I just wish the 6 spd was more engaging the way the civic si or gr86 sells as. "People want the R but they will buy the N", I agree. They both have their pros and cons, but I'd prefer the Type R, the main problem is the mark ups. At my local Honda dealership they have one listed for $72k... I'm sorry when are they going to come back down to reality? The verdict is simple. Don't buy the civic type R to stick it to honda for raising the price. Think about it this way, they were selling an accord with this same motor and gear box for 29k in 2018. Sure, its around 34k now...but the Civic type R is a whopping 10 grand over a LUXURY SEDAN with the same engine. The Bill of Materials just doesn't add up in my mind. If the Civic cost 39,000 it would already be more appealing simply because its technically "sub 40 grand". The elantra is fantastic, I don't think anyone should be skipping it just because the civic is 1% better. The fact that they can do it, means honda can to, and that is just the reality. You are paying for the name brand. Its the same reason people are fed up with over priced toyota trucks that use dinosaur parts. Its just a brand name. You would think car nerds would be hyper technical and notice this, but alas, like Orwell said in 1984, emotions trump truth. Elantra N wins this one for me. Much nicer car, more daily driveable, and 10,000 USD is a lot of money.

Between these two cars I would absolutely go with the CTR just due to its pedigree, build quality, and the kind of dynamics that only 30 years of development can bring you. But then I look at the price gap (as well as the laughably superior warranty) of the Hyundai and I start to think that, while the CTR is the superior sports car, is it really worth so much more money? As a Honda fanboy I say absolutely but as a poor person I just can’t justify the price. The Elantra N is an incredible bargain when you consider just how good it really is. I actually have A Kia 14G T20 3 year model and I did put 2 95 30 18 for tires on it. It does scrub, it will scrub. However, you're getting like 99.89% of your full lock before the tires actually scrub. However, there will be a 2 inch wheelpoak. It still shows that Hyundai Kia and even Honda, with its 265 for base really do love. Wide tires So the goal for the GT that I have is 265 right about where the civic type are is, if not 275 with a 9 inch rim. With that, I think it would be a quarter inch maybe half an inch of will poke, but if the standard car comes with 225 and it's able to the 4K GT that ISIS able to go about a 120 and light/medium curvy roads. The roads I have around here are light medium curve and bends. However, there are a few sharp hand corners. The car was able to get up to a mass of a 120 miles. An hour an average about 70 to 80 around most corners. If not, a little bit more with using proper lines. Oh my goodness, the front will drive cars. Now that are actually performance. Oriented really are knocking out your value per dollar.

I owned a tracked a fk8 in 75 degree weather and it overheated in 3 laps. 1-2 gear high rpm’s will grind if you rush it. I owned a 2022 Elantra N 6spd as well. 1-2 gear no problems. I never tracked it. It was not as fast as the type r on the freeway but it was more fun to bang gears and more playful oversteer. Also sounded better. From what I have read the fk8 and fl5 have an integrated cylinder head with coolant running through bolted directly to the turbo, for emission reasons. As well as the turbo right next to the front of the car next to the radiator instead of next to the fire wall like the Elantra. So the fl5 is improved but because of the engineering design there is no real fix for competitive track driving. Plus the stock compression and boost it runs are both higher than the slower non over heating Elantra n.

CTR has a reputation and legacy. But you have to ask yourself did the last gen and does this new gen live up to this legacy? The last gen had issues that most tried to deny. I researched CTR as a possible track toy and it became evident very quickly that was going to be a non-starter. Over the life of the platform, Honda made changes to address said issues but was never able to correct them completely. Now help me understand how this is a quality product? The jury is still out on the new gen but time will tell. Currently shopping for a new daily driver that will see occasional track use and I can tell you the new CTR and old are not on this list. Why? Last Gen has issues and I'm not willing to spend the time or resources to fix them. Why should I? The car should have come from the factory ready to go... and it didn't at least not for my use case as a dedicated track toy. My current track toy... Camaro SS 1LE has close to 9k track miles with zero issues as it came from the factory. EN with DCT is on my short list along with a few others including 2019 ATS -V. The point is dollar for dollar the EN offers more amenities and performance compared to last and current-gen CTR while being a better daily driver. As mentioned in the review what happens if EN is on 265's square set up or maybe put CTR on 245 square set up and run them again. The top end is CTR no question, overall performance and chassis dynamics might surprise a few folks. All one needs to do to see this is look with unbiased eyes. Long live the CTR legacy and blind sheep!!!

The DCT version puts the Elantra in the same class as the Type R. In fact, it beats the Type R in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Maybe around a track the Type R wins by a bit but certainly not off the line when talking about the DCT version which honestly speaking, in terms of performance, is a whole different animal when compared to the manual version. Hyundai and Kia are doing a fantastic job. They offer an array of affordable high performance vechiles. Not to mention their fantastic Genesis line of vechiles. They are drstroying Honda in terms of high performing offerings. It is a shame because we know Honda knows how to make a engine but their approach has largely ignored customers who like to drive higher performing vechiles. Not necessarily all out sports cars rather vechiles similar to the Accord 2.0t. They easily could have built some addotional vechiles using that motor or even tossed the 10 speed or a dct into the Civic or Integra. They instead decided to focus on gas mileage and efficiency by using tiny engines and misteable cvt transmissions. These decisions have lead to them losing market share to Hyundai who does make vechiles that appeal to every type of buyer. Basically Honda is losing a portion of the market yhey used to have.

Therefore you should have included the Audi RS 3 for $65-ish, 000. That is the true price of a Type R and the RS 3 leaves both the the Type R and bargain Elantra N for dead because the Audi is a luxury car that does everything better. Yup, $65K or about $20K over MSRP for a 'Civic' is the going rate for the new Type R. A fool and his money. Lots of fools out there.

Well to play devil's advocate it's a special car and a dying breed so of course the dealerships are going to charge more The only realistic way I see that not happening is if you're like Canada and you literally made a loss saying you have to charge MSRP you can't mark up

@@TwoDollarGararge I live in Canada and we actually do have mark ups on these type of cars too!! Dealership owners buy the car and sell it as “used” instead over MSRP

Very true. A Civic Type R is "affordable" in exactly the same way a Nissan GT-R is. It's attainable with a car payment of well over $1000 a month and while I'll acknowledge how sweet of a car it is all day, any day, for that kind of money there are WAY more badass cars to be had.

@@Nimasis Yes ! I saw a new Civic Type R in BC with 500km on it with an asking price of $89K CAD ! What a joke ! 😂

Wondering why the EN costs less? A quick way to show up the differences is by looking at the front brake setup. Just find pictures of the FL5 front wheels off. Do the same with the EN. Now you will understand why the EN is cheaper. No need to comment further. There are other areas of interest if you want to know them. 😁
