It makes sense about the higher protein intake. From my understanding of the thermic effect of food, it takes more energy to consume protein. I believe the thermic effect of protein is 30%. So if calories are equated, you should lose more with higher protein.

So what kind of time are we talking about when you say before a meal?
@ThePetieProject
@ThePetieProject 3 жыл бұрын
The study in the book didn't reference an exact time frame but I would think fairly close to the meal (a few minutes before / not hours before)

@@ThePetieProject so kind of like if you are about to eat something really spicy, you eat some carbs (bread, rice, etc) first so you insides don't get shredded.

Throughout my life, i hated eating in the morning. Couldnt just do it. Then listened to Charles Poliquin podcasts and talks and tried high protein breakfast. Been doing it for 3 months now and god damn. The energy that i never found in morning is now there and i feel so much better. Can't imagine life without it now. If only i could get my sleep in order, that would be another milestone to crush! Cheers!

High protein first meal has big impact on energy and satiety for me as well!

Food satiety for the calories amount is something people neglect all too often. Almond makes me feel so full, it's almost annoyingly effective haha

Haha very true. Satiety is a big factor instead of just calories in / calories out

How about the oxalate content of almonds? Does that not concern you?
@ThePetieProject

No, not at the moment. Too much of anything can negate the benefits. I eat a well rounded diet and almonds are a part of that.

Fiber binds with oxalates and prevents gallstone build-up. If you're on a carnivore or zero carb diet avoid almonds like the plauge or you'll end up with gallstones (no fun).

The reason almonds work to help lose fat is probably due to their high caloric value, therefore improving satiety and people less likely to tank up on crappy carbs like white bread. Amen to the high protein breakfast! Meat/protein is also going to make you feel more full, thus preventing excess carb binging.

Did they mention why eating the almonds before the meal translated into less body fat? Did people eat less overall? Did they try peanuts, cashews, or any other nut as well? I mentioned this in other videos of yours, but this is probably the most apropos place to do it. Take a couple hours and review Morley Robbins and Dr. Barry Sears interviews. I prioritize Morley Robbins' information as more important to the average person, but Dr. Sears' success with improving and extending the peak performance window of world class athletes is nonpareil. IMHO, the synergy of both their principles is getting really close to the optimal diet, and modifying it based on activity level and unique body biochemistry is part of the program as well (it isn't one size fits all). There were no other restrictions based on the study from what I can tell like caloric deficit etc, so no, it's not explicitly stated if the group that ate almonds before hand ended up eating less total calories throughout the day because they were less hungry. Either way if it helps to regulate appetite by eating them before or if it actually helps burn more fat by eating them before, the results are still amazing! Also not to mention, incredibly easy to reap the rewards because your aren't fighting your own hunger in any way through this method or depriving yourself of anything. Added Bonus....Almonds taste good too!
