Whatever you said in this video I have faced all of these while working in one of the top private sector bank of India. So this is a normal practice of companies be it a law firm or Bank or anything else. Being a married man you even can not quit whenever you want to specially when you have to pay your home and car EMI's. Har roj khoon ki ghoot pee kar naukri karni padti hain..

But the thing you quit the same law firm job...is a distant star for many who come from small towns and are first generation in the field of law. This thought is always building up in my mind as a litigation firm, where I am fed up with work culture of law firm. However mine is not that bad but to think in terms of growth what type of work culture is offered in tier 1 firms is scary and makes me shift career paths all together.

Law firm life is not for everyone, the learning curve is fast and immense as a beginner but one has to plough through it. It's not a happy home where leaves and weekends are guaranteed. Also whoever said there is no bonus in a company in house team and it's easy to take a leave. The day you proceed for a leave, you will become more important than the ceo of the company. Law firm life is not for someone who wants a well balanced life especially in the begining of their career! It's hard work physically and emotionally! Leaving is easy but finding a new job is equally tough.

As a person who has worked in 3 law firms for nearly 4 years i agree with each and every point. It was easier for me to work in law firm when i was single once i am married it was impossible. It is indeed very toxic. However if you have a very good person to train you as a fresher you will gain experience and learn a lot. Your skills will improve further if you change jobs. This is one of the reasons most companies prefer people who have worked in law firm. I have also seen fresh grads who have joined law firm after they joined as in house counsel since there was no learning in the job.

@veereshvastrad3501 I worked in a small law firm headed by a former Judge. I was barely paid 40k per month. Worked on an award, typed 50000 words, read 20000 pages ALONE no one reviewed no one even thanked me for pulling it off alone. Worked on a case for 200 hours and my name was not in the final award. Worked on an SLP and notice was issued, my name was not in the ordersheet. I would be yelled at and mocked. The parter there would play favorites, started simping over an assessment intern there, yes an intern. Ofcourse hired her, gave her my credit and even better cases. I left obviously. For the longest time, I didn't believe in anything. I was a walking corpse and highly suicidal. If not for my mother's support, I wouldn't be writing this. I'm better now, preparing for judiciary and praying for the best. PS - YES I would get exploited on Sundays also. I would attend conferences till 3 AM on weekdays.

Aside from the fact that one is not an employee - what you describe in terms of leaves, competition, working weekends is in fact of life in every single field including in fact startups of any kind. Some startups can be toxic in every sense of the term just as an established listed company can be just as toxic. Well rounded/ balanced life is a fallacy unless u work for yourself and your business / profession has tajen off. And u didnt hit on the politics in a law firm - why not?

hey , if you will start a company 5 years down the line , i would to handle your productions dept and operations dept and work with you as a team in anything you would like to do . because jack ma once said if you dont find your purpose find someone who does and follow them . @@ashwathinambiar4004 Hi so lawyers are on retainer basis and I believe other employees are on employment/ contractual basis so it might be better for them in that sense. In terms of maternity leaves etc, the policies are very good so they do provide that but as far as I understand legally, on a retainer basis, they are not obligated to provide them to their lawyers.
