Surfr are the best...they were super responsive to me as well...and I count nothing in the industry, but they have been super kind and always replied to any doubt I had. I have been using the app since the launch and they have improved it so much in such a short period of time, that I can only praise them for the great job and for providing us with such a fun and powerful tool to improve and play

Thanks guys for putting your time on this. The spoiler alerts were good news🎉 Also as a competition organizer there were some really good insights regarding of measuring the jumps. Keep up the stoke guys 🤙

Awesome podcast, I always thought the app used some kind of pressure sensor to measure height, never thought it was all gyrometers and accelerometer dark magic! I'm personally a huge fan of this app keep it up 🤘

FEATURE: head2head - select your opponent and watch a variety of dataMatches (death match on historical) - for the given time slice (day, month, ytd, inception to date) who has the most time on water , most miles covered, most efficiently (miles / time), not to mention most days where both players had sessions and one had the highest on the day (aka The Winningest rider), and the Heightest rider (the overall highest of the match up)… just to name a few

Been using Surfr for quite a while now in wetsuit mode, flawless. Was a huge fan of Woo, the Woosting really got the fun out overestimating jumps with 20% easily. Good this podcast was brought out(bit long though) after the countless attempts of the Woocast365 talking down Surfr during the time of the "Woo Way" release. Good to see btw that on a regular day on our local spot in NL the amount of Surfr users is triple the size of Woo users, indicating a clear shift 👍🏼

I also thought Woo measured higher, but when I did a little test last month I was surprised to see Surfr consistently measuring higher than Woo. I tested with: 1. Surfr on Google Pixel 8 Pro in a chest pouch and used audio to hear results live 2. Surfr on Apple Watch SE (2?) 3. Woo 4.0 on the board and connected to a Garmin to see results live Unfortunately the wind was light so mostly did straight jumps ranging from 5 to 8 meters and a couple ones close to 10. The two Surfers were impressively consistent being within 0.2 meters of each other on every jump except like 2 out of maybe 30. But Woo measured significantly lower on every jump except maybe 3-4 . I can't remember the exact numbers but I'd say ranging from 0.4 to 1.2 meters with an average of 60cm lower. Woo did howdy give the highest score of the day with 10.3m versus Surfrs 9.1m. Would love to test again in conditions where I can go twice as high and see if the tendency changes. Anyone else done some comparisons?

Also I can't see how surfer would ever be a golden standard due to the differences in hardware amongst watches and cell phones. At least woo has a standard benchmark hardware set.

I prefer the woo (4.0) because surfr (my Apple Watch Ultra) misses many of my smaller jumps, or it calculates something completely incorrect (both too low and too high). Not very beginner friendly, but a thumb of rule: if you pay less you can expect less. This was an interesting video to watch Mike!
@Don-uz9om3 күн бұрын
I still prefer a woo but I do appreciate what you're doing in the community. Cell phones are getting really expensive these days and to sacrifice one on my board I'm not prepared to do that. The woo 4.0 has been flawless and I've been using it for a long time now. I think the big improvement was the inductive charging for woo eliminated contamination issues and corrosion
@MHLmerrel3 күн бұрын
Have you ever applied side shot line length verification on Woo’s content like done in the Surfr paper? It's so interesting that every jump with a Woost is overestimated with at least 20%, even on the Woo 4.0.

You can ajust the measuring hight in your surfr app so that should not be the problem. Everything lower than one meter is not u jump but a hop..... 🙂
@thesurfrapp2 күн бұрын
Hi Jose, You can set the minimum jump height to one meter on your AW to get more jumps recorded. Also, bear in mind, Surfr does not register waves as jumps.

I use now 1 year woo and surfr app on my phone(S10). I use to progress getting better and have a better feeling to train safe loops for the height which i can jump with the current conditions 😅 My experience: 2023 - 2024 Woo misses no jumps Surfr app misses some 1, 2 per session Woo meassure 1meter maybe more from 1-6meters 7-10 both nearer together 2024 - now No jumps missing anymore Smaller jumps on sufrapp get closer to woo and woo correct this smaller jumps also a little bit Overall they come closer together now nice indacation of height but nothing you can count on What sucks in woo is: They fucked up the community with the woo 3 and corroding contacts. My was also broken i repair it for 10 bugs 1x battery 1x inductiv charger so i have a woo 3.1v now... but what saw inside the woo it was made to break because suspension contacts which 100 garante that they will break if the corrode in salty water...and then oh we have a new woo 4.0 which cost 100 bugs more...thats a punch in the face of the community.

I don’t know if it’s my device but Surfr doesn’t do well with kiteloops for me. Either misses the jump if I kiteloop or tells me a non sense height. Sometimes I get random non sense numbers like 2-3m after a jump with kiteloop. I think this is super common around 7m jumps.
@MHLmerrel3 күн бұрын
What are you running? I'm using wetsuit mode and don't have this issue tbh. Up to 11m kiteloops it never missed a jump, didn't loop higher yet though 😂

Loving the enthusiasm, however I don't see myself wearing a rather clunky and fragile phone on the water really. What if you crash onto it whilst having it on your body? On the board, I don't see those vibrations and landing impacts being good for it either.

Have both woo and Surfr - they never measure same height 😂🤷♀️. Witch is most accurate? Nb - Woo with Garmin watch is much superior to Surfr. NB - its possible to stand on the beach and accelerate the board to jumphight 4,5m by hand😂

Hey what is the team doing wrt moderation to the leaderboards. For example the max speeds are a joke. We know the speed record is 57.97knots (107kph), yet the leaderboard shows people with 300 and 600kph and 100’s of people over 100kph, and if you look at their session it’s followed by a 4m jump or 0min session and things that just don’t add up. I use it for my own personal tracking. But the leaderboards should be reasonable accurate and moderated else the fun of them is nonsense. On a separate note I had my best session, jumped higher and farther than I’ve ever gone and didn’t get any higher/airtime/distance on the surfer app (edit: Apple Watch series 9 watch only mode)
@thesurfrapp2 күн бұрын
Valid points! Our moderation focus has been mainly focusing on jumps. But we will clean up the speed leaderboards soon. In the podcast we also talk about Verified jumps ✓ that will be introduced in the nearby future. TBC
