Interesting fact. The white bit of a mini-roundabout is effectively the same as an unbroken white line. How often is that enforced? Oh, and it's not wheels over the line, but anynpartof the vehicle, including mirrors!

I always thought filtering on or over a solid line was ok, filtering at less than 10mph past stationary but not parked traffic.. better stop doing that then 🤣

Hi Thank you for your time and effort. The HWC states you can cross a solid line to pass 'Stationary' vehicles, does that apply apply to ' 'Stationary' queueing vehicles? Obviously if it's safe to do so,. Thank you.

Stationary queuing vehicles at a railway crossing or temporary traffic lights where there is a solid white line. Can I filter to make it to the front? Interesting I’d like some clarification on that.

Thanks for another interesting and informative video. However, could we agree not to keep referring to motorcycle helmets as, "crash helmets"? It contributes to the narrative that motorcycles are dangerous, rather than vulnerable. Unless, of course, when you get in your car you fasten your, "crash belt"...

Overtaking within the single carriageway, therefore not crossing the solid line, and assuming there’s a comfortable bike width and wriggle room. A yes or a no?

Great video gents. Wish they would adapt the solid white lines for motorcyclists. Had many discussions with the police and most agree you can overtake WITHIN the solid. However depending on the copper reviewing the footage some would deem as careless riding as you’re the “meat within the sandwich”.

I know of people who will travel to client sites occasionally for work, which wouldn't be covered by their SDP insurance. Would that be driving without insurance from a criminal perspective, or just a reason for the insurer not to pay out?

Can a motorcycle "straddle" a solid white line eg a pannier or a handlebar? I can see where a car could straddle a white line with a tyre either side of the solid white line, but if I'm filtering (overtaking) a queue of traffic where I have space up against a white line, but my pannier or my handlebar might be over the line, the tyre is not, am I in trouble?

No. Any part of you/your bike being over the line counts as crossing.

It's frustrating but unless that vehicle has broken down and is therefore blocking the traffic, you can't pass it just because it's sat in a queue of traffic, if there are solid white lines there.

Filtering over double whites when the traffic is stationary for miles. What's your thoughts on that?

We'd love to say "yes" if it's clearly safe to do so - but it's a no. The law is the law and you can only overtake a "stationary" vehicle if it is blocking the lane, not because it's stopped waiting in a line of traffic.

Driving/riding with no insurance has got to be one of the most stupid things ever. I'm also aware of some let's say "serious" traffic officers going a step further (wrongly in my opinion) and prosecuting drivers/riders where they may have been using a vehicle for work purposes but only insured for social domestic and pleasure/commuting. That was going too far in my opinion. Re. The other points in this video over the years I've seen plenty of dodgy people doing dodgy stuff on bikes... I mean a pink CB600F Hornet!! 🤔

Continuous line: Pass a stantionary vehicle. I was advised by a vehicle accident prevention group for motorcyclists, that a vehicle stopped in a line of traffic is stantionary and therefore it was legal to cross the solid to filter, however you must be on your side of the line before traffic is moving. Thoughts?
