Bought my Tudor BB36 Black dial in 2022 after seeing it at the AD. The Piano Black Dial looked elegant and simple. I wear this watch everyday from mowing the lawn to swimming in the ocean and this is my most favorite watch ever! The BB36 is a very understated watch! 😊

Have had mine for a good few months now and the love grows more and more. It's just so versatile, clean looking und beatifully balanced. In addition I good the Unclestraps Jubilee bracelet that fits with Tudor's original clasp which makes it very hard to choose this or the magnificent original Oyster bracelet. It's the favourite watch in my small collection by far!

Absolutely love my BB36 but the lack of micro adjustments meant I couldn’t get a perfect fit until uncle seiko released a half link for the watch, problem solved!

I had been wearing my bb36 on a rubber strap just to wait for the sales launch of half link from uncle seiko, been wearing on the fine bracelet with the half link happily which I think it's what makes the bb36 complete

Had one of these since Feb 2018. Superb, cheap to service, low key, great legibility and dealer gave me 15% discount without asking as 36mm was seen as to small at the time; how wrong were they.

I got the BB36 with a blue dial two years ago. It's an excellent every day wear watch. I can't see how an Explorer would be worth the extra cash and wait for it to become available.

Great review boys. Though i'll admit I bought mine because I felt it was a better value ( in early 2020) than spending $5K on a 15 year old 114270, I absolutely loved it. Which kinda came as a surprise as I had gone in to buy the BB58. it's a super watch. The black one especially. Thanks for the review.
@12and602 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support! The 114270 is a great watch too, but I think the second hand prices are crazy. Like you I just couldn't justify the purchase.

Loved the BB36 when I had it with the silver dial. The only cons were the legibility, which if you have the black dial, won't be a problem, and the power reserve. Fantastic watch though.
@12and602 жыл бұрын
If they'd have blacked out the hands and markers then the silver dial would be fantastic.

I have a BB36 with a black dial - it’s a superb watch, and I love the understated style. I’d love an Explorer, but this was a third of the price, and it feels a high quality timepiece.

Great video! great shots, lighting and overall filming and content........Which makes me mad! because I want an explorer, just ordered the Lorier Falcon series 3 as a tide over, and am strongly considering the BB36, and well shot videos like this make me burn for one twice as hard! great video and review!

I've been to my Rolex/Tudor AD the last week to let them know that I'd be interested in the Explorer 124270. Unsurprisingly I got told that the chances of me getting one within a year are slim but I got to try it on and it's all I want from a watch. After that I asked if they also have some Black Bay models for me to try on and I got handed the Black Bay Pro and the Black Bay 36. While the Black Bay 36 is also a great watch, I personally know for myself that I want the Explorer and not some alternative for it and I'd also suggest this to anyone that's in the same situation as me. Don't go for a watch just because you can't get the one you REALLY want, it won't make you happy...be patient and enjoy the hunt for the real deal. (not saying that the BB36 is lesser of a watch, if you enjoy it that's great, just don't buy it if it's only your second choice, that goes for every other watch too)

Agree 100%, wait and save up for the watch you really want, it works out cheaper in the long run.

I have a blue version. It's a lovely watch, just falls short of the Rolex OP's movement. I own both, but if I'm honest can buy a Chris Ward for a lot less, and in reality is just as good
@brett23962 жыл бұрын
I love your instagram and I've been looking forward to this review Turned out to be my favorite BB36 review! I own this watch and I don't think it gets enough by love. Most people write it off for not being a Rolex or not having an in house movement. It's a higher grade version of the ETA/Sellita movement like you said that's highly regulated. So if no one told you it wasn't in house, you wouldn't know the difference because it performs just as well as the movement in these Rolex watches. I think you get so much value with the BB36, especially used.

I'm a bigger guy (6'7") and find 38-39 wears like 36 does on some people. I've tried the blue 36mm model on, as well as the silver in 41mm. I really am hoping Tudor updates these black/blue steel models with the new cases/sizing options. I didn't like the way the 41mm model looked, but would absolutely love 39mm. I'm still lamenting the discontinuation of the 39mm Explorer, and this in 39mm would fill that desire for me.
@12and602 жыл бұрын
I'm sure they will. I'm just not sure why they didn't update these with the S&G versions earlier in the year. The only reason I could think is that they have more inventory of the steel to clear first. I wouldn't be surprised if they release an updated version later this year or at the start of 2023.
@RedwoodAggie2 жыл бұрын
@@12and60 I think you're right. We will probably see that version updated in early 2023. I'm already picking up something (TBD) a bit more expensive than that this year anyway, and probably wouldn't also buy another $3K+ watch that quickly. Next year is fine with me.

A question for owners out there. I know the bracelet, at the clasp, has one rigid link which, I have heard, may make the bracelet jut out from your wrist, if your wrists are on the smaller side. Have you noticed this? My wrist is about 6.5"
@akronorka2 жыл бұрын
I wore the blue 36 every day for the last year, but just recently traded in on a 39 ranger. I was convinced the 36 was perfect for my 7.1” wrist, but as time went on I kept thinking it looked too small for my stature. My wrist is average but I’m not a small person. For years I lusted after the old op 36 with the maxi case, should have bought when they could of been had for less then 6k. As for the ranger, I think the size is right, just the face looks big/void at certain angles due in part to the cool/funky domed retro crystal. Totally different vibe from the black bay. Jury’s still out, we’ll see if I still have the ranger this time next year.

The new S&G model line comes with MT calibre and micro-adjustment on the jubilee. The old S&G model was around 4000€ and this new one is close to 5000€, so those two updates essentially added 1K to the price. I believe the eventual regular BB36 update will also be quite pricey, that should make this current model with its smiley dial quite desired.
@tfresh992 жыл бұрын
Cool vid! Great watch! I would add there can be a wait list for this model as well as the bracelet may not have enough links for 7in or larger wrist. Purchased one last year as an anniversary gift for wifey, but I’ve considered getting a NATO strap so I can borrow it.

It's not that Rolex watches are rare, they're common as muck on the used market. No one wants to own a Rolex to wear, they just want to make fast cash. As soon as someone buys a Rolex, it's back up for sale. It's the Rolex watches available to buy from the AD is where the issue lays. This is why true watch enthusiast look elsewhere. They see past the games and find alternatives and in some cases a better watch for half the price. Tudor have exploited this gap.

Design-wise I like the BB36 way more than the Explorer. Snowflake hand is better looking and more unique than the mercedes hand. The triangle-circle-baton indices makes a better dial proportion than the 3-6-9 Explorer’s dial.

I would personally say SanMartin interpretation of both the 36mm explorer or BB, with a sw200, are the best alternative. Great quality for the price
@marcuschamp14602 жыл бұрын
...well said John ..... personally I much prefer the 36mm Armida A6 Explorer homage with the ETA 2836 movement to the San Martin , the Armida has the original style numerals without any aged lume and a very unique seconds hand ...... I love the styling of the original Rolex 1016 Explorer but since Rolex no longer makes such a beautiful watch and if they did they would charge outrageous prices and considering the stupid prices for dodgy vintage pieces one is left with little alternative than to thank microbrand watch companies for satiating sensible watch enthusiasts needs ........
@12and602 жыл бұрын
I've been tempted by the Armida A6 before, but never pulled the trigger. The San Martin stuff doesn't appeal to me, as their pieces always seem too close to just being rip-offs. Though these days homages tend not to appeal to me as much as they used to. (with some exceptions)
@marcuschamp14602 жыл бұрын
@@12and60 .... the quality of Armida is seriously good , I have the 42mm A1 dive watch , the 38mm A12 62MAS with vintage correct aluminium bezel , that is in my opinion better than any other 62MAS out there including the quality control plagued Seiko ..... and the absolutely superb A6 which is simply divine ...... whilst Armida are not the cheapest watches out there they are well worth the money and several times a year they have a 15% off sale ....... and no I do not work for them I just like sharing my joy with others about excellent and affordable wristwatches ...........
