One thing gotta be said about JWong is how ready he is to share his knowledge of the game... Ready to teach. Nice guy all around.

Love your content J! You've been an OG since the beginning regarding mvc2. Please continue to speak and enlighten these folks on how difficult this game is, especially relative to new gen games... they just don't know! Lol

Maybe you've already talked about it and haven't uploaded it yet, but I'm guessing you watched the Twitch Rivals MvC2 tournament? That was such a blast. Not only was there great gameplay, but Max Dood really got Justin Wong and Yipes to talk about a lot of the history around the competitive side of the game. It really was a great broadcast.

The game has had me investing more time into a classic fighter than I normally would've. I've been spending hours learning movement and some intermediate level combos. I think the sentiment I've seen most however is that most newcomers don't really wanna play the game at the highest level. Most of us wanna play fan favorites. If anything I think it would be cool to see an uptick in things like low tier tournaments or even just those ratio tourneys. The recent twitch rival thing was really fun to watch, but watching the gods of the game gets really stale after. Just my personal take anyway, I'm sure there's also going to be people dedicating themselves to the game at the highest level and either way you slice it that's a win. Love to see this game evolve like Chess where you have a static build that will never change and will stand the test of time.

The "get good" argument only makes sense if the process of getting good is fun to someone. Not everyone wants fighting games to be like a 9-5 job, some people just want to have fun at their own pace. That being said though, local tournaments (at least in my experience) are great for players at all levels. Even people who didn't know how to play the games had fun at the locals because unlike ranked, it's a social gathering with pretty much no stakes at all. Someone recommended locals to me and I'm glad they did because it was some of the most fun I've ever had (despite the fact I always get clapped in bracket lol)

That’s awesome to hear. Locals are so good. The games are great, but if you have a good local, with low levels of drama and lots of friendly people willing to help others, it’s actually the people and the environment that make locals so wonderful. Glad you’ve found a good one. Which local is it, if I may ask, just so others who happen to read this and are close enough might learn a great place to go?

To me Justin Wong is the hero of Marvel vs Capcom 2. He has opened my eyes to what you can do if you take the time to learn the game. After playing Street Fighter IV I can of fell out of MvC in general because I preferred the tighter/more polished gameplay of SF IV over the MvC games (plus I was disappointed with MvC3). Seeing Justin Wong play these past few weeks has been a lot of fun.

The last time I played MVC2 was on PS3 well over a decade ago. I think we only had it for a weekend or so then Sony or Marvel pulled the license. Pretty sure the last game I ever played my friend destroyed me and won the game with that Serve Bot super and that was moment that cemented in my mind that MVC2 is the best fighting game ever conceived.

With as much MVC2 ranked that I play I still have not ran into JWong on PSN 😺
@jnvivian2 ай бұрын
He is now in Thailand for the Thaiger Uppercut tournament, so you would need to be in Asia to run into him in ranked matchmaking mode. Also, with the matchmaking code having been fixed, you will need to hold Master or Grand Master rank to run into him even if he is in your area. You probably will also have to be on Steam or Switch to run into him because taking a PS4 or PS5 from Canada to Thailand is a problem due to their big sizes.

MvC2 is one of my favorite games of all time. On a level beyond anything casual with the boys it's a garbage tier game and is extremely unfun. You play the 3 of the 4 relevant characters or get used to losing/ not playing.

Which is really how gaming is nowadays. You either follow the meta or you get comfortable with performing either sub-optimally compared to everyone else or you lose.
