Agreed. See also dodge-chrysler. In reality jeep has been here for a decade. Outside the wrangler no one is buying NEW product to take it off road, and post warranty used sales where people finally feel comfortable hacking up bumpers and installing lifts on grand Cherokees mean nothing to manufacturers. They need the on-road stuff to supplement their wrangler, because that's not enough for the company to survive.

I could tell you where, California. Otherwise, the rest of the country care less ! Wrangler PHEV for the past three years, and charge it for the last three months, because of a software glitch that they have no fix for. Super frustrating, and with my lease coming due in the next six weeks, I have looked elsewhere for another vehicle. You basically can’t reach anyone who can give you a solid answer. Typical poor quality for customer service. Detroit definitely falls seriously short on this. Jeep has only sent me a recall notice, and when I called the number the lady said the earliest there would be a fix would be first quarter. Of course this will come and go and so will my Jeep. They have lost a very loyal customer, who has sent many referrals to my local dealership. Not very bright, but no one at the top ever ever listens anyway.

More giant grocery getters that'll cost over $60k at the dealership. This isn't the direction jeep needs to go. It's been said a lot, but they need to emulate the Jimney and make a small, affordable body on frame offroader with lots of upgrade potential. That's what the people want.
@colin-nekritz

Sadly, and I say this is a former Wrangler owner AND a 911 owner, the commodity grocery getters like whatever-the-f$&% these are and the Cayenne and Macan fund the enthusiast products. I don’t like it, no enthusiast does, but these boring “look at me” soccer mom and poser dad products print money for these brands.

The Jimny is a neat little vehicle. It's interesting to me that as expensive, large, and unaffordable as vehicles have become in America, Europe gets a ton of small, affordable vehicles from brands that are sold here. They are spoiled for choice. Americans just hate small, basic vehicles on the whole. I mean just look at how gigantic $80k luxury trucks outsell subcompact economy cars now. It's insane. Small vehicles were selling poorly so the manufacturers have been phasing them out in the U.S. I don't know that the Jimny or something like it would survive in America, which is a shame.

@palebeachbum the EPA Cafe standards is why we don't have any small cheap trucks. As footprint of vehucle increases the required mpg decreases. So large trucks can be legal where something like a 1980s ranger cannot.

It’s not only that jeep is too expensive and too much focused on luxury trims where you pay premium for irrelevant features and needlessly expensive materials. The main problem is that jeep did not develop and improve their popular models in years and is far behind the trend and what people want. The recon looks great but without a version of this with a gas engine it will remain an expensive niche product. My jeep is 9.5 years old and I will have to replace it in the next year or two. The issue with the transition to electric isn’t lack of charging infrastructure, speed of charging or range, though each of those things have an effect for certain segments of the automotive market. The biggest issue today is the cost of money - high interest rates and inflation-based pricing are making all vehicles cost more, which is slowing demand overall. Think of EV’s like cell phones or smartphones. When cell phones first came out, they were either big bricks or bag phones that offered less than an hour of talk time, had terrible service, limited areas and high costs. But people started buying them (for work) and within a decade everything improved and we’re now 30 years on we can carry a smartphone that is more powerful than desktop computers from a decade ago. This is how EV advancements is going to happen - is already happening.

Like with all technology it is going to advance and advance quickly. In my opinion for there to be the widest acceptance you are going to need increased charging infrastructure with speed or wireless especially in the cities because most parking is on public streets and you can't run an extension cord out your apartment window especially in winter. The other issue at least for me is if I'm driving from Boston to Florida I want to be able to fully charge in the time it takes for my wife to take a bathroom break. I don't want to have to spend an hour or more at a highway travel center waiting for my car to charge I don't have that kind of patience among other things I'm not going to lie convenience is key both at my home and on the road. I'm not adopting full electric if the convenience if you will is not there. To me at the moment Toyota has it right hybrids to goose the gas mileage and small engines with turbos to goose the power and satisfy our need for speed Not perfect but environmentally better than a big V8 getting single digit gas mileage Although I'm not going to lie the sound of a 4 with a turbo isn't as satisfying as the sound of a hemi

@@stanleyfurash7929This is currently a possibility With the right vehicle and charger. While you don’t get fully charged, you do get to 80% which will get you another 4 hours in the road approximately, depending on the vehicle for about a 15 minute stop. While I have not gone all the way to FL, I have made it to Atlanta from the Boston area with each stop being an average of 15 minutes, each way, several times. The problem is, not all vehicles are up to this charging speed yet, even new ones just being released, and the charging infrastructure is not there yet. In time, it will be. Was in the market for a new SUV to replace my old Yukon after 40+ years of driving GM trucks (two K-Blazers and this Yukon with 360K miles). The current Yukon has gotten too large for us empty nesters and GM has not interest in competitive pricing. The GC looked like a good choice, especially as costs started coming down, but I was concerned about reliability on the 4xe model the dealers insisted on applying profit-padding ad-ons. Then the new GX came out. Solves the reliability concerns (even as a first year model I'd trust it since it's built in their top of the line Japanese facility), I like the flexibility, look and size, and the price is about the same. After the "first on the block" folks get their heads ripper off by their neighborhood Lexus dealers, I'll be visiting them to see what they can do for me.

I wish I would have held on to my TJ. But if I had of been smart and done that, I wouldn't have a use for the CJ 2A in my garage now.

I think the Recon is quite good looking, but wonder about the practicality of an EV-only platform for an off-roader. I wonder if they’ll structure it so they can offer other drivetrains, like a PHEV setup.

Yup. Recently bought a used 2020 4Runner TRD OR. It was $35k with 27k miles on it. If I had wanted to stretch my budget more, I could have gotten a new 2024 TRD OR Premium for $44k. Comes with a rear locker, off road modes, etc., and a reliable proven 4.0L V6. Jeep can't touch that with a 10 foot pole. This move to PHEV or Full electric across their range is going to sink the company.

While I’m glad to hear they’re dropping prices somewhat, though not nearly enough, I was looking forward to hearing more details on upcoming products or at least a mention of the Jeep they just teased under a blue cover…and what about that cool-looking 4xe silhouette they showed in an illustrated lineup, almost 2 years ago, that looks like a 2-door off-roader with a spare on the back? Was it the Magneto or something else? It You guys even pointed it out, but there’s nothing since. I was hoping for more juice to this story…

I'd like to see if the Ramcharger range extender technology has a place on Jeep's roadmap. Range extenders are maybe under-developed as an EV option. On the other hand, it is a LOT of extra hardware, maybe a ladder-frame truck is the only good place to really implement the concept....

Not arguing about the efficiency of gasoline or diesel engines. They are what they are and their uses are widely established. That being said, the majority of us don't want to have to deal with battery powered cars and the hassle of keeping them ready to go. @@squirreldriver

I used to be obsessed with Jeeps and most other FCA related models until I learned about their quality reputation draining over the last several years. Same goes to GM and Ford as well even though I'm kinda a Ford guy. One of the reasons why I moved on to loving Toyota 4x4s and other Japanese stuff cuz they have much better quality reputation.

I enjoy my JK. I have zero interest upgrading to a JL due to the cost and maintenance issues. More technology equals more maintenance issues. Then there is the issues with taking a $60,000+ vehicle off road exposing it to scratches, dings, dents, and expensive parts that tend to get damaged or broken. Wranglers aren’t luxury SUV Range Rovers. They are supposedly designed to be go anywhere off road utility vehicles. Seriously off roading an expensive luxury vehicle for fun is limited to very wealthy people that enjoy tearing up their expensive toys.

The Recon, will be placed just below the Wrangler in the model line. Making the Wrangler the "Luxury"/Halo 4x4 SUV; of the brand. Most people don't off-road them anyways... so the Recon, will do just fine. Offering a lot of the Wrangler utility! This allows the Wrangler to scale-up in price... with editions priced like G-Wagons!!! You heard it here first!!!!
