116 degrees today, and it's going to get a lot hotter before the summer ends. When the monsoon starts, and the humidity gets up to 40%+, it's like living in a hot wet sock. That said, it's 3-4 months of tough weather, then it's absolutely better than almost anywhere. Sunblock is your buddy, as well as hats, and lots of water (everywhere you go). This is the Sonoran Desert, you have to keep that in mind.

There are 2 summers in Phoenix. Pre 4th of July and post 4th of July. Pre 4th has low humidity and not an issue. Evenings cool down into the 80’s. Post 4th when the humidity hits, temps barely drop at night. It can still be 100 at midnight. But, it only lasts 2-3 months. Still better than shoveling snow.

My wife an I currently reside in Illinois and have lived here all our life. We see all four seasons and in my opinion really have 2-3 perfect months and that's spring and autum. Over the past several years weve been home shopping in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona and Nevada. We arrived in Scottsadale during monsoon season around a few years ago and it was 116F. Illinois can see near 100F in the summer but what's worse is the added humidty at that temp we get. Like others I've been told Arizona is not humid so 100F feels cooler but I can now say 116F feels miserable humid or not. It was so hot we were walking the dogs to the car from the hotel and while my wife was rearanging the car one dog began lifting it's paw and yipping. I put my hand to the concerte and it felt like a skillet.

@livinginphoenixazinfo
@livinginphoenixazinfo Жыл бұрын
it's hard to say, there are a lot of variables. Most homes of that size should be $300-400 in summer months. There are different types of homes here, older homes have concrete block walls, most homes since the 90s are wood framed with stucco. Windows & insulation are key components in keeping a home cool & costs down, so the older they get the more inefficient a home gets. The electric company offers an 'equalizer payment' option where they take the average of the past year and you pay that monthly, which spreads out the cost and avoids any crazy high bills.

As recently as the 1970s, Phoenix was no less comfortable in summer than most any U.S. city. My hometown of Louisville was a sweatbox in summer, due to the Ohio River Valley humidity and car emissions being trapped in by nearby hills. It was usually in the 90s here, and occasionally over 100. But 92 in a high humidity place was worse than 102 in Phoenix. All that changed because of two things: 1) Phoenix was overbuilt, quadrupling in population since 1970. That dust and humidity of July and August (largely a consequence of constant construction) has been toxic to many people. 2) Climate change makes Louisville no longer a place with such distinct seasons. The summer humidity is irregular and overall much lower, and summer temperatures are not as consistently high. We've sometimes had furnaces on in July here, something unimaginable 25 years ago.

Yeah you did this before the summer of 2023!! The month of July in Phoenix in 2023 averaged 103.7 degrees for the entire month!!! It didn't get below 90 degrees for 3-1/2 weeks and it was above 110 everyday for a month straight and above 115 for 15 of those days. On top of that I'm in my sixties and I have to work outside & by the end of July I was exhausted!! I've watched those temperatures back East when it's miserably warm and humid but it still cools off to the 70s at night! Imagine walking out your house at 4 a.m. and it's still 98 degrees and it hits you in the face like an oven in the dark!! My point is is I've been to Florida in July and August and 95° and humid isn't that bad as long as you don't have to work in it. If you do however that humid weather is miserable but this summer we had hundreds of people in the emergency room with second and even some third-degree burns on their feet because they decided to walk across the street barefoot!! In Phoenix in summer you can't touch anything made out of metal that's been sitting in the sun or you'll be taking care of another burn!!

Phoenix is in a valley and with all the buildings and the roadways they've built in the last 30 years it's created a heat Island and it doesn't cool off at night anymore like it did back in the 1960s and 70s when it used to cool off to the mid-seventies. My experience for the last 36 years is the first weeks of June are the 117°F plus. When I moved to Phoenix in 1986 100°F days rarely happened after my birthday of October 6. Due to climate change Halloween now gets up to 100°F commonly. However the really good Monsoon storms happen less frequently too.

A pool in the summer is great. Its funny though, there is a cycle of pool ownership people go through here. When they first move here, 'OMG I HAVE TO HAVE A POOL!' and then many people realize they only use that pool for a few months and the rest of the year it is just there, and they have to maintain it even though they are not using. Many people who have lived here for a longer time end up with an attitude of 'no pool, never again!'

Yeah, I have to disagree here. I visit my family there often. The heat is absoluteley unbearable. Everything needs to be done by 9:00 am for at least 3 months of the year with $600 electric bills. With the heat combined and scorpion problem, i am baffled as to why anyone would want to live there.

The best advice to a new commer is get a good insulated large water bottle n keep ice water with you at all times. Cool yourself from with in by drinking lots of cold water. I have found you can get ice water refilled in your bottle pretty easy. I keep a huge insulated jug in my car n carry a 40oz with me on my person at all times. Cool yourself from within stay shaded with a hat. First summer I thought I was gonna die. I do heat well but this is brutal you can die without water heat. Stay alive n stay hydrated.

In Arizona there are two seasons: Summer, from November to May, and from May through October, hell. It's hot as the surface of the sun, it's dry as a bone, the cartels operate throughout the area, the politicians are crooked, and there are hellaish dust storms. Electricity and water cost a fortune, the heat kills all batteries, and melts things left in cars. Home prices are through the roof and the state is running out of water..... I'd advise staying away.....🤣 PS If you do move to Arizona, at least have the decency to learn Spanish.

Having a pool in your backyard is pointless. Durring the summers the water is like swimming in a hot bowl of soup. It does sort of cool down in the evenings, but I wouldn't exactly call it refreshing. Those days of swimming all summer long are gone, and you'll kick yourself for even wasting the money on a pool that hardly gets any use excpet for during the spring time.
