As a Scot, I'm always glad when someone from America gets our humour, the accent can be quite a barrier, but I've also watched several American reactors now watch very Scottish centric comedy like Still Game and really get into it. I think you're right Mike, a lot of UK references might be lost on you at the moment, but if you keep watching the panel shows you'll start to pick up on them 😊 Thanks for giving Kevin a go he's a solid comedian on stage and on shows like wilty. ❤

I think his accent adds to the humour, being a Glaswegian his accent can be hard to pick if you're not used to it. One of my best mates moved to England from Glasgow with his family and came to our school - he was one of the funniest kids at school. The way he would tell stories and his accent had us in stitches, he would also put on a really thick accent and do impressions of his grandparents talking about things that would have us in tears 😂
@davidfairweather3301Ай бұрын
Very much agree. I was born in England but most my family are Scottish. My school friends found it incredibly hilarious that my family were Scottish. Every line of dialogue was apparently unintentional comedy to them 😂 I live in Scotland now and there’s something so great about Scottish humour.
@chrismacdonald7955Ай бұрын
I was born in he same place as Kevin (Glasgow, Scotland) Now live in Canada and I can assure you that his accent isn't as thick as you think. He is talking quite slowly for a Glasgow guy. If he spoke at Glasgow speed, you MIGHT pick out a word here and there. 🤣

This was Kevin Bridges big break. He had been touring comedy clubs and had been received well but after this TV appearance he became hot property, started appearing on comedy panel show and soon moved up to playing massive stadia show. Some else mentioned how Billy Connelly recognised Kevin as the heir to the Scottish King of Comedy crown and in many ways this performance also mirrors Connelly’s appearance on the Parkinson chat show in 1975. Connelly went from having a very local following in Scotland to being a massive star, literally overnight. Connelly describes arriving back in Glasgow the day after being on Parkinson and being applauded and cheered in the street. Those of us who saw the Kevin Bridges performance went from wondering if this young Scottish comedian, billed on this show, was going to be any good to knowing that we had witnessed the dawn of a massive comedy career.

Great reaction to a very funny guy. Could i suggest that you give the Scottish comedy "Still Game" a look. Judging by what i've seen from your channel so far i think you'd absolutely love it. It's a mixture of hilarious comedy and very light drama. Becouse it runs for 6 series it takes an episode or so to build the amazing characters in the show. If you'd like a taster it might be good to watch an episode from series 2 first and then decide if it's something you might consider doing. I know comedy is all about opinions but it genuinely is one of the most amazing shows i've ever seen. Keep up the great work guys , it's nice to see you appreciate our great comedy from this side of the pond !

@nickbeer2658Ай бұрын
Here's a suggestion for you - especially if you want to see how you get on with English accents: "Jethro - don’t stop Camborne Wednesday". Jethro was a comedian from my part of England (Cornwall) and his delivery is well - unique! It can open up a rabbit hole of new content for you. It's old school, silly and often crude language is involved. He was the biggest selling comedian on DVD in the UK but rarely appeared on TV (though when he did it was memorable). This is one of his favourite gags about being on a train and discovering it doesn't stop where he needs to get off (Camborne in Cornwall). He died a couple of years ago of c***d and when he did the rail company changed the signs at Camborne station to "RIP Jethro".

I don't know if you believe in the Supernatuaral or not. I am going to tell you how I got my Nickname. I don't wear anything in Bed and I am a very light sleeper. One night about 2AM I woke up when I heard the Bedroom Door handle turning. I was lying on my left side so I half opened my left eye. I saw Three Vampires coming into my Bedroom. I slowly slipped my right hand under the Pillow. and grabbed the wooden stake I keep there. As quick as a flash I sprung out of Bed and stabbed the nearest Vampire in the Heart and killed it. I spun round and killed the second Vampire. The third turned round and ran out the Room, I chased after it. Down the stairs, along the hall and out the Front Door. I caught up with it and killed it half way down my Street. On the walk back to my House, I saw Six People on the Street and they told everyone what they saw. THAT was how I got the Nickname, 'Bare Buffy The Vampire Slayer'. Can you believe that?🧸🧸

British and especially Scottish, get MORE out of the performance. We pick up the inflections and nuance. Our best comedians have unspoken depth to the joke. Even with a look. It's cultural.
