The Limoline is a tiny tiny extract from essential oils, it’s not an additional ingredient. Microfoliant should be used in a light foam consistency not a thick scrub. The salicylic acid is 2% which is the highest legal percentage in the uk. The fragrance is natural. The pre cleanse oil is really nourishing for the skin and contains essential lipids which support elements from the skins natural barrier. Dermalogica is the product company from the international dermal institute, so they have plenty of research and clinical trials. Thank you and goodnight.

But as I've said, camp it up, and pretend to know something and you'll have millions of followers. Take EVERYTHING he states with barely a grain of salt.....

“I don’t think they are the worst brand out there” I worked with dermalogica throughout my schooling. Traveling to education classes held by dermalogica. I didn’t see any other brands out there with nearly as much education as dermalogica has to offer. And luckily, professionals get a huge discount via salon centric. No other brand with a chemical peel process has provided this much education.. for professionals and at home use.

Uh... what?? Dermalogica cleared my skin, I will live by it forever. Also, as an esthetician, I can say the microfoliant is NOT abrasive, I’ve used it on people with the most sensitive skin and they’ve loved it, and the precleanse as well! I personally love the smell and it didn’t cause “inflammation” on my moms skin and she’s the most sensitive in the family. 🤔🤔🤔

Thank you for sharing this! I just sent them a complaint with a tonne of photos - these products RUINED my skin, I had severe reactions that lasted months. I was in agony and it really affected my mental health. I was crippled with anxiety and was unable to put anything but zero derm (from chemist) on my skin. I would NEVER go near these products ever again!!!! I had a dermalogica facial, I had facial swelling and red rash all over my face, they then 'prescribed me' their ultra calming range. £300 later I had not only been mugged off, but misled and its so violating. They are not safe for sensitive skin - I hate when brands say its safe and theyre full of triggering ingredients. Even since this I educate myself on every ingredient. So glad I've found your channel!

Dermalogica is one of my HG lines. But I will say, my esthetician is trained by Dermalogica Pro, so she always tells me which products to skip over- which is surprisingly a lot from the retail line. But the microfoliant is my all time fave! And the Calming water gel is so amazing for me.

I started my serious skin care journey in 2018 because I liked how my face felt after using Dermalogica at spas, and my acne treatment was no longer necessary. I’ve sampled quite a few Derm products and the two mentioned in this video I own full-sized versions. I love using the daily microfoliant in the shower. I might use it every other week at most. I adore the precleanse oil and travel with it. I have had zero reactions to it.

Got recommended this brand by a pharmacist. After giving it a few tries I still had not found one product that didn’t burn and redden my face:( however, after having tried an ocean of different brands, desperate for a product that would actually do my skin more good than bad, I’ve come across two brands that every person with severely sensitive skin definitely deserves to know about. So if you have not done a video on them yet, please talk about La Roche-Posay and REN Skincare. They do miracles

I tried to take an esthetician’s course and the school uses products with essential oils and I will have to use those on my face to complete the course. The instructor was basically mad for me suggesting that I’m afraid of irritation and sensitizing effects from it. She said there is no way that could happen. So ignorant. So I did not join that school.

I mean is the fragrance and it’s impact the same?

I'm a teen girl with mostly dry skin and for 8 months, I've been using their $30 Clear Start Breakout Clearing Kit, which includes a cleanser, a booster, and a cooling gel moisturizer, and this kit has rlly helped clear my skin. The cleanser and the booster are the parts that mainly helped but in addition to this kit, I also use Hero Mighty Patch pimple patches (and sun screen ofc). This kit is the only kit of theirs that I've tried and I think it's great but I probably won't be buying their other stuff.
