Update: my gaming content will be on my 2nd channel: kzbin.info (some LotR related gaming videos will still be posted here on the main channel though) Should you have more questions, feel free to ask here in the comment section :-) PS ( from 20th February 2019): I never expected, that this video would get 50000+ views! This video started really slow back in the day (when my channel was a lot smaller) and blew up one day. Thank you so much for the support and all the nice comments. I'm also happy, that I could help some people out enjoying one of my favourite game series :) Also if you have questions, feel free to ask, but post a new comment. It's often really hard to see new posts, when they are posted as answers/replies to existing ones. The only way for me to find those is by accident or YT pings me, which doesn't happen reliably.

how can ı get stamina isn't there any item or something or just with upgrade endurance? for knight i'll be pleasure if ı can take a respond
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
@@hitoshiki176 really sorry for the 2 month late response. Sometimes YT does not ping me, when people answer to existing comments (posting a new one reduces this risk; also in my new comments list, it only shows new comments at the top of the list, but no new answers to comments). I assume you found it out already. Yes, you increase your stamina pool only over the Endurance stat. There is one Ring, that increases Stamina too Ring of Favor and Protection in DaS1 (is destroyed if you take it off, so be careful), First/Second/Third Dragon Ring in DaS2; Ring of Facor in DaS3). Another way: you can increase your stamina regeneration with items. There is a consumable item (Green Blossom), a Ring (Chloranthy Ring) and at least one Shield (Grass Crest Shield in DaS1 and 3; DaS3 has multiple items for this like the Blossom Kite Shield). All of them stack.

Sorry to take your time but I have another question. Do you recommend a controller or Keyborad - Mouse when playing DS3. I just ordered a xbox360 controller but im wondering if i'll do better with a controller. Game's menu isnt helping at all.
@ThePhilosophersGames7 жыл бұрын
No problem :) Yes I would recommend a controller. In its DNA Dark Souls is a game designed with a controller in mind. Not sure how DaS3 plays with mouse and keyboard, but DaS1 could be considered a challenge with keyboard an mouse compared to a controller. Maybe if you are super used to playing it with mouse and keyboard and never used a controller at all, this could be different, but in my opinion using controller is the best way to play Dark Souls.

I just bought DS3 and I haven't been this patient and frustrated by a game since my Wii. I love how the souls games don't hold your hand. After I died a couple of times by the first boss in DS3, I wasn't mad but tried different things, 1 hour passed, and finally I killed him and it felt great. It just feels great having a game that is so different and more difficult then most other AAA titles. And DS3 is a game I feel I can finally put lots of hours in, trying to beat the game, master it, and try different playstyles. The last game I've put more then 1000 hours in, is Skyrim because there are so many things to explore and the replay value is great. This year I've finished the main story of God of war 4, AC Odyssey, and RDR2. But after the main story I just felt about done. In DS3, I don't feel as the hero, the chosen one or not even as a good guy. I feel weak, and I love it.
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
I know that feeling and I agree. That is what makes Dark Souls great. I also have the same problem with many other games: I play through once and then I'm done, but I played through the Souls games countless times, trying all kind of builds and challenge runs, etc. There are only few games that I replay that often (and most of them are my favourite games of all time). Dark Souls is one of them ^^

Happy you found it useful :) Souls games (except for Sekiro, but it's not 100% a Souls game) have the habit of not telling the players what is going on and letting them find out alone. Thank you too for taking the time to comment and I wish you a ton of fun with Dark Souls 3. Be careful on locking your soul lvl. The further you go the more harder it becomes to find the help or pvp. Unless you have arena unlock on Ds3 (so on) it will become harder to find online players. Take time out and look at the measure of the scale that it takes to find certain lvl summons. Yes you can always make a password (depending on friends/clubs) but unless you have someone on stand bye it still becomes harder to find others beside that one individual. There are 3 that I have found which is lvl30 and lower then 60-80 for mid and then 130 for meta. even with your lvl it also depends on how much +3 or so equip. Do the research because it depends and the time on how much is playing and able to help you.

No problem. I guess it depends. Some people enjoy figuring everything out themselves. I don't spoil anything in this guide, but explain some mechanics and give some hints, which can make a game series, that can be frustrating less frustrating. Parts of the Souls games' difficulty lies in the player not knowing things. Players can be afraid to e.g. use upgrade materials. Then it's good to know, that e.g. you can usually farm them later in the game somewhere or even buy them and upgrading weapons is really powerful in this series, etc. Veterans also often wish to forget everything they know, so they can experience exploring the game again ^^ I wish you a good time with DaS3 :)

@@ThePhilosophersGames I'm sitting at the create a character menu trying to decide what kind of build I want. But when I KZbin builds, it includes info I'm not familiar with, so I guess I need to find what weapons and play style are best for me before I get into specific builds.
@ThePhilosophersGames5 жыл бұрын
Probably too late, but start stats are not that important. At the end of the game with all addons you are probably around level 80-100. That are a lot of skill points, so youc an go for what ever build you want. My suggestion: find a weapon you want to use (play some time, so you have a good selection) and get the stats to use it. You can also go for 40 strength/40 dex and you can use most weapons anyway. Also you can respec your stats in Dark Souls 3 (also in 2), only the starting stats (of the class) can't be changed.
@r1pperduck5 жыл бұрын
@@ThePhilosophersGames yeah I figured with the options of building, if i wanted to strictly pvp at 120, go for the club and wooden shield. But I can just spec into whatever so I went with thief because I liked the mask, and I get a bow lol. Plus the dagger is actually pretty fun.

Thanks for this vid! Some weeks ago I rage-uninstalled DS3 due to frustrations with the first winged knight after some hours. Knowing about I-Frames and Rolling maybe would have helped. No problem, I hope it helps and that you try it again. The Souls games are great games, but as you say you need some time to learn it and patience (and a high frustration tolerance). Regarding dlcs, you will most likely never find the dlc area in ds1 on your own unless you actually look it up and follow a guide, and following this topic, for some reason, I think i-frames don’t exist while fighting knight Artorias, it’s one of my favorite fights in the souls series, and I could almost swear that you can’t I-frame your way out of that fight, I think it’s also the same for the penetrator in demon’s souls, as in if you roll in the direction of his attack you will take damage as soon as the rolling animation is over, which means you have to roll out of the way to successfully avoid being hit, idk if it’s just me.. but seriously tho!
@btchiaintkidding7837 Жыл бұрын
in ds1 , most of the bosses or enemy attacks have lingering hitboxes, so if u dodge right into their sword after they atk and physically contact with their weapon you will take some damage as one would expect. so your direction of dodging were important probably more than just the timing of your dodge. and i liked the lingering hitbox in ds1 and i am sure i am the only one. in ds3 dodge/combat roll is for namesake only it is basically a glorified "gimme i-frame" button, just spam forward dodges and if u time right u will even dodge nukes or dodge through literal wall of fires and whatnot. i am surprised that it took u to reach artorias to realize this. lots of early game enemy/bosses have lingering hitbixes too, example: taurus demon, u have to move outta his attacks, some atks will still partilly hit you if you dodge into them usually ground slam attacks

The katana has a red X on it symbolizing its damaged. Can someone explain to me how to repair damaged weapons
@ThePhilosophersGames4 жыл бұрын
Yes maybe should have mentioned it in the guide (maybe I did?) The red X means that you don't have the stats yet. You can still equip it but you can't wield it well and you do bascially just like 1-5% of the actual damage. Strength weapons have an interesting mechanic in this regard. E.g. you need 15 strength for a weapon, but have 10, you can wield it two handed (Triangle/Y button) and now can wield it, because wielding a weapon two handed modifies your strength by the factor 1.5 ^^ That however does not work with Dexterity weapons like Katana. The Uchigatana from that guy needs 11 Strength and 16 Dexterity to wield. I hope that helps.

22:30 - "normal enemies stop respawning, after you have killed them about 15 times" I'm just starting out, so dying fairly often - while learning some tough fight, or other, in a level. Does this mean that a level will just get cleared if I fight to the boss fight around 15 times? Does this also mean that I shouldn't be re-clearing a level, as I try to get back to a boss fight? As the enemies will get stronger, if I kill them too often and go to a bonfire??? Sorry if I misunderstood what you mean - I'm pretty new to the Dark Souls series.
@ThePhilosophersGames3 жыл бұрын
No problem ^^ This mechanic only exists in Dark Souls 2 (it could also be only 12 times, but round about that). Normal enemies of an bonfire-area stop spawning after killing them 12-15 times. They don't respawn stronger (for another 12-15 times killing them) without you actively doing something (burning an item called Bonfire Ascetic at the bonfire of the area). This also respawns the boss, but boss and normal enemies respawn as if you would start NG+ (after completing the game) so more damage, more HP, etc but you also get more souls. You can also do this multiple times, but I think after NG+7 enemies do not get stronger anymore. Usually players start running through the boss at some point and skip enemies on the way at some point. Some might not be safely skippable, so you have to kill them and they might not respawn. That is not unusual thing to happen if you are stuck at a boss or die a lot in a level. it also can make a level easier. Yes it is possible that there is a level with no enemies as a result if you keep re-clearing the level on your way to the boss, but as said they won't respawn until you use a Bonfire Ascetic. A side effect might be that you also won't get souls for levelling or buying things anymore in this area if that happens or if you constantly lose your souls in the boss arena and die one time on the way to it, they are gone. When now the enemies are gone too, you maybe can't level anymore in the area with enemies that are "on your level". If that makes sense. I think it's usually not a problem. And you can respawn them (as tougher versions that give more souls) anyway, but keep this in mind.

happy you liked it ^^ Yes it's always a risk, but ofc powerful and some people can get really good at it, other struggle with the timing. It's not necessary to learn though. It's also very different from game to game. Dark Souls 2 has often a very difficult timing, that requires predicting the attack. In DaS1 you could often do it on reaction. DaS3 felt like a mix between the two and in BB it's also really strong.

So far I've died 43 times on the first boss (yes, I counted). I hate this game just about as much as I love it...
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
That's dedication. I think Iudex Gundyr is a very good, but also very difficult first boss. What starting class did you chose? The only advise (if you want it, else just skip the rest of my post) I can give is, experiment a bit with the tracking of his attacks. By moving precisely you can avoid all his attacks (let's say some of them quite easily, some are more difficult) without even rolling. This can improve your fight a lot. Don't attack him too much if you have the opportunity, maybe just attack once (the safest way). In his final form it's very difficult to differentiate his attack animations, but if you rotate "behind" him, he has a hard time hitting you in that form. And if you still struggle: Do 2-3 attempts of just dodging his attacks and think about if there is enough time for you to attack, but don't do it. Just fully focus on dodging until you die. Ofc you have to get into the 2nd phase at some point and learn to dodge the new attacks too, but this helped to learn beating even the most difficult bosses without taking any damage at all. Good luck on your playthrough. If you have further questions, feel free to ask.
@GordonGEICO6 жыл бұрын
You've probably (hopefully) already killed this guy but I figured I would comment anyways... Something to add (to this reply and the video) is something that wasn't really covered in the video: target lock on. In general, it's helpful (like on smaller enemies and bosses) but it can also impede you. So if you are dying because you are out of position or missing with your attacks, try making sure you have the target locked on. It does restrict your movement somewhat as it forces you to always face the enemy, and on very large enemies, you might not want it enabled. Sometimes the hardest boss in the game is the camera. And just to reiterate what ThePhilosphersGames said, try several attempts without attacking, only rolling and/or blocking. Nearly every enemy telegraphs nearly every attack with some kind of signature and in DS3 you can roll a lot without running out of stamina if you don't attack. Blocking can drain your stamina really fast (especially if you turtle) but it will indicate which attacks can be blocked effectively, so it's still useful as a learning tool.
@vladmitrache63734 жыл бұрын
@@GordonGEICO That's precisely what I was doing wrong. DS3 is my first Souls game and I play on PC, so I had no idea about how to lock on to target. The moment I found out about the Q key, the Iudex fight got a lot simpler. I still had to die twenty times or so, but it got better with every new try. Just lock on and dance around him, wait for the breaks in his attacks to heal or hit him. You can also lock off and get some distance (before he transforms) to heal, but be ready to roll because he'll probably use that jumping attack on you. Also, especially in the second phase, watch out for that ledge as you can easily fall trying to avoid his attacks since he's covering much of the screen and it's difficult to tell where you are.

This can help, if you manage to deal with his start. But at some point you should get enough souls anyway. Also upgrading your weapon is very powerful. Titanite Shards and Large Titanite Shards are not that hard to get. I assume you are playing Dark Souls III. There the upgrade progression is much more tied to your progress, than in the other games. So you have Large Titanite Shards at best early in the game. Maybe putting down your white summoner sign to help other players with their boss and practice a bit can help too, to get some souls. What is your third boss? You have actually some options here (I think you can actually do 4 bosses as your third boss in DaS3; In DaS1 and DaS2 even more).

Yes from that point on the difficulty amps up a bit for sure. Usually increasing your damage output is helpful, but this is sadly a bit limited in Dark Souls 3, because the game is much more linear compared to Dark Souls 1 and 2 (upgrading your weapon is as a result a bit gated). In addition increasing survivability helps too.

That must be one of my characters in New Game Plus (NG+), that means after you complete the game you can keep your character (equip and levels, you only lose key items) for a new playthrough where all enemies are stronger. I started with cleric on dark souls 3, i was always promancer and eased into enchanted warrior in DS2. Now in DS3 I'm still early game but I'm leveling him up to use a luthern, something I don't usually do. I'm hoping a faith based weapon enchantment is a thing later??? Cleric is cool because If your dodging instead of blocking you can heal on the go without using flasks, offhand it has a slow but very filling health enchantment. It was a rough start but I found some good farming locations. right now I have a light healing worrior, But i really want thunder knight.. Even though some places are too hard, I like that the game gives me other options to farm, or upgrade when exploration get too frustrating. Then when I burn out those options I actually have to challenge myself to challenge that bigger guy I've been avoiding. Toturial level was torcher, but I found it was easier just going for the actual boss than the other guy in the cave.. which opened up options.
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
The ability to heal can definitely help. Yes in DaS3 there is a faith infusion. Actually there are even multiple options to add a faith scaling. Ofc with some up and downsides, but they are there. If you stumble upon an item called Sage's Coal, you unlock the main faith infusion, using blessed gems. Good luck and have fun on your further journey :)

Had to take a break, was almost rage quitting. But I defeated the 2nd boss with raw mace. I actually beat him the 3rd try, but getting there the first time was a pain. I sure hope that faith infusion shows up soon. I still have no idea how poise and Dodge really works in DS3, I got it right away in DS2.. but I have some success positioning my character out of the way while getting in the enemies face.. so then I was like, "screw shields and armor, use both hands naked". I haven't used my titanite I've been saving up, hoping to save it for something awesome. I have too many raw stones so I'm just getting by with raw weapons. The 2nd boss also seams to be easier than the minibosses walking around. What the heck
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
Sadly in DaS3 the higher Titanites are tied to game progression. So you don't get Titanite Chunks until you reach a certain area, that usually comes relatively late in the game. For the Third Boss (aczually also for the 2nd if I'm not mistaken) you have multiple options, what boss was your third boss? Titanite Shards and Large Titanite Shards are not that uncommon, so you don't need to save those (at least you don't need to worry about shards early on). Later you can also farm Chunks. Oh poise in Dark Souls 3 is messed up. The poise stat only influences your "hyper armor". So some weapon arts have a short duration where this hyper armor gets active and during this time (called hyper armor; it's a term from fighting games) you have the potential of not getting get staggered/hit stun. So poise only affects what weapons can stagger you during this time during weapon arts.

Then I killed the big armored ice frog. Then I kept dieing at the fat knight who walks in circles, screw that guy. I'm gonna use my little titanite bits I've been hoarding (8x) now that I have the necessary Dex and strength to even use my luthern, scared to waste it on raw infusion.. Long reach, can't wait to test it. After I blow off steam. The more I die, the more anxious and desperate I get, which just causes more mistakes.. then I start yelling.

Sorry for the late answer (I was not home for a few days) A red cross (bottom left side where the weapons can be seen)? That means you don't meet the requirements to wield it. What weapon is it (in which Souls game)? You can also see the requirements in the item list (yo can expand it for additional information too). Additional hint: two-handing a weapon increases strength by 1.5. So two-handing allows e.g. to wield a weapns that requires 15 strength with 19 strength. But When you switch back to one handed you can't use it any more.

@ThePhilosophersGames5 жыл бұрын
Infusions depend on your weapon and build (they usually have a disadvantage and advantage). One adds e.g. lightning damage. If you only play a standard strength/dex build, I would check the damage values for the refined, heavy and sharp infusion. You can check the damage values in-game too. Refined reduces base damage and adds Strength and Dexterity scaling. Heavy reduces base damage and adds Strength scaling Sharp reduces base damage and adds Dexterity scaling So if you are looking for better base attribute scaling, they could be useful. Lightning in contrast reduces base damage, adds lightning damage instead and a Faith scaling to a weapon. Lightning damage is quite good against many bosses in all Souls games, but it can still reduce your total damage output, if you invest into other stats, that are not covered by it. Here's a planer: soulsplanner.com/darksouls3/weaponatk And here the infusion list: darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Infusion

So is dodge rolling throufh an enemies attack just not a thing anymore in dark souls 2 remastered?
@ThePhilosophersGames6 жыл бұрын
You mean Dark Souls 1 remastered or Scholar of the First Sin? However in all Souls games (and versions) *you can* roll through enemy attacks and the roll will grant you a couple of invulnerability frames (s), so you will take *no* damage (only AoE attacks can have some exceptions). In all versions of Dark Souls 2 the number of s is tied to a stat called Agility, that you increase by putting points into the Adaptability attribute (or to a lesser degree the Attunement attribute). At 105 Agility you have 13 s (in a fast roll). The lowest s (Level 1 character I guess) are 8 s, which does not sound like much less, but makes a huge difference. In all other Souls games you have about 12-15 s in a fast roll (60fps).

I assume I meant, that when you get the DLCs for the Dark Souls II vanilla version (so not the Scholar of the First Sin version, which came later), you get the different keys you need to access the DLCs directly into your inventory upon unlocking them and starting the game (there 3 DLC keys and each DLC needs one of those 3 specific keys). If you get the Scholar of the Sin version of Dark Souls II, the 3 keys must be found in the game as treasures. PS: I made this video some years ago

If you buy the Scholar of the First Sin edition, the 3 DLCs are always included in that, so they are simply part of the game due to that. PS: this is quite interesting. Now that i thought about it for a moment. Long explanation incoming ^^ I think it's a mixture of my "regional" German accent (it's not really considered a true accent - it's "Ruhrdeutsch") and a little anecdote from school, when I was very young. I remember pronouncing "weapon" this way when I talked to friends about Final Fantasy VII in school (the game has those optional large boss enemies called weapons and they were also called "weapons" in the German version, So the term was not translated) :D I was like 12 and my English was not really good back then. I think me and my friends always pronounced it like wep'm. That's how this pronunciation got in my head. But there is more. So in my region we have a lot of contractions of words (compared to Standard German) and sometimes letters change a bit when words fuse together. Like an "n" mutates to an "m", as in this case. A semi good Example "We got this" in German (bit of slang, but a common phrase in my region) is "Das haben wir" (the order is words is different "This we got" with "haben" is more like the English "have"). In my region we would say: "(Dat) ham-wa" ("a" in German is always pronounced like in "father"). So ("das" becomes "dat", "wir" becomes "wa" and) "haben" morphs into "ham". I assume, I unconsciously did exactly this with the word weapon. I never noticed, but it's quite interesting. So thank you for mentioning it ^^

I think you may have heard the "o" being dropped when learning the word because the "o" isn't really pronounced properly when people say it. It sounds more like an "i", think of "wepin" instead of weapon".

It actually sounds like how many Americans pronounce the word, I've noticed there are a few other words to " important" sounds rather American too. This is very common with none native English speaking people. Great video and thanks for the information.

I just finished elden ring ng+ and bought dark souls 3 today. I was never closer to destroy everything in my sight. I swear to god this game is beyond frustrating. Why would you not have the jump on a single button? This is endlessly annoying, as well as the camera and auto target which both do whatever they want and jump between several enemies. I really dislike how you "jump" down 1.2m and get fall damage already and the recovery time takes like 20 mins even without any equipment. Not even interested in trying this one out and certainly not worth my money and time. Elden ring was fun and a good challenge but not to a point where the fucking gameplay is so slow and boring

Welcome to Dark Soul - it hates you ^^ Elden Ring is a step forward from it for sure. But from my perspective I never really missed the jump button, because there are only very few places, where you need it in DaS3 and friends. It's not designed around the idea of a jump comparable to Elden Ring. Ofc you have that mini jump since Dark Souls 1 that only works from sprinting and usually adds a roll to it after landing, which can be stopped in DaS3 though. I think one thing that might be missed by ER player is also the heavy jump attack from ER, but that is to be fair a fairly OP mechanic in ER and gets far too much focus, because it's far too good. Though Dark Souls also has a small jump attack (forward + Heavy Attack; basically same as the Kick just with the Heavy Attack). Fall Damage in Dark Souls 3 is actually quite generous in comparison to e.g. DaS2. Elden Ring was the game that was ridiculously generous with its fall damage, but ofc it helped the gameplay and open world. When I play Elden Ring I often struggle estimating if I survive a fall, because 2500 hours of the older Souls games have taught me how deadly gravity can be. But not so in ER. In the older Souls games being able to survive falls from such high distances is also not needed to the same extend, because there is no open world exploration and DaS3 is also far more linear than DaS1 and DaS2. The game only consists of classic levels, carefully crafted around the idea that some places can only be reached when you progress further through it. It's a different approach in that regard. While in ER even Legacy Dungeons (which are closer to the classic Souls game level design wise) are often designed around the idea of the ER jump, with exceptions. I can see how all this is a shock after playing Elden Ring first and Dark Souls 3 plays different compared to ER in man ways, but to be fair it's also the same a lot. The older Souls games feel even more clunky than DaS3. However one complaint I can't share and that is the fall damage recovery time. That is by far higher in Elden Ring without using bugs like the great bow fall recovery cancel, because in Dark Souls you can roll when you land and cancel the fall recovery animation completely. So just spam roll before landing. This feature they removed in ER and I absolutely hate it there. Fall recovery takes ages there in comparison, at least when you are used to roll when landing 😄 PS: camera was always terrible in Souls. Elden Ring improved the camera a bit, but it's still trash and I say that as somebody who loves ER and has 1000+ hours in the game.

"The most difficult is the sorcerer" what about the depricved
@ThePhilosophersGames7 жыл бұрын
At least in DaS3 the Deprived is not as bad. Maybe the first boss is a bit more difficult, but the club is a good weapon and with all stats at 10 you have a lot of options after a few level ups (you get several from beating the first boss) and can play him like any other class. Armor isn't that strong in DaS3 anyway ^^ In DaS2 deprived is quite difficult. You have all stats at 6 and without a good weapon and ADP the game becomes really tough. In DaS1 you don't start with level 1 and have again the club, which is a good weapon. Also in DaS1 you can get very easy very good weapons.

ThePhilosophersGames what platform do you play on if you're on ps4 I'll add you
@ThePhilosophersGames7 жыл бұрын
No problem :) I play on PC. I don't have a PS4, but sometimes I borrow one from a friend, that's how I played Bloodborne. Maybe if Death Stranding is really really good, this could change :D But now a days most games are multiplatform anyway and I'm only interested in few PS4 exclusives (matter of personal preference), but I have to admit the PS4 line up is pretty good right now.

ThePhilosophersGames yea, but the pc line up is really Good and at least I think pc gets xbox exclusives.

This guide boils down to: Know how to defeat bosses Know what the stats do Know what the weapons buffs do and what are the best infusions There is no RIGHT WAY to play it Feel good bro! And every generic "be yourself" crap with 0 usable actual information. You are qualified as an online life coach! You know? Telling people that if they want to be successful, they must stop being losers. If they want to be alpha males, they need to stop being beta males. If you want to get girls, you need to make yourself attractive to girls. If you want to be smart, you need to stop being stupid. If you are homeless, just buy a house!
