I am 44. The reason gen x is seen this way is because of the sharp contrast of the newbies. They are everything we arent. Or werent. Were'nt. Whatever.

Because they where (By majority) brought into the world by Boomers. The Greatest Generation gave birth to the worst Generation that gave birth to a Generation that words can't even begin to describe!!!

Karen, if my sister and I were born in the 1970s and we are both in our 40s and are 14 months apart, are we considered in the same generation known as the Generation X? What years are within the Generation X? Please help me and give me some advice!

The dates for Gen X are 1965-1979 so you both are smack in the middle of the most independent, self-sufficient, generation. You are the parents of the newest generation Gen Z.

Its true shat she says. I was a part of the original pirates of music. I hrl that ghetto blaster up to TV and recorded theme songs. I recorded music from radio. Yelling for DJ to stop talking!! Recorded cassette tapes and handed them to friends like greeting cards. It was the way. We had time to kill as patents weren't around. I didn't know many who took vacation. They just went to college right after high school or straight to work. I started work at 12 babysitting. Got first real job at 14 and was out on own by 16. Not average story but it was real for me. But all people I knew in .y generation were out working And didn't have time to vacation til after thy got a job waiting for paid two week vacation after a couple of years maaaaybe. But generation X was special as we saw many changes and were first to see real serious modern technology rise. From Atari to Xbox, from box phone with long cord and home phone service to beepers, brick car phones, cells to androids, and the change in computers, no more floppy disks, lol. Cassette to cd. Vhs to dvd to blue ray. Everything has changed. Some things stay the same. People.

As a GenXer, I find I get a long much better with GenZ people usually than Millennials. The GenZ sense of humor and jadedness is more like us, GenX. I kinda love some of the changes that GenZ is bringing into the workplace.

Majority of first wave Gen Zers have been brought into the world by Gen Xers so they're certainly far more grounded. The final wave of Zers are being born to Millenials so theirs a huge personality difference in Gen Zers.

When the disc jockey would talk over the first couple notes of the song. DUDE! You just ruined it for me. Now, it's another 3 hours that I have to wait to record the song for my mixed tape.

I worked the day I graduated high school. I had to scramble to get ready for my Commencement ceremony and was very worried I was going to be late (I wasn't). I also had to pay for and plan my own graduation party because my boomer parents were "punishing" me for missing a curfew or something. A 2 week vacation would have been nice. I laugh a hearty belly laugh at those who want a "gap year."

Tell me about it! No graduation party for me because my parents were mad about me not doing the dishes or something (while going to high school full-time AND holding down TWO part-time jobs). My graduation present was getting kicked out of the house 3 days after graduation. No vacation. No college. Just scrambling for a place to live & a way to support myself. When I tell Millennials and Gen Z people this, they absolutely just cannot grasp or believe that any parents would ever do this but it was super common and happened to many other 18 year old GenX.
