As a bachelor what doesn't know much about baking and who's been hit pretty hard by the quarantine, didn't have much to work with, but managed to make a single serving of this by just eyeing the ingredients from the video, 4 mushed up raspberries and a spoon of seedless blackberry "jam"... Made this today for Mother's day, won much kudos from the family and Mom! Sister said it was crumble-icious. Thank you Chef John! TIP: If using frozen fruit-- wait for the berries to thaw, then drain as much as possible. I didn't do this and I drained about a cup of liquid the sugar made from the berries and also lost some of the lemon flavor. secondly, I didn't bother to grate frozen butter. Instead I used a pastry cutter and then refrigerated the butter/dry ingredients until after lunch and then assembled. It's all good.

Chef John, I recently came across this recipe, and I’ve already made it on three occasions in the last two months! It was a hit at every dinner I took this too. I agree that this is the ULTIMATE berry crumble. I plan to modify the recipe for peach season coming up soon! On one occasion, for health purposes, I substituted 1 cup of flour with 1/2 cup almond flour, 1/2 cup coconut flour, as well reduced it by 1/3 cup sugar and it was still joyously tasty without sacrificing flavor. I enjoy watching all your videos! Thank you for your gifts to the world and all the laughs!

Thank you for sharing this crumble recipe; I've been on a recipe search for something like this for quite a while now. Just a heads up to anyone out there who is cutting way back on sugar ( like myself ). Try Monk Fruit Sugar instead. You should only need to use maybe a half a cup of it for this recipe. Maybe a touch more. It also seems more concentrated. ..so use less. It tastes just like regular sugar. And no weird after taste; like sugar substitutes. I bake with it all the time now. But using it sparingly ... so the recipes stay in the healthier range.
@lynnleavitt4784 жыл бұрын
I had never heard of it so I Googled it and found out it isn't really sugar, but the extract is a sweetener, and 150-200 times sweeter than sugar. It also doesn't raise blood sugar levels, so it's OK for diabetics. Thanks for your comment.

I made it and it turned out delicious! This is my first time baking any crumble and I used fresh blueberries. But when I added the blueberries to the baking pan, it didn’t look like i had the correct ratio of fruit to crumble, so I added frozen strawberries right from the freezer and just drizzled the remaining cornstarch and sugar mixture from the blueberries on the strawberries. It turned out so amazing! I’m actually glad I added the strawberries because the blueberries didn’t have much flavor. I also used self rising flour and skipped the baking powder and salt. I also used salted butter since that was all I had. I also skipped the cayenne because I don’t like anything spicy. I will definitely try making this again with raspberries and blackberries. And will try this with apples with cinnamon and nutmeg. Thanks!

I know we are "the captain of our Tennille" or whatever, but I love the berry part and instead of 3 generous cups of berries, next time I would put in 4 to 5 cups of berries. This recipe is definitely a keeper. Thanks

If you blind bake the bottom a bit before you add the fruit, it's more gooder. A little rum added to the fruit, is even more gooderist.
