This has finally solved why I gained 12kg of fat over 6 months I was consuming a cheap protien powder in my yogurt, I finally stopped doing this as a last resort to lose weight and I was shocked when my weight started dropping every week, I'm now on two whole food meals per day with intermittent fasting, I lost 15kg and in my best shape ever, very informative content

I'm glad that you mentioned mixing protein powders with other items. Most nutritionists ignore the obvious solution to some of these problems. I have no trouble digesting soy milk, whey protein isolate, creatine added to my steel cut oats cooked with hemp seeds and chia seeds, and a little maple syrup for breakfast. There is plenty of protein, which digests quite slowly, and I feel full for four to six hours. Then I eat a second meal from vegetable sources since i'm a vegetarian if I'm hungry. 😊

I have tested repeatedly your ultra-low protein diet, and I become weak and sick on it. I will believe you if you can debate Dr. Gabrielle Lyon in studio on your points today in this video, or if you can walk on a beach in South Florida in your Speedo with Dr. Mercola in a walk and talk session... or if you can do a talk session in the gym with Dave Asprey, and convince us why you are right and they are wrong. Hundreds of studies debunk what you say in these ultra-low protein diet sermons, to the detriment of my health and many others...

The truth is in the middle. I know people who are trying to lose weight and they can't do it as they are misled by athletes to exercise more and consume a lot of protein. I don't think lack of muscle is the problem of today's world, it's obesity. So ditch the touted daily protein requirements as they are nonsense - you can't even meet them even if you do time-restricted feeding as skipping one meal would mean you'll only need to consume chicken steaks after that... Do consume protein though, just don't overthink it - an ultra-low protein diet also doesn't sound right... And the doctor is forgetting that it takes more energy to turn protein to fat, compared to carbs.

Yeah as someone who lifts weights and played sports in my youth, I can tell when I consume more protein. If I am in a protein surplus I feel much stronger on my lifts. This is something you start to notice from decades of lifting. It's anecdotal, but so what? I can tell the protein is doing something.

100%. This man has no idea, not because he is not smart but because the science doesn't know how protein affects longevity in humans! He is just guessing like the rest. We are not inbred mice! The study was on inbred mice...the mice live about 2 years and crave for carbs instead of protein, has much faster metabolism and different biological mechanisms. We as humans live 90 and have to worry of frailty and sarcopenia. We all know old people that fall, fracture a hip and die within 1 year. Protein is king!!! I'm writing it while sipping my protein shake.

Very useful information about proteins ‼️
@Project_2501
@Project_2501 2 ай бұрын
Consider this: The industry recommends a daily dose of 1.5g to 2g of protein per pound of body weight for those who want to build muscle. So when you weigh 162lbs (85gk, which is an average weight for grown man) and use the minumum recommendation of 1.5g per lbs, this adds up to 240g of DAILY protein intake (keep that in mind, I'll come back to this very important factor in a sec). Then they recommend you to eat at a caloric deficite (which makes sense if you want to lose fat while still gaining muscle). So you need to construct your daily diet around this and mostly it will come down to one large meal with 50g of natural protein (not powder but lean real meat), a minimum recommended amount of carbohydrates and fibers (alternatively, the sum of which you can also split to three smaller meals a day if you prefer that). But 100g of lean chicken breast only contain around 20-30g of actual protein, so you need to eat at least 150g of actual meat to hit 50g. The remaining 200g of the original recommendation of 240g per day, then need to be covered with the least amount of extra calories, and the best, cheapest and practically only way to hit these values but not overeating on excess calories is protein powder. Now getting back to the original calculation, trying to consume 200g of extra protein, requires you to take in 250g of actual powder because protein powder only consists between 70-80% of actual protein on average. The largest buckets typically come in 600g. That means you empty a bucket in only 2,5 DAYS! Meaning you burn through ELEVEN 600g buckets only one month and A HUNDRED AND THIRTYFOUR buckets a year, each costing you around $30! Meaning $340 a month and $4.030 a year. We both know, neither you nor me have the money to justify such expenses with by any means or reason. And this amount of money is exactly why you should not trust the industry recommendations! I have trained both without extra protein (only daily consuming 50g of protein from lean meat - which is totally sufficient) and with excessive recommended amounts of protein (200g daily) for months on end and I am CONVINCED, IT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING! Unless you already trained for the last 4 years, built substantial amounts of muscle naturally and ultimately hit a natural platoe at which your body just can't build any more muscle. This is the point where anybody SHOULD just continue maintainence training to keep the acquired muscle mass and stay active and leave it at that. Unless you want to become an "artificially enhanced" 350lbs muscle monster. Only then, extra protein will actually help you gain abnormal amounts of muscle beyond a natural physique. But you don't need that! It is not healthy!

@Project_2501 Sorry not 1.5 to 2 gram of protein per pound of lean bodyweight : You mean 1.2 to 2 grams protein per (KG) of lean bodyweight. So math is for 162lb person ÷ 2.2kilo = 74kg bodyweight × 2.2 grams protein = approx 162 grams of protein 💪. 4 calories per gram of protein of 162grams = 648 protein calories per day.

I love your content and am sure there’s evidence to back it but I also think there’s plenty of evidence to back taking much more protein in. I’ve been taking a whey protein shake per day (about 23 grams), weight training several times a week with heavier weight, slow eccentrics, and I’m in the best shape I’ve been in. I definitely am consuming way more protein than 60 grams. Not to say that can’t work but it seems very low to me.

With food, protein, nutrition in general, is very simple, it's pure math, it's logic. If you work very, very hard, physical work, in very hard conditions, you will need a lot of proteins, a lot of food in general, good food, also if you do profesional sport, if you do high intense physical effort, you will need high amount of proteins, vitamins, food in general, and water of course. Otherwise you lose weight, you get sick, and eventually you die. But if you stay on a chair all day, and you move only when you go to toilet, then you DON"T NEED a high amount of proteins and water.

If you eat 8/16 and use up your glucose and glycogen stores by morning, your liver will make glucose from protein...... It is a good idea to keep your protein stores (and yes your cells store protein) so that you are not breaking down muscle tissue to get that protein. I don't know how much protein intake that takes, because I don't know exactly when a fasting person runs out of glycogen. But, I would rather to have excess protein than catabolizing my muscles.
@ssv8364

From an evolution standpoint why would the body catabolize muscles and not stored fat? It's like throwing your chair in the stove instead of the wood you've prepared for that.

There seems to be a problem here. Presuming you have a 2000 calorie diet, and you consume say 30 grams of protein a day, that is only 120 calories from protein. We already know Dr. Gundry is not a fan of high carb. Say you eat 100 grams of carbs a day. That is another 400 calories. So 2000 - 520 = 1480. Which could then only come from fat. Am I missing something here?

Without the knowledge in diet and nutrition as you doc but only with my curiosity and my tiny bit of knowledge of Nature, which is, again, also very little 😊(Im SORRY for those you get triggered by that) I couldnt moderate the excitement your video gave me and my pairs. Therefore, I appreciate it very very much! Also, if theres a chance of you reading these comment, that would be enough for me to try and ask you something. Feel free to ignore it. The topic of reflection was about biology, human relationship and also anthropology in a way but mostly and specially about Mother Nature or planet Earth and our rather particular relationship with her. Im sorry again for those who get triggered. Anyways, IF we, for a momment, consider her and percieve her as a highly inteligent living thing, with high intuition, perception, adaptability, and all of the qualities human beigns have, even humour (not worthy of the trash at all like some of the newer ingentions in regards of proteín) Why would you thing she didnt made us capable of storaging proteín if there was proteín already on her "belly", in form of greens, seeds and more so, by the time we happen to develop as humans? In addition, if we consider diet as a cultural and social behaviour with a HUGE correlation to both the environment we are part of, that, including the polítical and económical influences it has on, and how diversity it can be, why in your opinion is it that we lost it meaning? Lastly, what do I eat now?! Please Answer with humour if u want. Saludos doctor!

I still don't understand what is the ideal food pyramid. Too much proteins is not needed, ok. Too much polysacharides = converts to fat, also bad. Fat = fat, bad. What to eat? What's the logic behind Gundry's diet, where a lot of fats is the base of the pyramid?

As much as I like vegetarian diet I insist on necessity to consume excessive amount of animal protein if you want to build muscless! Plant based protein won`t get you there - period! Not a chance! Haven`t met a single guy, who would get it done with a plant based diet! It`s simply not possible, because our body is not able to absorb enough protein from plants. On the other hand, we don`t need to have big muscless! We can be healthy and feel great on a plant based diet.

Hi Dr. Gundry. I’ve been settling into your program for about 2 months and I feel better and better. Just read Gut Check as well. I have a question. I started going to the gym around 6am and break my fast at noon. I’ve tried BCAA and protein powder but both seem to interfere with the level of wellbeing. What would you suggest as a fuel source?
@Alucard_FahrenheitTepes
@Alucard_FahrenheitTepes 8 ай бұрын
First of all your BCAA breaks a fast lol train without food only electrolytes eventually you get into ketosis what I used to do was take supplements and caffeine and creatine powder b4 workout to train then 10 hours later is eat large healthy meal. We call training with BCAA calorie deficit fasting.

OK, so did I understand that right... there's not benefit to using protein powder because it gets absorbed too fast and will turn into sugar or fat?! So, I shouldn't add it to my healthy smoothies?! I was just about to look into buying a collagen protein powder, 🤔 And if I'm not getting much protein it's ok? I usually have eggs for breakfast, lean meat/chicken for lunch and dinner surrounded by veggies or if I'm not too hungry I make a smoothie as a meal replacement/snack. Yes I'm trying to lose weight and be healthier, as so many of us are.

Amazing misinformation!Obviously Dr.Guntry ignores basic physiology.Proteins are not absorbed as such,but as the constituents aminoacids,which in the tissues (mainly the liver) recombine to form theproteins of the organism.The amounts he refers to,are the minimum amount to avoid severe starvation.Dr.Nikolas Papadakis,professor of neurosurgery.
