THAT MIX BREED FEMALE THAT OP WAS TRYING TO IDENTIFY IS A JUGGALO!!
@ebagentj7 ай бұрын
This is what I love about the clown husbandry community: no matter how rare or obscure the breed is, there is always someone who has exactly the answer you need. Although according to my research, Juggalos can be a tricky breed. They have specific enrichment procedures, diets, and it's best if you let them gather with their kind periodically for mating and social requirements.
@destructionandcreation7 ай бұрын
@@ebagentjYes. People often dont want to give them cigarettes because they "smell" and even those who do, so often fail to understand Juggalos NEED specifically MENTHOL cigarettes for their markings to come in and to develop their whooping sac properly. Don't get me started on people who try to substitute Faygo with things like Mountain Dew.
@MercuryIsDumb7 ай бұрын
@@ebagentj As long time Juggalo owner I can tell you that they are actually very easy breeds to take care of, but they are very misunderstood and definitely a rarer species to find since they aren’t usually as kid friendly as a Whiteface/Circus clown in most circumstances, this can be seen with it being labeled a Scary Clown just because of its unique coloration and markings. More information should have been gathered and taken into consideration before jumping straight to labeling from behind a screen. Juggalo’s are very docile and are good with people. The only time they get violent is when the know that a person around them is a criminal especially one that has escaped justice or if a human they are close to is in danger, because of this they are great guard clowns. Even if a person isn’t a direct threat Juggalo’s have a slightly scary aura to people who aren’t used to them, while this has it’s advantages for “chicken” or “pig” hunting and as guard clowns, it also leads to good people being afraid to approach a loving, caring creature that may just change their life for the better. The mention of a soda smell is a good sign though, it means that it is well fed and is getting enough daily sugar specifically from their favorite drink called Faygo, WHICH SHOULD NEVER BE SUBSTITUTED WITH MOUNTAIN DEW!!! The whooping sound is also a good sign, that means it feels welcome and safe around the owner and the male clown. A great way to make them feel even more accepted is to whoop back! Specifically twice before waiting for a response! For me and many others Juggalo owners whooping becomes a reflex when seeing a Juggalo or even fellow Juggalo handler. Juggalo’s share many traits with Auguste clowns but are actually not related to them at all! Juggalo’s were a result of breeding Hobo Clowns with modern descendants of Bards and Jesters. The Hobo Clown genetics would explain the red coloration and the modern Jester is the explanation for the very unique facial markings! Another thing is that because of the Hobo Clown genetics a Juggalo can last on the bare essentials for weeks at a time! Strays are known to gather multiple times a year and set up temporary living spaces and even areas for the Juggalo’s with more Bard DNA to preform. This Posse of Bardic Juggalo’s are held to a higher regard almost like queen ants too their colony and are known to even feed the other Juggalo’s in excess. These gatherings are a beautiful sight, and sound!

Kiki's story broke my heart. Some Clown Owners have no respectfor their clowns. They try to enforce their own sugar free diet on their clowns and that may be ok with certain breeds, like Mimes (who should be given plenty of cigarettes) BUT All birthday mixes need sugar! The more refined the better!
@Mandavee7 ай бұрын
Also the femlae clown with the mime companion is OBVIOUSLY from the Possius Insanus breed. They were especially popular in the 90's to mid 2000's, but have since become more of a meme to anyone not in the culture. She should be fed ONLY Faygo brand soda pop, as Faygo is specially designed for Possius Insanus, and NEVER whoop back at one unless youre ready for some play fighting.
@mikaroni_and_cheez7 ай бұрын
I've had a few Possius Insanii and despite their markings and aggressive social displays seen in all members (which in other clown species are only found in the wild), these clowns are incredibly social and loving. I'd wager to say moreso than a scare clown at times (so long as you have a big enough "posse" for it to live with). They are bizarre but very protective of those they deem one of them. So sad their breed is seen as nothing but (ironically) a joke these days. My rescued teacup clown can't even laugh at that one

I have a question, if processed sugar is better for clowns, would it be better to provide brown sugar, or a highly processed alternative like dextrose? If the processing sweetness is the priority, dextrose seems more appropriate, as brown sugar is quite natural. Perhaps I should mill it instead? I have a thermomix, and my clowns have enjoyed me turning brown sugar into baking sugar. I avoid honey- it seems to be too natural, but I worry this may be based on misinformation spread in the clown community. Could an expert like you please clarify? /Gen /srs
@Morrynlupine7 ай бұрын
@@kwowka I have heard older breeds do better with more natural varieties of sugar, due to that being available at the time they were originally bred, but more recent and modern varieties have less qualms and sometimes even preferences for less natural kinds of sugar. Now it's VERY IMPORTANT you DO NOT give your clown sugar substitutes. I'm sure this doesn't need to be said, but you can never be too sure. I recommend researching what kind of sugars were available around the time your clown's breed was founded and figuring out what kinds of sugars they can eat from there. Most clowns have a preferred kind of sugar that is the most healthy for them and this should be your staple sugar, but I encourage you use other kinds of sugars as treats or enrichment as having the same kind of sugar over and over again can be quite boring to most clowns. And boredom can be very detrimental to a clown's whimsy and overall health.

(Obviously mimes don't whoop, right?) Whenever I bring this up, my friend seems really angry about it, as she has a disdain for the Juggalo breed due to a traumatic event with one she had in childhood. Every time I smoke around her clown, it always reaches for my cigarettes, but she won't allow it to smoke AT ALL. Also, she gives it coffee, which I honestly have no idea if they're Even able to drink without issue. Do you have any advice? Note for keeping a pack of theatre kids: make sure they are actually enjoying the part they play when they do group performances. Teach them to take turns in different roles, so that they all get the chance to star in their own performances. If they don't do well in one role, tell them they did a good job because they tried! It's vital to encourage them to experiment with their role, it shows other theatre kids that normally take a specific role that their peers are interested in and value them as part of the performance. I had a Pierrot style clown as a kid, we had to send him to a mime clown rescue when we had to move as where we moved would not have been the proper environment for them. The mime clown rescue got absorbed by an acrobatic clown refuge a few weeks later and I hope all the rescue mimes and acrobatic clowns were well cared for.

I think I'm about to become one. A Jester got abandoned at my house and I'm trying to get him to a vet. He's skiddish but warning up to me. My local rescue isn't taking any more stays so I guess I'm stuck with him for now. I'm struggling to find much on Jester care though
@Romanticoutlaw7 ай бұрын
@fallenking578 I've fostered a jester, they can be quite headstrong and sassy once they warm up to you! Take it as a sign of love when they feel safe teasing you! If you can, establish a particular chair or recliner as your "throne" so they can sit in it, and scold them playfully when they do, it never gets old to them. They tend to have a stronger desire for fresh fruits than most clowns, but you can never go wrong with fruit-flavored hard candies. Above all else, patience! A lot of people abandon jesters because they take their japes and gaffs too personally, so it may take yours a while to trust that you won't harm them or force them to leave because they made a joke at your expense. They truly are some of the most loyal clowns out there when given a chance. Good luck!
@Morrynlupine7 ай бұрын

Imagine this kind of thing being unearthed by (way way way in the future) internet archeologists with all context lost. Imagine people trying to study ancient clownology and clown husbandry. Experts are still divided on the reasons for how insular the communities were, with keepers seeming to congregate on this old social media platform, tumblr, alone. Perhaps this site was well known for advice on how to keep your clown. Curiously, though image sharing was available, these communities rarely attached images of their clowns, preferring text description alone. Research is still ongoing.

Awed by how shocked and delighted everyone is to discover that theatre kids are clowns. Clown is a theatrical art! Irl all clowns were once some kind of theatre kid, so in this universe all theatre kids must be feral clown pups that aren’t yet fully/successfully domesticated. Re: Giving your clown soda, if you have a breed that has seltzer glands (e.g circus, some circus-birthday crosses) giving them soda can be a double edged sword; on the one hand the carbonation of the soda definitely can help with seltzer production, but on the other sodas with food coloring (especially caramel color, the most common color added to colas, root beer etc) put a bit more strain on the clown’s excretory/waste systems and often the color is not completely filtered out, resulting in off-colored seltzer that could stain fabrics (ironic, since some circus owners are able to milk the seltzer to use as a stain remover.) I agree with the suggestion of sticking to sprite or clear sodas, but afaik caffeine should be fine for most purebred circuses but NOT for birthday since they already have a more hyperactive temperament. Also on the subject of training clowns to not squirt their seltzer, obviously having to wipe up puddles of sparkling water isn’t fun, but squirting seltzer is an important form of self-stimulating behavior for circuses, and punishing them for doing it IS ABUSE; if anything, encourage your clown to only squirt their seltzer outside.
@TeapotBird7 ай бұрын
ADDITION: The only clown that “needs” soda is the juggalo, specifically Faygo, a brand of budget soda from Michigan, but this seems to be more of a matter of enrichment as opposed to nutrition, as juggalos are known to enjoy spraying each other with faygo.

Alright so juggalo note (from a long time fan of ICP). The band and fandom came first, as did the monochromatic simple facepaint and iconic chains. Juggalos (the breed) were standardized and bred at the height of the band’s popularity in the 90s and remained niche but popular into the early 2000s. They were bred, pretty obviously, mostly from fear clowns but with some rodeo and mime as well (for the more laid back attitude and monochromatic palette). It’s pretty confusing since they’re still called juggalos, but there are also human juggalos. You’d see a lot of them at ICP concerts along with their owners and it was basically impossible to tell who was a clown and who was a human in paint unless you got up close, so it was kind of wild. I’ve gone to a couple with my two adopted juggalettes and they had a great time, but you really have to keep them on leashes otherwise they get lost in the crowd fast. Since the band’s popularity has seriously waned since that period, a lot of juggalos and juggalo mutts or crossbreeds are now abandoned/strays, and you often find them in shelters unfortunately. I urge people to adopt them if possible, they can look scary and dangerous but once you get used to them and socialize them properly they are the best buddies anyone could ask for, and can be surprisingly chill. They’re also pretty low maintenance all things considered, but will need a TON of Faygo so if you’re outside the US it might be a problem. Just wanted to chime in with my two cents!

Hello Professor Strange! I enjoyed your newest installation in the Clown Husbandry series. Hoping to see more on this fascinating subject. My mother recently acquired an Auguste x Rodeo clown as a chucklet, who has recently had its first-year molt! She is very lively and strong as is to be expected from the breed, as well as intelligent (my sister has taught her several tricks which she enjoys performing for the occasional circus peanut as a treat) and sweet (very cuddly and will honk herself to an accordion-like slumber in my mom’s bed at night). I don’t think my mom was thinking it through completely, blinded by the glossy painted eyes sparkling at her through the phone screen, but it’s worked out for the best. I thank Whoever Is Up There that we have a large yard in which she may frolic between the tents and plastic ball pits we have had installed. She is still very rowdy, understandable given she is still so young, but I see many years with her as a beloved family member. Her name is Birdie (she ate a wild dove the first week she was home. She is since not allowed outside unsupervised.) and she is a very good clown. I also liked your earrings. The petal-like structure is very cool. Hoping you have a nice day.

Every new post on this subject draws me deeper and deeper into a world where I am no longer sure where a joke ends and starts- what is irony anymore? What is levity? What is even real? Do you think this could be a sideeffect of my neighbours recent purchase of a Chaos Jester? They told me that the energies wouldn't be a problem because they have accordion and calliope music on loop in their apartment 24 / 7 and lined the walls with circus tent-cloth to create a containment field, but the way things are going.... I have stepped on five different bicycle horns today alone, and I swear I only own two.

@hahahahahahahahaa65807 ай бұрын
The SCP Foundation wiki has a whole subsection of the website dedicated to Clowns, with a few pages on Clown husbandry specifically! Of course, because SCP is predominantly horror, the nature and lore around Clowns is quite different. Some stories suggest their origin is in another dimension; eldritch entertainers cast out from their home for mocking the Hanged King in its own thrown room. Other stories detail horrific experiments that resulted in a human sub-species, created the minimize the Circus of the Disquieting's need for "child breakers." Honestly, I really recommend it for anyone who finds the Tumblr discourse unsatisfying. I noticed some people pointing out how uncomfortable treating fully-sapient creatures as pets is, and the dehumanization of Clowns is an integral part of the horror for many these SCP Tales. Its as nauseating as it is compelling.
