I finally got to go try this this and I think it is going to help me! Definitely struggled at first but I believe my timing was really off. I’m going to keep practicing this because the hits I made that felt good did seem to have a much straighter flight than normal... Thank you for this advice!

Thanks Matt for another great piece of advice. In 45 years of trying to play the game I have never heard that piece of advice from any other Pro. Am I being cynical in thinking the reason could be that they simply want their customers to continualy go back for the same lesson time and time again. Your integrity does you proud. Best coach on You Tube. Stay safe my friend.

This is the best explanation of how to fix over the top I’ve ever seen. I’ve noticed that pro golfers like Tiger seem to drop their hands in the slot at the top of the backswing but I never realized it was because of the left knee bend. I’ll be working on this today. 👍
@jelleindeherberge2 жыл бұрын
i realise this video is prety old by now but i would still like to take a second and say thank you for this one. Seen a lot of video's and even read some books and all are saying the downswing starts in the hips. This had me so focused on starting with hip rotation and i never realised that this was creating my slice with my driver. Going to work on this this weekend. many thanks

So I went to the range today and did the left knee thing and it works!!! This was the missing puzzle piece to my swing. My original swing issue was that I turned too early and wasn’t slicing but would fade. when I recorded myself I noticed I started to turn too soon and look exactly like your demonstration in this vid. Like I said before, you’re the first golf pro to point out the left knee. Everyone kept say to move hips laterally which I tried but didn’t work. When you explained the knee a light built just went on. Thank you so much. Now my swing looks pretty legit. Not turning too early. Start with leading knee and my arm drops in the slot and let it rip and the ball blasts off with no fade or slice. I’m excited to get back on the course soon. Thank you so much for this great demonstration and info! I’ll be watching your vids.

This totally works and the clearest explanation I have heard. My bad driver swing (huge pull to the left) is the bit at 4:40 in. I watched this one day, took it to the course the next day - no driving range so no practice with a ball - a few practice swings on the first tee, slowed right down because I didn't know what was going to happen. Played 9 holes, 7 with driver - hit every fairway, some dead straight, a couple with a residual fade - 3 were as long as I have ever hit them, with probably 10 mph slower than normal. Off 23 - this I am sure will change my game

I feel better after watching your assessment of the slice drive Matt. Was out Monday on an early morning round and was slicing so badly that I ended up leaving my driver in the bag after the 4th hole and about 6 balls into the woods off the previous tees. OK. I'm fixing this today at the range. I was using the "wait" method last year and it worked pretty well in...... NOVEMBER! just as the courses were closing in the NE. Trouble is, I haven't been able to find that 1/4 of a second of patience that I need in my swing THIS year. I was mostly low 80's and occasionally high 70's last year from late July on. This year I am high 80's with an occasional 82 or 83. and its all from the erratic driver: slices and pulls. I have high hopes for this move. I love this channel. Thanks for the tip.

I seldom hit a slice, but noticed that I will "pull hook" my driver on occasion. I attribute this to the "over the top" move you just showed and the fact that my clubface is square or slightly closed when I hit the ball. I believe your video has given me the cure for this occasional issue! Thanks for another great video!!

I discovered this move through trial and error trying to fix my slice off the tee with woods/driver. Glad I watched this video for confirmation. I've had a terrible time trying to figure out a consistent fix for my slice and I'm going to try implementing this move more. 2021 was my first season playing as an adult after not playing the game since I was a kid. Once I got some reps on the range, I got very consistent with my irons and have a ton of confidence in my mid/approach skills but slicing off the tee has a huge snowball effect on the rest of my game. That first shot off the tee being consistently bad really sabotages everything else.

Thank you so much for the video. I've used this advice for 5 rounds now. I went from a wicked slice, hitting on the adjacent fairway to having 300 plus. I still occasionally have a rare left shank but its still golf. Also since I've used this advice I have drove 2 green that were 350 yards away. They played more like 275 if you cut the trees. Thank you so much.

Your tips are amazing. I didn’t go to range but played 27 holes yesterday and with only the one little knee movement got me to one hard left and the rest small fade. Only lost the one left pull ball. The rest was pretty much down the middle or at least playable shots. I never would have thought of the knee movement. It feels like it just automatically puts me on a better swing plan with only the one thought

Love the video - when you mentioned waiting on your swing - i can really related to that, and something i havent heard any other golfer say when it comes to the "over the top move"... I am a competitive international class tenpin bowler for scotland - we are constantly telling people to wait on there swing, and take all the muscle out - same thing applies, however in bowling we would describe the swing as more of a pendulum motion, golf is somewhat the same, however the motion is just on another axis. I have been playing golf for 18 months or so, and i have a huge problem with slicing - i found that slowing everything down, starting from the takeaway really allowed me to sync everything up much better and even though i still fade the ball, its now much more controllable and consistent... obviously slowing everything does wont be the answer for everyone, but its kind of on the same lines as you mentioned. If you wait on the swing more, not only should you feel when things go off easier you will also be able to sync everything up much easier !!! Keep up the great videos
@dezinetech10004 жыл бұрын
Your probably an outside/in swing which is a slicer swing as mention in this vid. You don’t know until you see yourself on video. You just need to play more. I know you just started to play. I would recommend taking a few lesson to get the fundamentals down then work from there. At least start with good habits and with time you can increase your speed with good fundamentals and habits.
