True. But from the Q&A video they did with this channel, they really don't want to go down the rabbit hole of supporting every OS configuration imaginable so they went with a spin of Debian they forked in house as the one they officially support. It remains to be seen whether or not they have installed any anti-customer BS like efuses that would impact any potential RMAs should you swap the boot drive with something else. One question to be asked is will they offer the OS install on these machines on their site as an ISO or better yet a Github instance?

Tbh man, as my (way too long) conclusion says, the system doesn't feel finished right now and therefore I cannot make a recommendation based on this ore release prototype (no one should!!!). But I would say that they (UGREEM) DOES seem legit about this. I saw 4 (technically 5) software updates on the month I had this device and it got better and more optimized with each update..but it still ain't 'there' yet. If I was in your shoes, I'd probably back this. But I would maybe hold off till a few more reviews arrive. I've been chatting to a few other KZbinrs and we all have the same thoughts (give or take). Good hardware, but the software needs more work (shout out to the @thetechnotice and @wundertechtutorials reviews that I believe are on the way v soon, and another bigger that I'm not allowed to mention the week after). Bottom line man, I'm getting good vibes from this product.. but it still needs more time in the oven!

Hi Rafael (10/10 NAME BTW... RIDICULOUSLY JEALOUS). Sorry I am replying here, I saw your email but I couldn;t reply as I am traveling and my email server is restricting me. I was in the office earlier (before running away to a support job for a colleague) and measured up the system and shipping container for you (the shiny retail box is like 2mm less in each dimension than the shipping container!) Retail Box: 37.5cm x 26cm x 27cm System: 25cm x 17.8cm x 17.8cm Regarding weight, that was a bit of a problem. I am currently letting a couple of U.S based KZbinrs access the system for their own reviews of the software and when I got to the office, it was painfully obvious that they were in the middle of recording something (stock or actual review content - the ultrastar 10TBs were buzzing away and the network was ABLAZE!), so I couldn't move the system to some wall scales in another room. I would say though that the system and PSU itself is approx 3-4KG (5K with the drives) and retail kit probably brings it to around the 8-9KG mark. Apologies for the vague numbers. The retail package DOES state the product dimensions...something I discovered AFTER measuring it manually (LIVID!!!), but zero mention on the retail kit or container about the weight and ti was shipped alongside the DXP480T unit and some packaging materials, so the DHL shipping label would be vastly inaccurate! Hope this helps man and I do hope you enjoyed the video and article.

Thanks for this. Not sure how I missed the boat about that 40% discount but that alone has gotten me very interested in this, so it seems I have less than 24 hours to decide if I want to pull the trigger or not. For that price with that hardware, I'm considering just getting the 8 bay and sitting on it a while until I can get good prices on drives and give them time to sort out the software etc. or reverse the decision about voiding the warranty if you install another OS. It's completely unusable for me without Docker anyway, as I do everything with Docker Compose.

Can these NAS drives be used for storage and play of 4k UHD Blu-ray Discs? Would I need additional hardware to stream it over my home network through the newest Apple TV? I am quadriplegic and can’t change discs without help so this device could be very helpful and freeing for me. Thanks for reading.
@BoraHorzaGobuchul8 ай бұрын
Any network-attached storage can be used to stream video, including 4k, to media devices. Now whether it works depends on the chosen method (which is the video format - disk image, or a rip), the network setup you have (particularly at higher resolutions/bitrates), the method of playback - playback by media device such as Nvidia shield/Android tv box/apple tv from a file stored on the network, or playback by media server running on the nas device, and for the latter - direct play from network device which requires better network or transcoding which requires more CPU performance and works best when there's a GPU/a CPU that supports stuff like quicksync. E.g. I use Nvidia shield for playback on my tv, files are stored on my Synology Nas and some on my PC, 1gbe Ethernet connecting devices, alternatively there's wifi as backup and it also works well. Not watching bd images/remuxes but watching bd rips up to about 50 gigs in size without issues via Kodi. Conversely, jellyfin didn't work out for me because the older Synology I have is too weak cpu-wise to transcode the files without uncomfortable delays.

@nascompares8 ай бұрын
ALOT to unpavkere here. Ok, so 1, if you CAN DiY it (skillset, time, availability), go for it. It's more rewarding and also allows greater gains + savings. But the UGREEN (if they nail it) has the potential to be the best alternative out there to this for the price. The software (and indeed the system) isn't aimed for retail till well into the summer... So UGOS and the system optimization might be a different ballgame come July/August. Cannot tell. Also, re: 3rd party OS support in conjunction with h/w warranty, I'd comfortably bet that they will change their stance on this when the crowdfunding starts and the comments section rolls in!

I think it's the power use, the N100 is (comparatively) comically lower than everything else at the moment. If you want to just have extra storage attached to a desktop pc or Mac, you could consider a DAS. Google QNAP DAS units. They generally connect via USB 3 at 10gb speeds. DAS generally cheaper than NAS. I'm not saying the NAS won't connect to the Mac though, it's just that being cost conscious, and enjoying mocking Mac users, I am not familiar with Mac

You can use a Peer to Peer Connection. But you dont will get a faster Speed with this nas as is Shown in the Video. SATA is Limited to 6GB/s. Magnetical HDD are even slower. So you Need all SATA SSDs or if you Need the Full 10gb, Switch to the nvme Modell.

I was interested in the 4bay or 6bay options... The 3dP OS capability does not look important compared to their inability to provide delivery to some countries on the planet *apart from two (2!)*... That, also coupled with a strange KickStarter-only nice price, looks like another blatant cashgrab, like several other KickStarter projects. This is definitely not befitting a company with more than 10yrs presence on the market - it creates a bad precedence for their future product lines and it is a valid reason for many people to stay away .

I got my DXP4800+ a few days ago (as of this post) and while the default software looks more polished, I'm now struggling with network speed issues (facepalm). Latest software version is not helping. Goes full throttle for a few seconds, then it drops to a crawl (kb/s) I may have to give a 3rd party software a go at this rate. But I knew what I was getting myself into, so it's just annoying, not game breaking xD Can't say the same for innocent people who only wanted an off the shelf experience though.

Companies shouldn't keep trying to reinvent systems. Would have been relased quicker and less expensive without their custom software. I would be happy with Ubuntu server with ZFS. But would be overkill, so I should stick to repurposing old hardware I suppose. I worry about the Drobo situation if they kill this project. Wouldn't be great running out of date NAS software.
