I will agree with you on the 180mm f/2.8. I only shoot it with my F2 or FM2, and while using it for event photography, I was shocked by the close-ups I was able to shoot of performers on stage. Also love the 35mm f/2D for the price!

Thank you for making great videos with lots of real usable information. I have several lenses you've recommended and love them all! The 180 mm 2.8 is just fantastic and I love it so much. Also the 300mm f4 ed af, I'm shooting with it today and it is incredible. It actually produces larger images on my d500 than the Tamron 18 to 400 in the same position. Strange but I'll take the extra distance, either that or the 18 to 400 is really not even 300 LOL. Anyway best of luck to you in 2020! Thanks for the great recommendations

There is another youtuber who is a pro, many years of experience, images for Cosmo etc and a portrait studio. He is highly skilled in lighting and makes suggestions as to how to save money. His recommendation and one lens he is using at home for portraits - Tokina 100mm 2.8 for Nikon. Priced right, sharp, great contrast. I bought this based on Ken's recommendation and haven't looked back. From a value standpoint, very tough to beat.

The 70-300G VR was the 1st lens I bought after buying the D90 kit in 2010 and is still in the camera bag 14 years later, I have bought a 180 2.8 AF , 60mm 2.8 AF (both pre D) and the Tokina 100mm 2.8 after watching these excellent videos.

Yea its 7 years later but i really appreciate your information on lenses, ill have to look into some more of your videos for more info. The first items i bought was a smaller bag, my dream camera the D850 because im not really interested in mirrors less because i think they are just too expensive right now and there are tons of F mount used lenses on the market. The 50 mm Nikon lens, and the 70-300 mm that you recommend for now also a aluminum and carbon fiber tripods. I have some equipment from my D300 sett up and a heavy huge 300mm lens that i might sell. Would you recommend getting the battery addition that mounts to the camera if you really only take landscape and portrait photography? Thanks if you could respond

You are right about bird photographers using the 300mm f/4 for years but the new PF lens is not just a little faster but much faster. I was glad to upgrade even with the higher price tag. Speed is huge with small warblers flying all over the place and never staying still. Keep up the great lens reviews.

My 400mm f/2.8 is the go to lens for wildlife but it never comes off the gimbal headed tripod. The 300mm PF is perfect for light travel, Florida boardwalks, boat photography, and any wildlife that I need to shoot handheld. It stays in the passenger seat ready to shoot when driving through state and national parks. When ever I have time to set up, the 400mm comes out. It is my money lens and has the best rendering of any super telephoto I have ever owned. I built my career around that lens. I would add that the 200-500mm is a nice handheld lens but I just couldn't handhold it through a 12 hour day in the field. It is big and bulky and wore me out after a long day. This was compounded when travel shooting on location for 10 days straight. It was replaced by the 300mm PF with teleconverter on the D500. All day every day with no fatigue issues. Nikon has gone from last to first in the last 3 years and I am happier for it. Still waiting on my D850 from B&H which was ordered at 8pm the day it was announced. Geez! No worries though since I still have (2) D4's in the stable. Thanks for your camera and lens reviews.

Ken, discovered your channel a month ago, 8/15/22 and am hooked. I have a Sony 7iii body and use my vintage Nikon/Nikkor lenses adapted. Love them, but boy, do I get skewered on the Facebook Sony photo groups for not using Sony lenses. Why replace mx collection of good lenses with way overpriced native lenses..my very first two Nikkor lens is the 55mm 1.2 and 50mm 1.4 and still love them. Just purchased a Nikon 500C F8 on ebay for $172 with original case, caps, paperwork and beat out 39 other bids. Waiting to receive it. Hope I made the right purchase.. Thanks again for your insightful recs. Love your sense of humor but mostly love your reviews.

After watching this great video I went and watched his video the other day just to see how bad it was (and it was bad) and in the comments there were references to "Ken" etc...but today...nada...nothing...like this video never existed as a reply to that terrible one..so not only is the video and content and information bad, but any saving grace that points people here through youtube comments have been purged just like bad reviews on the other site....gotta love that and this is still the best source anywhere

The focal length of a 105 compared to 85 I prefer however don't want a massive long glass if walking through the streets what would you suggest? 85 carl zeiss although manual focus, 105 nikon macro D lens, 80-200 f2 (for complete range more for portrait work not street) or just buy 85mm 1.8 G lens and enjoy a light okay 85? a big message but hope your the guy to help.

I have a question> I had my D800 and 70-200 stolen and need to replace the gear with insurance money. I am not a professional and like to shoot a little of everything. Im a family guy shooting, Kids sports, vacation pics, landscape, ect. I can replace with the new D500 or the D810. I own a 24-70, 35 1.8DX and, 50 1.8 and MBD12 battery grip. If you recommended one which would you choose. And the way the insurance works cost will be the same. FYI i own a olympus omd em1 with a 12-40mm and I love the size however the poor battery life kills me and shooting sports its not so good. and I just enjoy tcontrols of a DSLR. more.
@yucannthahvitt2517 жыл бұрын
Sports? Ever shoot birds or other wildlife? If so D500. D810 if you shoot landscape more than sports, otherwise D500. D500 is faster, has superior AF, is lighter, has articulating screen, better video. D810 is better in low light, better if you like to go W I D E because it's a full frame sensor...

Im so sad I picked the 135 DC 2.0 long ago cause it was longer but it is sharp. I have never used the 105 version. Is it that much better?
@kathodosdotcom7 жыл бұрын
hehe, dont be sad, i own both, both are EXQUISITE and perfect for portraiture!! the 135mm is better for stepping back and getting subject issolation anyway, so in that respect its better than the 105 anyway. :) much better? nooooo, both are awesome

Ha! Thanks. I feel better now. You are such a gentleman. I love my 135mm, I will stick with it.
