@@SaltyPeanutzwhat's worse is how easily they can hold that money up if they declare bankruptcy. Them being indebt for over 5 billion, they can easily hold that money up. When Dana bought WEC he took out a 50 million dollar loan. Then he took out an over 100 million dollar loan to buy pride. Then another 50 million to buy strikeforce. Over the years he has yet to pay off that first loan and he's only getting the company more indept. If Dana wants the UFC to be regarded in the same way NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB, then the UFC needs to pay it's fighter roster fairly. Those other big leagues share revenue basically 50/50 with it's players. The UFC shares about 15% with it's fighters. For the fighters, this is obviously unfair. The UFC had this coming for a long time. On top of having a complete monopoly on North American MMA broadcasting, the organization has also been extremely unfair pay-wise to its fighters. It says a lot when Francis Ngannou, one of the best in the sport, opts to switch to boxing instead of renewing his contract with Dana because the pay is significantly higher. Not to mention the way that fighters like Mighty Mouse were intentionally sidelined to make way for more "charismatic" competitors. The way UFC pays and promotes its fighters needs to change if it wants to attract interesting performance athletes in the future

The end result will be half the UFC roster being cut, particularly the nobodies that fight on the early prelims and fight night prelims. Those fighters will then be forced to resign from the sport, or accept lesser pay from one of the competing promotions. The only reason veteran UFC fighters make more money when they leave the UFC for a different promotion, is because they already have an established name thanks to their time in the UFC.

Interesting thing to note: After this antitrust ruling went into effect, it was rumored this week that WWE employees might start seeing pay raises as a way for WWE (which is the UFC's soon to be new corporate sibling) to avoid getting lumped into the same legal woes the UFC is now dealing with. So Endeavor is currently trying to save their asses on whatever fronts they can.

Even if the class is granted, they still have to win the lawsuit. All this ruling does is allow the lawsuit to move forward. They can say "billions of dollars" all they want; no judge has awarded any money to anybody. They still have to have a trial and prove that the UFC has done anything wrong. In the meantime, these types of lawsuits are typically settled out of court, for an undisclosed sum, and everybody signs a non-disclosure agreement. This is 99% certain how it's going to go, based on every other class action lawsuit ever.

When your product is the talent, and you have essentially a monopoly which makes you the only employer in town, it's not difficult to see that it's not two equals negotiating. A couple things people do not take into account...fighter pay is just one part of the the overall compensation. Two of the biggest things that do not get enough attention are promotion/marketing and insurance or covering the cost of injuries. No way fighters could even come close to the UFC in terms of reach, exposures, ticket sale or ppv buys. Even thought there is not Insure pe say, the UFC has a brand new state of the art Facility that fighters are welcome to come and use during any rehab or recovery time. fully stocked cafeteria, all the steam, hot and cold sauana, pools, weights all it is free to them..

I can't wrap my head around how one trains to be an MMA fighter and pay their training expenses and not be homeless on these 12/12 contracts. If they did that and spoke with their actions about how they take care of their fighters, the fans and the fighters both would be singing the praises of Dana White as the sport's savior. I want the UFC to stay as the unquestioned elite promotion for the sport's sake, but the fighters being taken care is how they stay on top and keep attracting the top talent

When Tito and Dana went at it everyone was clowning on Tito because his wife worked in adult entertainment but I was like, 'nah man hes got some really good points.' I remember super early on even fighting amateur bouts where I had to cover most of my medical bills. When I came out fully on Tito's side I lost a lot of friends in MMA. Legit yelling matches because they thought my mindset was a cancer that would keep us and anyone I was associated with out of the UFC and big promotions forever.
