If I remember correctly, the neo geo could only actually shrink sprites and couldn't actually make it any bigger than its original size (although it can shrink things in reverse to make it seem like it's being zoomed in)

@@PlayerOneStart -you’re very welcome. I can only imagine all the effort you put into making these episodes. I actually learned some stuff I never knew about the Neo Geo from you and I saw that others have as well. That’s huge since youtube is one big echo chamber usually. Awesome!!!

Neo Geo AES is possibly my favourite system ever. I play it all the time. The quality of its best games is astounding. A lot of the cheap games are of poor quality and many people buy these and don’t really experience what the system was truly capable of. Thankfully there are still some reasonably affordable games available. King of Fighters titles in general aren’t too pricey and offer ridiculous depth and therefore long term value.

I learned some things about the neo geo today, i always thought it was the z80 and the 68000 why they called it 24bit. Good ole neorage X

Yeah, I think Atari's "Do The Math" campaign made me think the same thing for years.

If that was the case, the Genesis would also be 24bit :)

I thought that too and thought only the magazines were calling it 24bit. SNK would of sold more if they just told us its 24Mhz.

TLDR the Neo Geo only has one tile layer but can have 1536 sprite pixels per scanline or 4.8 time the horizontal resolution so it typicly does paralax using sprite based setpieces in the background

Imagine if SNK was still around the next NEO GEO would have four Nvidia 3080 GPUs and run Blender Cycles in real time.

i had a neo geo when it was relevant... The two most expensive games i ever bought and owned are KOF94 and Samsho2 (Both around 450 Deutschmark each). SNES games for comparison where like 90-120 DM...

Fantastic video the Neo Geo AES pack quite a punch on the technology side of things but for $649 and the damn thing doesn't even have stereo audio you had to wait for the Neo Geo CD to get that had stereo audio my Turbo CD and Sega CD maybe that's the reason I still have those in my collection and no Neo Geo looking forward to the games

Yeah, it’s been fun discovering this system. The games are where it counts though, that will next time. 👍

Hi Player One Star. I just have a question but before anything, thanks for all the review videos you made on the Neo Geo. About the first generation of Neo Geo in the US, I mean the white box with the orange strip (Neo-AEC), was this rental version only distributed in the US? I have seen these rental systems around just a few times, very rare to find these specially in the original orange stripe box. So the questions is, do those also had the FCC ID label on the bottom of the console like the US Gold System had it? Also, I know the rental system in Japan had the green stripe, but, was there also a rental console in Europe and what version was it, (US NEO-AEC or Japanese Neo-0)? My point is to find out if the US orange stripe version Neo-AES also had the FCC ID label when it came as a rental system before the US Gold System. Thanks in advance.
@PlayerOneStart2 жыл бұрын
@ner38073, thanks. Glad you are enjoying the Neo Geo review. That is a great question. I don’t have a clear answer for it as I don’t have one of those systems. As far as I know, the rental only system concept didn’t leave Japan. As when they released in the US, they went directly to sale. In Japan they were rental only for the first part of its life. But that doesn’t mean some of the early units couldn’t have been intended to be rental only systems.

@@PlayerOneStart Thanks a lot for your reply. I ask this because in my effort to buy a US Neo Geo, during the last two years on ebay I have seen two Neo-AEC models (US version since it had the AEC and not the O on the bottom label) on ebay. They were complete in the white box with the orange stripe reading Neo Geo AEC. Both boxes had printed on the side SNK Corporation of America, Torrance California, something like this. But one had the usual FCC ID label the US gold system has by the serial number label on bottom of console but the other did not have it. The one that did not have the FCC label was a very low serial number, I remember in the 4,000. Both had the English instruction manual and both with the pro-pow-ul ac adapter 110v NTSC. I know all US gold system neo geo consoles have the FCC label by the serial number but I was wondering about the rental AEC orange stripe version. I just want to know before next time I jump in and buy the orange stripe AEC model. Let me know if you might have more to say. I have been doing a lot of research already. Thanks in advance.

Theoretically, would it be possible to embed a hardware 3D accelerator into an AES cartridge?
@Senhordaverdadeabsol2 жыл бұрын
well...they did it for SNES and Genesis, If there is a market interesting it is possible. AES was so much niche thing and normal carts were already stupid expensive, imagine the cost of it when adding a poligon calculator to them.
@alaeriia012 жыл бұрын
@@Senhordaverdadeabsol Yes, but I have an AES and an EE degree and want to do something extremely unholy.

Don't see why not they did add a chip to the cart to handle larger amounts of memory.

The NEO•GEO only put out progressive scan, no interlaced. Why aren't you using the front stereo output to get correct stereo sound? You're missing out!!
@IBEBIGRAY3 жыл бұрын
So instead of having four layers of parallax scrolling like on the SNES or two on the genesis to make moving backgrounds! The neogeo used Three sprite plains made of only sprites!! So basically everything on the neogeo is made up of sprites!! Now I see why the neogeo used the most sprites of this generation! Because without them there wouldn't be any graphics!!!! This is great because u then could animate many of the backgrounds since sprites can be animated!!!!!

Yep, honestly makes me think about all of the tricks programmers had to do to get games to show up on the screen back in the day.
@atomicskull64053 ай бұрын
It had 1536 sprite pixels per scan line, 4.8 times the screen width. The hardware was based on earlier Alpha Denshi arcade boards that used similar sprite strip hardware. Alpha Denshi actually contributed a lot to the development of the Neo Geo for SNK.

Don't have one, hardly ever see PAL NEO GEO AES consoles. Also the games are very expensive and almost all are available for the Switch. A lot of the games are boring fighting games anyway...

Yeah, its hard to find a NTSC-US console as well (mine is from Japan). I know there are a LOT of fighting games, I may find one or two that interest me, but I am also curious what else I'll find... :)
