I am a Native American and I often try to make my friends make indian jokes. I find it hilarious. I was offended that the far left crowd told me that I was offended at the Washington Redskins' name. Like idgaf. It actually made me feel proud that my people were a national football team's name and they were internationally recognized. Thought it was pretty neat. I just find it appalling that a group of people that nobody wants tells you when and what you should be offended by when they have literally nothing to do with it. Like nobody asked for it or wanted it. Edit: after receiving notifications for people liking this comment I kind of came back to this topic and it got me to think. Thought it wouldn’t hurt to add a little more. I find it paradoxical that the same group that rallies tirelessly for inclusion is the same group that rallied for the name change. Even if they found the term “Redskin” racist (even though a majority of the people that should’ve had a say in the matter aka actual Native Americans didn’t) it was inclusion of a minority group nonetheless. What they should’ve done if they actually cared like they say they do, is to rally to change the “racist” name to something inclusive yet “not racist” instead of removing it entirely. I feel like it was both a waist of time and energy when no positive outcome came from it. Sure the “racist” name now isn’t there but also the Native American group now has 0 representation.

@@coldhaven1233 I hate how the people who find certain things "offensive" to minorities" are all heterosexual White people. I mean, the arrogance! They cry about "racism," yet think they're good enough to be our "representatives." For their information, the only thing we ARE offended by is their labeling of us as "minorities," dividing us into separate groups based on our outer appearances, and outright telling us that we're "victims" of some imaginary "system." What is it with identity politics with these people if not about control? If any of these were actually offensive, we would've spoke against this decades ago, but didn't because we're proud of being recognized and portrayed by the world. As long as the team won, that's the most important thing. There was nothing wrong with the Native American girl on the Land O Lakes butter, but, apparently, these "feelings police" apparently assumed that Native Americans were "offended" by this, so removed the girl from all of their labels, which I'm really upset about when I noticed it this year, and so was everybody else in my town, and I always thought it was nice to see a non-White person's face on a good American product. And same goes for other races, too, like these "progressives," for example, removing Uncle Ben's face off of his company (THAT is racist) because, since his skill supposedly had something to do with slavery or whatever they complain about, they think it was "racist" to portray a Black person in a kitchen or something (I don't know. These "social justice warriors" overthink and complicate the simplest things). Same with Aunt Jemima. I mean, they took something bad and turned it into a global business of their own, so it's something to be proud of. What IS offensive is how these people pretty much erased them. Heck, even the one set of grandparents from Rugrats, a CARTOON from the 1990s, generated controversy because, apparently, non-Jewish White people assumed that Jewish-Americans found the characters "offensive" for how stereotypical they were portrayed, even though Jewish-Americans actually thought the characters were hilarious and spot-on with their own grandparents, and that it was done in a very wholesome manner. The reboot of the cartoon is a disaster that never should've happened, not only because you don't change a classic, but because of how "woke" they made it to make it more "realistic/relatable," maybe, but it's just a mess (and the grandparents are now neutral White people, as if canceling their background is somehow more "tolerant"). I'm not Native American myself, but as somebody of East Asian descent, I get this. I don't find anything of this offensive in any way, in fact, a lot of it is funny, such as some Skittles commercial some years ago with the Korean Scot that we actually LOVED (because we never see Koreans in commercials, let alone a funny one like this. My mother's from Korea, and she cracked up when she saw it), and like the Chinese restaurant scene in A Christmas Story, which my whole family, along with all of the other Asian people in our area, finds the funniest part of the movie and always make fun of every year when we watch it around Christmas time, but, when they showed it at school one year, the teacher skipped that part and gave minuses to the boys who were mock-singing "fa ra ra ra ra" while not mentioning me, the only Asian kid, directly, apparently, because I "might" have been "offended" by this, even though I remember laughing along, while my mother told me that when some co-workers did the same during a Christmas party years ago, one of their bosses stepped in to stop it because they were "offending" my mother, the only Asian, even though she wasn't, and she felt bad for being the cause of ruining everybody's fun. If the media cuts that part from the movie, we protest. Didn't mean to rant, but all of this is infuriating. These so-called "enlightened" people are all creating actual victims out of us, people who just do our own thing and don't waste our time getting angry ("offended") over stupid, shallow things, who were never victims until they came along and said we were. But of course, stupid people think they're so much smarter than they really are, and when they feel that something might offend one "minority," first thing is to cancel and criminalize it (read: "might." "Offend." And "ONE." Doesn'tmatter if 1,000 of us "minorities" are okay with something). Sure, bad things happened, but all of that was old history and you can't change it, just move on from it. It didn't happen to US. Only those people can get "offended" by FACTS, which they need to learn to distinguish between OPINIONS (feelings-based, like everything about the Left).

Massive respect for putting out this video amidst the crisis itself...the main problem with today is that social media made it extremely easy for offended idiots from all over the globe to gang up on somebody and yell/threat/complain until the snowball gets big enough...social media made it so that mob justice is once again the norm in our society...for example, think of an 80's group of friends, they come over to a friends house to watch some TV show and an offensive joke comes on, one of them might say "hey that was offensive" and everyone else would say "oh shut up you baby it's just TV"...fast forward to 2018 that single person that was offended can go online and start some bullshit hashtag and wouldn't you know all the social justice warriors available will join the cause...The fact that someone started a petition to ban Matt Damon from any future acting roles because he said that minor sexual harassment, although wrong, is not and should not be treated the same as actual rape cases... The worst thing about it is that 99% of comedy has to have some side offended for it to be actually funny and relatable

It's because people jump to conclusions rather than looking at all the facts to a situation. Also bringing up mistakes that some one made in the past is a weak and cowardly move & people who bring that stuff up. EVERYONE has made a mistake in their lifetime, just like every one is a hypocrite and it just seems that they need to attack some one for their mistakes so they don't have to focus on their own. It's sad really. People in 1st world countries care more about their feelings and offensive words, while real tragedies like malnutrition, disease & poverty are real world problems in a lot of countries around the world. I was always taught to help my fellow man, regardless if we think differently. I don't want any one to die, I don't want any one to get hurt. I believe every one in the world deserves a chance to make some thing of themselves, but many are too afraid and insecure that they won't apply themselves. Why? I wonder. My main guess is because they care too much about what others may think of them. Who cares if some one judges you, who cares is some one doesn't like you. Living your life on the approval of others isn't healthy and only makes the person seem selfish and egotistical. It's not about being right or wrong, it's about working together to not only better the country, but making sure that future generations have a good place to live. It's gotten to the point I won't even bother talking to people I don't know cause I automatically expect the worse out of them cause it seems like at least one person will be offended by any thing you say these days. Perhaps it's the world changing, but I'll always chalk it up to bad parenting.

My feeling on “offensive” speech is this: if someone says something offensive there are two possibilities, 1. They are intentionally trying to offend you. In which case getting offended is giving them exactly what they want and therefore you should not be offended that way you deny the person what they want from you. 2. They were not intentionally being offensive to you. In which case it is just a misunderstanding, misspeak, or difference of opinion. In which case you should not get offended, because there was no intent to offend. So either way getting offended is a CHOICE you should not make.

Thought2 says in the video "Offense is subjective. What you're offended by is vastly different from person to person. What offends us depend on our social or economic background, our religious views (or lack thereof), the friendships you've had, how you were brought up, were you live, your political affiliation, your ethnicity, sexuality, age, gender, even your diet." Yawn. The dude conventiently leaves out "education" as a factor, especially "level of education on the topic that people feel they're being called out on". Why? Because being stupid is much easier than being knowledgeable, and most of the cheering supporters of this video are, in fact, stupid. That's why he omitted to talk about "education", since such a factor would eliminate the whole "free speech" trope cliché he keeps rambling about. Easy views, easy likes, easy life. This videos is clearly made for the not-so-intellectuals. And they're quite a large crowd to direct your misleading advertisement to, hence the popularized thumbnail of this video. Gotta get 'dem clicks!

Some people believe that their opinion on a topic is equal to everyone else's input on that same topic, no matter whether the other guys have actually studied the subject or not. Why? Because morons overestimate their knowledge in a classic psychological trap while at the same time believing that "free speech" guarantees anyone to say anything without being ridiculed about it. The only ones going on about "free speech" today is alt-right Simpletons living in Western societies that generally knows better than them, and people being oppressed in authorative countries that doesn't allow free speech at all. The exact same type that I already said would enjoy this video. And I'm sorry for that. I could comprehend the point of the video just fine, but the point is flawed and misleading. Hence my comment. You obviously couldn't look past what was being said, you just went along with it because he ultimately agreed with you either way. That's who you are. We don't have to be enemies just because we don't think alike, but bad people are going to take advantage of you if you don't move out of your filter bubble. You think people in Trump hats are the proponents of free speech? The same people that punches people in the face for attending a Trump rally and not being a supporter? The same people that feel emboldened enough to group up and walk around with torches in the night like their clan ancestors? Who do you think they are favoring? The problem is responsibility: people aren't taking responsibility for their thoughts and feelings. They assume that what they're feeling is caused by some event, when in reality it is caused by their thoughts ABOUT that event. That's why you can have 2 people that can experience the same event, but have completely different reactions to it.

The lack of that responsibility has resulted in so many nonsense movements such as #meetoo, #feminism, #fatacceptance and #blacklivesmatter that seek to do nothing but destroy and shame others who'll dare even slightly disagree with their ideals by promoting victim mentality, instead of kindly encouraging others to make contributions. These contributions cannot be through offensive criticism, and certainly not complaining 24/7. Like if you feel bad about yourself that isn't anyone's fault that you are the way you are. Stop searching for that one person or thing to blame. You can't blame a company for not hiring you due to your weight if the job is more suitable for skinnier people. And that's YOUR problem that you're not actively working out, or cutting down on what you eat, and still have the nerve to expect to be thinner. Again, you can't blame men for the inequality between two sexes. Same examples could easily be reversed. There are abused and beaten male victims too. Likewise, it's not just black people that have the capacity to become victims. There are unemployed white men too. So all lives should matter the same way. Not just black lives. All people should be defended, not just women(the name should be humanism, not feminism) Like these movements do nothing besides welcoming us to cry over and over. And that's all they ever do. Nothing of use.
@ladymoniquevonmolendorff53044 жыл бұрын
@@venomouspassion5744 Yes, I agree with you. Those movements could have had good intentions, but it morphed into an exclusive club full of people blaming whole genders, races, and nations for their problems. It's the problem of the ego, the "little me". People are so desperate for an identity, that they will make ANYTHING into a personal identity, be it their weight, mental position, opinion, race, gender, and the consequence of that, is that you seek to find others that think similarly to you and confirm your biases and beliefs, or you seek out people that oppose your viewpoint to strengthen your sense of self and make yourself feel superior, because look how wrong that person is!! How dare they have another opinion. I'm sure if I just shout MY opinions loud enough, they will see the error in their ways and see things MY way, which is to say the correct way. People need to mature past that point, now more than ever.

This video may have been 6 years ago but it is more relevant today. I appreciate the passion of your delivery and hear what you are saying. It is more than just a right to free speech (not to undermine the importance of that) but it is also about intolerance and acceptance (which you did touch on) and inclusion. What concerns me is that with political correctness gone mad there is less room for tolerance, hence understanding and acceptance. We should be celebrating the differences of culture and sexuality etc. Over exuberance of political correctness denies us the opportunity to explore the subtleties of culture, pay homage to it (lest we be seen as mocking or appropriating) or even just, as you say, express our thoughts. The golliwogs for example were loved by the children that them, it created an understanding that other cultures exist, that they are different in thoughts, feelings, actions, traditions, lifestyles and potentially inspired curiosity about such. It is how information is delivered, the framework, that needs to be treated sensitively with respect. I’m sure the parents that gave their kids a golliwog did so with the best of intentions. How many of them would have gifted a child such a toy to demonstrate that other cultures were inferior or were to be denigrated?
