Thank you! I like the concept, but the pricing doesn't make sense. If the cost took in consideration existing M365 licences that include Sharepoint, then I would look into it, but to spend more $ doesn't make sense at this time. I will continue to monitor the progress in this though!

Fair point! The extra cost, in my opinion, is due to AI being involved, which takes more resources than "normal" SharePoint.

Intresting. Thinking of using SPE as backend cms for a public facing website with bunch of video/audio content. But I am not sure about graph api authorization, and content delivery stuff 🧐 Is it even possible using only SPE or even SPO? Or creation of additional infrastructure on top of that will be inevitable? I am talking Azure Blob storage + CDN + “publisher” app (from spe to blob storage) 🥴

It's possible with SPE, but I don't think it would be fast enough compared to traditional methods. SharePoint isn't very fast when it comes to storage and retrieval. If you need blazing fast speeds, I'd go straight to Azure.

What about metadata on the documents? Is it possible to create columns as we can in an ordinary SP document library?

Yes! Custom metadata is supported, although I don't believe it includes 100% of the column types we have in "normal" sharepoint

Running into kind of the same Access Denied error you did. Weirdly, i uploaded a word document and that worked fine. I followed it up with PDF document and that hit me with an access denied. Tried both via the M365 search interface and straight up copying and pasting the webURL from the upload response payload. Same deal both ways.

I'm not really knowledgeable about the implications of granting additional access at upload time, but I can see how that may be problematic. I didn't have issues after that one upload error, so I think it's just an issue with the demo. If anyone has information about it, however, please share!

Great question, Joe! SP Embedded isn't a front-end, so you could say it competes with Dataverse, but not power pages. Even then, Dataverse does way more things than SPE. If you need file storage and nothing else for your front-end, go with SPE. If you need tabular data (list) support, Dataverse may be a better option for you, since SPE doesn't support anything but files.

SharePoint Embedded is also the storage for Loop Workspaces and Pages and for Msft Designer - afaik :)

Absolutely right! We've all been using SP Embedded and never knew. That's the entire point, in my opinion. The benefit of an SP-backend without having to deal with the interface. Wow that sounds kind of negative, but it wasn't my intent 🤣
