I don't think I could get 'addicted' to that much work to make a burger. But thanks for your effort and video. The Oklahoma Onion Burger (double meat, double cheese) is still my favorite.

I'm glad you gave this one a try Greg, it's always interesting to see your take on something even if it might not be up your alley. I definitely agree with you about having binders with the meat! Some meats will require it of course but I think we can agree that beef needs to be left to shine on its own. Cheers!

Glad to see you had the same reaction I did. I mixed up a batch of the crack burger meat before camping and we did smash burgers with it that night. Despite being sticky it smashed pretty well, but we found nothing extraordinary about the flavor or them despite all the ingredients. We definitely prefer unadulterated ground beef. Keep up the great work Greg!

Great video, Greg. I made a video of this burger about a year ago, and I totally agree with you. It's good but all burgers are good. I watched several videos before I did mine and saw that they were all falling apart, so when I did mine, I added bread crumbs (meatloaf) lol. Once again, great lookin burger Greg. Have a great week, my friend.

Greg, I'm so glad you said something about the salt content! I was watching you add all that stuff and thinking to myself, good grief that's going to be VERY salty! I agree with you...don't violate the beef! This is like trying to make a burger out of a meatloaf. The burger patties reminded me of deviled ham. Another cardinal sin...yellow cheddar on a burger is terrible! It reminds me of a layer of epoxy after it "melts". Kudos to you for venturing outside of what you know is good and trying something different! I don't think I'd waste my time on this.

What I find helps (I do this for meatloaf), is to mix all of the other ingredients together first, and then add them to the beef. Helps reduce the amount you need to work the meat to get everything incorporated. Great video.😊

Well done for sticking with it - it's almost making a sausage type of patty with seasonings and other additions. That works with pork mince up to a point to make a sausage meat type of mix, yes, but seems such a waste with beef, especially any better grade of beef. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Thanks for sharing the technique of boiling the bacon. Will have to try that. I have added water to bacon in a pan in the past with good results. Boiling for 1.5 hours is something I have never heard of. As for the crack burger, it’s not something I would even bother with, surprised it didn’t fall apart without a binder such as an egg. I would try this in meatloaf form but not as a burger. Love your channels and appreciate the time you put into content, cheers.

Great video, I'm with you, the same taste profile can be made without adding all those ingredients into the pattie. As soon as you have to work wet and dry ingredients into the ground beef you have to work it, ending up with more of a sausage mix where you want that emulsification of fat and meat. You did well with grilling those bad boys!

I agreed with you 100%, just put what you want on the burger, not in it ! I tried doing the cheddar cheese, jalapeños, etc. My best homemade burger was a hand made patty 75-25 mix on a stove top in a Lodge cast iron grill pan covered in Burgundy wine poured over it. That burger had to be between 1/2 to 3/4 pound, hand formed.

Also I remember a video where you recreated a burger from a chef's video (think it was Gordon Ramsay) back in the day and it called for putting stuff in the meat before cooking.. you were critiquing it the same as this video lol. I tried the crack burger and also wasn't impressed with it. Didn't see what all the hype was. Kind of a thought I have about all burger reviews, is leave the bacon off. As you said, the bacon was the star of the show. The bacon disguises the taste of the burger itself. A simple burger and bun, no condiments, focuses on the taste of the burger itself.

Yeah, I thought it was sketchy too to mix in the stuff in the meat. I think Guga made once a video where he put French Soup Salad Dressing on a burger or steak and it enhanced the flavour, but sprinkling it on top - not mixing it. Tried it too and could tell a difference - it was very tasty. The cheese and sour cream sounds very suspicious, I suspect they use cheaper meat and/or more fat to make the patties cheaper and add cheese and sour cream to cut through the fat from the meat? Anyway, at least we know. But damn, the salt in that burger could be used to make a little aquarium salty enough for salt fishes. I mean the mayo has salt, the pickles, bacon, the cheese, buns also have salt naturally. Just want to scream xD

Basic ground beef, tavern-style or smash or however you like to cook yours (I'm a tavern-style thick burger guy myself, smash burgers are too dry for my taste), basic toppings, on a sesame seed bun. Easy, cheap, delicious, and no fancy-pants showing off for Instagram. It ain't rocket science.
