Honestly, as a former makeup artist, I get so frustrated trying to explain to my girlfriends that IRL skin CANNOT look instagram perfect. I have had women tell me I’m just watching the “wrong videos”. Regular working class women like me, who truly believe pores can just be erased with foundation! What a ridiculous standard! The reality is, IMHO, real skin is more beautiful anyway. I think the fine lines add character and depth, to women who are working every day as moms, friends, wives, daughters. The trials of life show on our faces and thats wonderful! We should not hide from this fact! Even knowing the poreless look is a big lie, I fall into the trap of comparison. We have to hold each other by continuing to acknowledge this. ❤️

I went to high school in the 2010s and remember telling my boyfriend at the time how I wanted to get all these surgeries and procedures to “fix” and “change” me. In 2018, I had lip filler and hated it. Some of the things I once hated about myself are now features my baby has, and I love them on him. 👶🏻💙 Maybe being a mama has changed all that. Additionally, I had great support in my boyfriend (now husband) who would not only give me compliments, but made me believe in myself more, and helped me to become a better version of myself. 👨👩👦 P.s. If you haven’t heard this today, from a mama to you: 💞 1. “You’re like, really pretty.” 2. “You is kind, you is smart, you is important.” 3. “You’re doing amazing, sweetie!” 4. Women actually impose this on women. Women set what's important. Men actually don't care about the hierarchy that women set for themselves. Where as women care a lot about what men set for other men. I.e. athletic, strong, rich men. Women care about makeup, contouring, fashion. But men do not. Men have very low standards when it comes to women. Trust me.... ANY 'mid' can sleep with a hot guy. Any guy WOULD sleep with an obese and/or below average woman...lol. Women have extremely high standards towards themselves AND towards the men they choose to sleep with or date.

As someone who has what's considered great skin with only a bit of dryness during winter, I can tell you that genetics are responsible for 99% of the way your skin looks like. Don't waste money on expensive products, instead save to go to a dermatologist who can actually help you with invasive treatments. Every time ppl ask what I use to have such great skin I say "nothing" , I just wash w water & use moisturiser. Girls w clean skin usually will tell u to buy this or that to have great skin like them, truth is, is only genetics, I forget to even put on moisturiser most days as a busy mom of 2 n my skin is still clean. So pls don't believe any ad.

Why compare? I don't understand. Every single human being looks sooo different that is the beauty of being human. No two are the same. Of course you're going to find people that are beautiful, but why feel intimidated ? why compare ? Why be jealous ? I'll never understand this. Maybe it's because I absolutely love who I am and have always been very confident, but even if I wasn't who I am I feel like I would never compare myself to anyone. Never once have I thought oh I'm going to compare myself to this person or that person. I'm happy for everyone around me. I'm just obsessed with who I am and I feel like women need to realize that they need to love themselves as well
@alexforman392 жыл бұрын
@@KAYLAKARBAN it’s not something women consciously do, I don’t think ‘oh, today I’m going to compare myself to this person’. That great for you then, and to be honest, the fact you can’t understand it obviously shows how confident you are and that’s great. But I think a lot of people, for a number of reasons don’t feel the same way you do, and as a result unconsciously compare because they probably always have or have been compared to someone by someone else. If you find it fascinating or want to learn more about it, it isn’t rare for people to feel like this.. research it and you’ll see. As I say, great for you to feel that way but your comment in itself compares yourself to people like myself who don’t feel as confident as you, so comparisons happen more often than you’re aware and you clearly compare yourself too but obviously in a more favourable way.

This comment is quite disturbing. I have zero skin texture I have never used makeup to cover my face and I am absolutely in love with the face I was born with and always exude confidence because confidence is what I feel 100%. How dare you say that I have no story to tell. I have the best story to tell. Learn to be happy for everyone around you learn to love yourself and then the world will be a better place. I'm always happy and that is because I love myself I love everyone around me and every day is a great day because I feel great in my heart and in my soul and who I am. Every single human being is different no two are the same that is the beauty of humanity. So don't ever go around saying that no skin texture means that you don't have a story to tell because everyone has a story to tell and everyone is beautiful if they love everyone around them and themselves.

Lol its very funny but why on earth influencers think that we are into believing that they're some sort of special people walking on the earth with not even a single pore on their skin or bumps or texture. Recently I've started loving my textured face more than an airbrushed one. Idk but pores on skin looks so much better and human

Want to say a big thank you! Wish you were around when I was growing up. I felt any skin flaw counted me out of anything on camera! The 'cover girls' were all flawless don't you know. I had rosacea forever and some permanent texture from it that made me wonder why people said I was very good looking?! These women have expensive facials etc. the best products and still have texture!! I am just starting to experiment with make up base and sooo long going bare and having been criticized for allowing my Rosacea to show. I got dr. help but many made me worse over the years. As we get older harder to control the pores however. I would suggest you 'keep going' on these starts. What about Katy Perry, or seems like Angelina Jolie is pretty flawless, Resse Witherspoon too?!

I struggled so much growing up during my 20s which are nearly over, and only now at the age of 29 I got rid completely of this idea of being perfect. I was IG addicted and I wanted to achieve the perfect picture, the perfect pose and perfect skin. I have deleted all my social media and I feel better than ever. Not only I feel like a real girl living in a real world, but i also don’t feel the need anymore to wear make up. Actually, I rarely do and I got used again to my natural normal face which has been breathing. I don’t even use that much skin care anymore. I simply rinse my face with water sometimes a month goes by and I don’t put a single thing on my face besides water . And my skin improved so much. Anyways… I do believe social media was a ramp up to this perception we all have about beauty standards… and it is really dangerous as cosmetic and surgical procedures have escalated soooo much during the past years.

I absolutely love these videos. As someone that used to struggle so much with my skin, it's so refreshing to see that you're having these kinds of conversations. For me, my struggles were compounded by excoriation (skin-picking) disorder, which has left my skin far from flawless, but that's okay! I think your video will help more people see that skin doesn't exist as a smooth, porcelain surface.

Omg this video. I feel like people forget skin has texture it is how skin is, everyone has pores, everyone has bumps and it's normal but obviously since celebrities have seemingly clear and perfect and non textured skin thanks to photoshop and retouching, we beat ourselves up on this. It really isn't something to be ashamed of or be embarrassed about. It's something so normal and we need to learn to embrace it. Thank you so much for this video, I feel like it's something a lot of people need to learn about

Thank you so much Stephanie. I've struggled with hormonal acne since I was 12 years old (30 now), and now that my acne is finally under control, I have scarring and wrinkles to contend with. I can totally relate to looking at a selfie I've taken and not liking the skin texture I see. I've also seriously shied away from wearing makeup because I always find it highlights my skin texture. The only way to have no pores is to project a false image of myself digitally. Real life = texture. Thank you for driving this point home!

I been watching you a few years and I rarely ever comment but I LOVE how vocal and aware you are about the issues with “perfection” in social media. I’m a 42 yr old beauty content creator and makeup artist over 20 yrs. After 3 yrs on KZbin I still film on my IPhone 📲 so I don’t have any type of filters (I film lots of Live content). BUT Sometimes I feel pressured to smooth some of my lines on my IG posts because my regular posts seem to barely get any views. The fact that I’m not 20-28yrs old I feel behind in the game, but I do what I love and beauty & laughter is my passion so I stick to it no matter how I look ! 🥰 Love your content always and you’re definitely appreciated for keepin it real baby girl 😎

I have always been self conscious of my skin texture due to acne, I use to tan inside and in beds ALOT causing melasma on my forehead, and have combination skin which is a pain to treat. I don't use any coverage makeup due to fear of irritation because of my skin issues. It is nice to see that skin texture is something woman with access to all the beauty products/treatments in the world are also unable to achieve what I find myself striving for. In my mid 30's I try to be mature to not let it get me down. I'm learning for my skin less is more and as Stephanie says every woman has skin texture! Nice job finding great comparisons and showing us your own texture which looks amazing in all lighting!👍❤

I watched your video on your diet change 9 months ago and I wanted to applaud you for coming forward but to know that you have to do whats best for your body.
