I have a french press and an aeropress... and am always looking for new more compact GOOD coffee solutions while camping. My aeropress is almost 10years old and has worked well (lots of fines) and I STILL prefer my french press... someday someone will come up with something smaller and better I am sure. Love your channel and your review, thanks for saving me a few bucks!

This review is absolutely on point. The device is a complete waste of money. I am thoroughly disappointed with this thing. The only thing it's good for is making cold-brew...and it's not even very good at that. It makes the weakest cup of coffee imaginable, even if I steep and stir it for much longer than the instructions state.

Hi Matteo. We got ourselves our own Final Press. Have to agree with the weak extraction. But somehow it's really good with tea. We had ourselves an overextraction with tea, so I guess that's a positive. This product is well-intentioned, but just needs improvement as you said. Thanks for posting your video. Really informative! Ciao!

With that large amount of water can not work! Be honest: with that quantity of coffee you obtain only a small italian coffe cup with a traditional coffee machine. Re-do the review with right amount of water
@kerstboodschap2 ай бұрын
Has nothing to do with the quantity of water. You just cannot make coffee that way. Water needs to be pressed through the coffee, you cannot soak coffee, coffee is not tea.

Only used it once so far and I really enjoyed the coffee that I made with it. I used a medium grind suitable for French press. My only gripe is that it takes up so much room inside the cup that once you remove it you need to add a fair bit of water after to actually fill the mug. Looking forward to using it out and about though. Much smaller, quieter and simpler than an aeropress which can make it more handy in some specific situations

I bought one a while back and watched this video after I received my Final Press. I finally used it this morning, and while I was not as thorough in my testing as Matteo, I definitely came to the conclusion that it just didn't make a good cup of coffee. I did find, like many others here, that it did very well with tea! I'll take the silver lining. I do think it's a cool idea, and I'd love to see a version of it work someday.

First time looking at this product. I see that the color of the water didn't change during the 4 minutes brewing. My guess is that not much is happening there. Maybe letting it steep for a minute, then pressing the plunger a few times, swirling and then letting it steep and repeat that a few times would help with the extraction process?
@nmatheis9 ай бұрын
Yes, you'd need to move the hot water through the grounds to properly extract since the surface area for extraction is limited by the chamber. But this also causes a lot of fines to move outside the chamber, so it seems like it needs at least three things to improve: 1. larger chamber, 2. more percolation, and 3. finer filtration. At that point, you may as well just get an aeropress 😂

I wished I had seen your review before buying. I tried it twice. I did the same as you. The normal way they said. Coffee was very weak. So, on the next try I used the fresh grinds from a new k cup, plus like you I used more coffee grinds. I let it sit longer, and pressed the plunger more. It was still weaker than I expected. So, now, I have 2 decisions. Do I keep it for tea, or send it back. I'm sad it didn't work as I expected. My coffee was muddy too. I do agree that the tube should be larger to allow more movement of water flow. Altogether, not good.

It works very well if you deviate from the poorly written instructions. I just got mine and it made a great cup of coffee the first time: Ground my coffee at a setting of 4. Filled the chamber with coffee with only about 1/4 inch of microfilter openings still visible. Poured 8 oz of hot water into my cup. Closed and inserted the press. Stirred a few times and dunked up/down a few times. Let it sit for a minute or two. Repeated swirling/dunking/sitting. Waited another minute or two. Repeated, then plunged the device around 10 times, holding slightly at an angle so liquid would drip out (as the bottom doesn't have microfilter openings). That's already more grounded coffee, more swirling and dunking, more plunging, more minutes than instructed. In truth, if you don't do that, the coffee sucks. If you do it as I did, you eventually won't see the chamber very well when inserted into the coffee, as the coffee is no longer just hot water with a bit of brown. The result is a fine cup of coffee. ... If you want faster but inferior coffee, use a Keurig. This isn't suppose to be a Keurig, but only takes a couple minutes more.

There is a suggestion about blooming the coffee at the bottom of the instructions. You might try that and see if it makes a difference. I bought one from Amazon, says finalPress on the item and packaging. It makes a weak, dirty cup of coffee. I’m not sure what letting my grounds “bloom” is supposed to mean, maybe some more plain instructions would be more useful. I see the guy in the video has had a similar experience to mine, I have tried many different ways but still end up with weak dirty brew. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna give it to my Mother-in-law to use for making tea. I really had high hopes for this little gizmo, believe me. I didn’t want it to fail.

Thanks for your comment. Bloom it means let the coffee saturate with water to replace the CO2 gas that is inside the coffee. That is a technique to increase the extraction. But in this case is useless because of the kind of brewing method we are talking about.

Finalpress works great for me, but the provided instructions and help videos are definitely inferior. I suspect many who hate it either: 1) have a cheap knockoff (Amazon sells both branded Finalpress devices and cheap copycat garbage); 2) have the v1 Kickstarter version; 3) haven't or are unwilling to tweak amounts coffee or brewing time: 4) post to boost a competitor they work for (like AeroPress). I don't pre-wet the grounds (and don't see that info in the instructions), but I do deviate from the instructions for my v2 device: I grind to 4/medium, add more coffee (about 1/4 below the top of the microfilter), swirl/dunk/plunge for about 4 minutes or more until the coffee mostly obscures the Finalpress chamber sitting in it, The result is a fine cup of coffee.
@rynovoski5 ай бұрын
@@ARNJeremy It's at the bottom. I missed it myself. It says "Tips for a very strong cup of coffee: After the first step, let the grounds bloom in the filter before proceeding to the next steps. Also consider choosing a dark roast with finer grounds." That said, it doesn't make a ton of difference.

That's a very narrow-minded view. I've acquired a lot of great things from Kickstarter/Indiegogo. You just have to ask yourself whether or not a product "scratches a niche itch" and you have to either have a background that allows you do evaluate the product on scientific merits or the product has tobe extremely thorough about what they're doing, why it is special, and how you use it - ideally with thorough as-close-to-uncut as possible demonstrations.
