In July 2021, the Elantra N was announced as the performance model of the Elantra within the Hyundai N sub-brand. The vehicle produced roughly 276hp powered by an 8-speed automatic DCT and has a curb weight of just 3,296 lbs - allowing the Elantra N to accelerate from 0-60 in just 5 seconds. All this from a mom’s car, impressive right? But here at Vivid Racing, we always like to push our cars past their limits - so we decided to install our VR Tuning Box and see exactly how much power we can get out of the 2.0-liter turbo I4 engine. The results, to say the least, were very impressive.

The actual testing was not completed with 3 people in it, the passengers got out of the car. All in all the 0-60 testing wasn't to show the absolute best 0-60 this platform can produce, it was to show the delta between stock and tuned.

yeah fr, i got a 4.83 0-60 3500 RPM launch octane learned. I have a 24 model year and can def tell they worked on the engine mount. My buddy 23 N would wheel hop using launch control lol.

The VR tune I got for my Kona 1.6t is great, not much different 0-60 difference but 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile improved the 50-130mph is the most dramatic difference. Mine also has the Injen Intake. Stock 9.95 1/8 now it's 9.80 and 1/4 14.98 at 92 mph, to 14.7 94.4 mph. Top Speed still governed to 135 mph, but the Kona gets really light in the rear at those speeds similar to the Ford Fiest ST or Focus RS/ST so I guess that's fine itd still be nice having 140 to have a slight top end edge over a few more vehicles.

I actually love and respect the growth of Hyundai. Car has great msrp it drives and performs better than entry level of the competitors and it has 100k warranty. You could say whatever you want but we need companies to grow like this specially Subaru which can deliver way better than what they are pushing out.

i ended up getting em down to around 30k end of month at a high volume dealer. added the 5k in warranty paint electronics undercoat etc.. Everything but tires and rims are covered. The GR corolla was going to run me 50k and this elantra may end up performing better. Unfortunately i have to refinance in a few months because i dont have installment history on my credit.z Then my payments should be alot more reasonable.

@Brian S after taxes and additional paint and computer warrenty $42000 US. Taxes were like $4k and warrenties around $3k. I could have walked out around $38k without additional paint warrenty, etc... Taxes were just insane. Then they add delivery fees and bs. I only put $5k down

Not all 0-60s will be home runs, we admit that we had a couple of rough launches while dealing with uncontrollable circumstances! But we hope to do some more testing in the future and see how well it holds up against the competition!

Is this tuning solution essentially a variation of a JB4? Does this tune strictly modify boost levels or does it alter fueling and timing accordingly? Also, does the dash reflect modified boost levels or is it like the JB4 where it still displays the stock numbers?

Best way to prevent wheel spin is to install aftermarket bushings for the engine mount or replace the engine mount with ones from Boomba or Sixth Element.

There’s an automated 0-60 timer already built into the performance menus…don’t have to use anything external to time.

We usually don't use the built-in acceleration timers on customer cars, due to the fact that many times it voids warranties when dealers see that you've "launched" the car and put excessive stress on the engine. Thanks for watching!

Couple questions: 1. I didn't see a spark plug change 🤔 2. I saw 15 psi on the boost gauge, did you have an actual reading for how much boost it was making🤔 These cars have that octane learning where another 3-4 psi is available.

Testing was performed on stock spark plugs featuring original gap. Keep in mind this was done on 91 octane so if using 93 or higher it will likely require 1 step colder with a tighter gap. Our V2 Tuning Box will provide an additional 4PSI , however, being our unit ties into the boost pressure sensor the factory boost gauge will not display an improvement.

I owned a 19 veloster N with the Race Chip box and was pretty happy with it and I currently own a 22 Kona N and will be going piggy back with it also, any chance y’all can beat the Race Chip numbers of 50hp and 60ftlb gain? I’m having issues with surging, fuel cut and backfiring at wot so I’m honestly going to send it back and just get a real tune. Won't this VOID the factory warranty when it's taken to the dealership for maintenance? The computer tracks all of the anomalies, and if there's a drivetrain issue it will not be covered if any modifications are found to have been done.

While throttle response can be improved, the manual will ultimately come down to the driver mod, and we don't sell those.

I got a '22 veloster N dct because the Elantra N is ugly as sin because of the crappy plastic front panels. (It looks fine in black, but the veloster looks way better.) Very happy with the car. The DCT is MUCH faster than manual, and I look forward to tuning it. If you have wheel hop on launch, consider an engine mount. Boomba racing makes a good one, but there are a few brands that make them. The most cost effective power mod that is very easy to install is to get an ECU piggyback. The Ecu system will run you around $650 and there are choices from several brands. The JB4 has the most room for growth IMHO, if you want to continue to mod. If you are happy with 320ish hp and 340-400fp of torque, than the sxth element ecu piggyback is great. Definitely upgrade the sparkplugs tho. I have read that not upgrading the sparkplugs when you add the sxth ecu is bad, but I have been unable to confirm if that is true. I was unable to find anyone who didn't upgrade the plugs and had a bad time. What i WAS able to confirm is that the stock plugs are made by a highly regarded company and that the stock plugs are fairly racy, so I don't know why new plugs are required. An important thing to know about the VN specifically, is that you need to be VERY CAREFUL when putting big tires on it. People have crashed their VNs because the back is so light it can hydroplane easily with big back tires. I would also recommend smaller rims and tires with a bigger sidewall. The stock tires are so thin that there is NOT much distance between the tread and the rim. This makes the tires much more susceptible to flats from hitting things like potholes.

Most people i've seen do videos on this car have had better luck launching it with lower RPMs. 2300-2800 sticks into my head for some reason as being in the range they found as the best launches.

@@sinappanis Outside of what the video shows we ended up testing quite a few different RPM settings yet still had issues with bogging from 1st to 2nd gear shift. The issue wasn't necessarily the wheel slip or grip when initially launching in 1st, its more or less the torque limiters and torque monitoring getting involved when shifting to 2nd gear. As we mentioned it was HOT that day (over 100 degrees) so with excessive heat soak that was likely the issue.

This car comes down to driver mod. I beat a hellcat charger from a 2nd gear pull by half a car with NGS. The next day I went head to head with a scat pack from a dig but I had my buddy in the car who weighs around 315lbs or so & missed my ideal shift point by accidentally pushing the N mode setting during the pull. Only mod I have is SXTH Element full intake with 3” turbo inlet.

I believe they forgot to press the NGS button. Even though it already set you still need to press it to give you the additional horsepower. That’s the reason it was 6 second

Off camera prior to filming we tested quite a few different settings including NGS. Unfortunately given the temps out side and the heat soak from repeated testing the NGS did not provide any gain or benefit as the car was already pulling timing from increased charge temps. Never the less the goal was to display a delta between stock and tuned.

This unit/system is a DTE System unit. They private label to many tuners. It gives the seller the option to use the tuners "tune" or the DTE Systems "tune".

No need to lie as their hardware is rock solid, that is why tuners private label their hardware. Almost ZERO hardware issues. And DTE does all the fulfillment and troubleshooting Race Chip, Sixth Element, TSI, GAIN, and 4 more that I forgot their names are DTE as YOUR IS.

Tuning box, plugs into sensors. Once you create the mapping of the tuning box, it works all the time. So its not live tuning a ECU like you would think for a WRX STI or something.

The chick doesn't even know how to launch the car. A 0-60 above 6 seconds and then blaming the conditions. The loss of traction came from high starting ROM and her own lack of launching experience. This car pulls 0 - 60 at 5 seconds in most normal conditions unless you are on a greasy road.

The results and launches shown are as authentic as it gets. The vehicle was in bone stock form, 10k miles with zero mechanical issues. The launches and 0-60 shown demonstrate an average user that is new to the vehicle. The car was set to max performance settings, traction was left off (completely off) and the vehicle was left in AUTO to hold a control between testing. We were also disappointed with the bogging we experienced from 1st to 2nd gear and occasionally 2-3. The reality is unless we ran the car in manual and rode 1st gear out longer it would fall on its head coming into 2nd. Heat soak is very much a factor we deal with on turbo cars here in Arizona, espeically cars with air to air charge systems. Our testing was not to display the absolute potential of what the car can produce 0-60, rather it was to display a delta between stock and tuned (which it did).

After repeated runs on the dyno temps definitely rose, however we saw no temp issues in real world testing. Keep in mind ambient temps here in Phx at the time of testing were roughly 95-100 degrees.

She's terrible at launching the EN. I own that same car and the 0-60 is 4.6 or so, not 6 flat. The launch control takes a few times to get the timing down but she should've practiced more.

Launch control is launch control. The car was set to full performance settings, traction control OFF. Factory launch control was set and applied correctly (at 3500RPM). Vehicle went into launch control properly, throttle was flat and left foot was lifted from the brake. Aside from manually shifting the vehicle there was nothing else to be done or change when testing this. The goal was to set a control to show a delta between stock and tuned. That is why the vehicle was left in AUTO. We were not tryin to display the best possible 0-60 the vehicle can produce in a perfect setting.

@@peterhong526 We played with many RPM settings for launch, unfortunately anything under 3k would dramatically bog. As mentioned the car was quite heat soaked from our ambient temps and back to back runs when testing, so in turn it would pull timing on launch at lower rpm range.
