This is a Czech tumblr specific holiday, but the first Wednesday of the month is Weird Noise Wednesday, because that's when our country's siren system gets tested (so at noon there'll be sirens for roughly a minute and then everyone continues with their day). Hello! It's the Horse People. The universal birthday is kinda weird so I'm here to give you a long and unasked for explanation as to why we do it and why it's silly. Also I'm from the US and will be using the dates we use. January 1st is the universal birthday for horses in the Jockey Club (thoroughbreds), AQHA (quarter horses), and probably many other breed registries but at this point we just assume Jan 1st for basically every horse. We do this so that all horses born in a certain year are required to enter the same competitions because we don't want people entering horses born in November of 2023 to be racing horses born in January of 2024, since they'd have a two month advantage in their development. Bigger horse = more muscle = better competitor. People also used to say their horse was like 6 months younger than it actually was and would scam the shit out of people. Does that mean that now, in the year of our lord 2023, people don't fudge the date of their foal's birth? Of course not. Nobody is watching the birth of your foal, so if it's born in mid to late December, usually we just pretend they miraculously were born with a full winter coat on January 1st. They definitely weren't born a week early, dw about it :). Realistically, most foals are born in January or even as late as early February. February 14th (yes, really) is when we consider the breeding season to start. That's when boy horse and girl horse fall in love. Problem, February is, idk if you know this, dark and cold and miserable. NOT when horses are usually breeding. The normal horse breeding season is a much more reasonable and understandable March-May timeframe. How do we solve this problem? WE PUT MARES UNDER 16 HOURS OF BRIGHT LIGHTS FOR 6-8 WEEKS SO THEY'LL HAVE A CYCLE IN TIME FOR FEBRUARY. WE ARE DERANGED. Think about it. Why would a mare want to give birth in the dead of winter? She wouldn't. It's cold. Cold means baby is sad and probably dead. Spring is much nicer, and things are edible :). Delightful :). We said "hey fuck that, actually" and now we have the most impractical birthday. The mares are cold. The foals are cold. I'm cold. The only good thing to come from this is they manufacture newborn horse coats. So we get to put little coats on the little guys :) TLDR; Jan 1st is, in fact, the universal birthday for a lot of horses because old white dudes used to get into fisticuffs over horse racing age advantages. Feb 14th is when we start the breeding season. This is in the dead of winter, we are all cold. Horses aren't naturally giving birth at this time, we just changed it artificially because we love to suffer and our work is never finished. Baby horses get little coats because it's -10ºF and gets dark at 4pm. But little coats for the little guys :) Thank you for coming to my ted talk about Horse Birthday. Horse breeders are insane and we will fight each other otherwise. Its something to do with standing out in the rain all day, I think. As an addition to the "pretending horses are half a year younger" part: At least here in Germany that.. let's say loophole is more or less fixed through copious amounts of paperwork outlining when the mare was bred. You get a piece of paper, the owner of the stud gets a piece of paper, the stud book gets a piece of paper. Anyone able to count *should* be able to come to the conclusion that 11 months from November can't be January, but the horses don't count either, so I can imagine that some foal registrations still are.. forgotten temporarily, though it's a lot harder to scuff than in the US. Leave it to the germans to sort out the paperwork. Then again, I'm not from the racing camp of breeders, ours are bred in summer so we don't have to burn through a towns yearly budget in elecricity costs or blow the same amount on hormones. Not like we have the manpower, anyway. " The mares are cold. The foals are cold. I'm cold." I feel your pain in my bones. Our winter wasn't cold, but so, so wet. We haven't had more than 24 hours without rain since August '22. The mares are pissed. The foals are pissed. I'm fucking miserable. But Spring is coming and that means no more rain, right? :)

I first discovered Tumblr sometime in February or March 2013. I was not yet 12 twelve years old. Even as someone with a history of bad memory problems, I can recall experiencing the Mishapocalypse with vivid accuracy. II had no idea what hit me. It was after a grueling Monday at my Catholic school, 7th grade. I logged on to Tumblr to get my daily dose of Pokémon Black & White fanart. What I was met with instead was post after post, profile picture after profile picture, banner after BANNER of the same strange man staring into my soul, a man I had *never* seen before. I was terrified. I couldn’t escape him. I scrolled for what seemed like forever, searching desperately through an endless sea of Mishas for any sign of humanity, anyone who had not yet succumbed to the strange middle-aged-white-man virus; my prayers were not answered. I saw no cute Pokemon on that fateful afternoon, only the soulless eyes of Misha Collins. That was the day I learned of a name I would NEVER forget: the Supernatural fandom.

God, has it been 10 years since the Mishapocalypse?! I vividly remember scrolling Tumblr on my sofa after uni and seeing all the Mishas lmao. The 2020 elections really brought me back to that day, that evening had the same energy as the old fandom shenanigans days. I hadn't been on Tumblr for months until my friend sent me a meme about Destiel being canon and I had to rush to Tumblr to see it for myself. And boy, am I glad I did.

This isnt super relevant but I need to scream it into the void. I met him at the eclipse event he mced this year and I know a person who is his irl friend. I'm one degree of separation from misha collins. I dont know what to do about this. Hes nice and he likes space and I sold him a tshirt while thinking he looked familiar. The only disguise he used was a baseball cap and sunglasses, leading me to believe clark kent would be fine. I only found out it was him when I was drinking later with his friend who mentioned he had come over to the booth. He was staying in the same hotel as us and I took my castiel keychain off my backpack because I would literally die if he or his friend acknowledged it in any way.

We all celebrate his death by making memes and passing around a wonderful rant. (Jurgen Leitner Death Day) Fuck you and fuck your train Friday: There is no train sex happening (that I've seen), just... weirdness. Complete and utter weirdness. One time in a Mechanisms album one of the characters shouted "Fuck you and fuck your train" and the entire fandom loved it.

Fun thing: in Norway the 23rd of december is called "little christmas eve", probably because christmas eve is when the big celebration happens, and the 23rd is when the families from far away get together and just chill. So I guess christmas adam is important to some people (kind of). Also common to watch Dinner for One (for some reason its not on new years eve). This probably applies to the rest of scandinavia as well, but I'm too lazy to check.

I don't know if "Chicago Quizno's Coyote Friday" is a bonafide Tumblr holiday, but it was definitely a real thing. Chicago has a decently large population of urban coyotes (although you rarely see them, especially during the day), and on this particularly hot summer afternoon, one decided to pop into a Quizno's in the Loop to plop himself down inside the drink cooler. I think it lives in everyone's head rent-free because it sounds so ridiculous until you see the photos, at which point you have to ask why WOULDN'T the coyote be in the Quizno's drink cooler?

I was there for Mishapocalypse and I am not lying when I say I literally printed out the infamous photo, made it more waterproof with transparent self-adhesive plastic covering, and attached it to my school backpack with safety pins once the day arrived. I think I left it there for some weeks until Misha started to get a bit too crumpled and sad. It was quite a big piece of paper too, so people would've definitely been able to see him staring from many meters away as I was walking outside. The funniest part was that I don't think I ever even truly enjoyed Supernatural, I now realize I was only watching it and joining the fandom sillies for my ex because they loved it.

the sewing an egg on a shirt image shown at 2:56 was taken by the photographer shawn bradford. he was a big name on tumblr in certain artsy / postmodernist circles and his urls were shawnbradford and later thepowergame. he is also responsible for a number of photographs of pizza in weird situations like tucked into bed and locked to a bike lock. in 2016 he deleted most of his work off the internet but you can still find a number of his pieces floating around on pinterest and in a buzzfeed article of all things.
