@kevind55083 жыл бұрын
Quick tip. Run a thin cutoff disc on a grinder around the base of the king pin. Cut in about 3/8s of an inch to cut the rust on the flat. A little heat and a few ugga duggas and they come right out. Learned that the hard way lol nice work on that axle

I first started watching Matt and his road rescue show. On one of his shows I saw you were friends. On this video I see you are from Glendale. I'm from Hunt, Texas and spent 2 summers of my high school years working for my dad's uncle Whit MacDonald. His ranch was on the corner of the intersection of the road to Alton. We baled and stacked hay as well as dug the irrigation ditch across the meadow at that intersection. Also you or Matt mentioned going to Todd's Place.The original owner Todd was friends with my dad and Whit. The ranch just south of Whit's was owned by Graham MacDonald. These guys were brothers to my Grandmother. I also have many relatives in St. George and Hurricaine. Small world. Enjoy both your shows. Great work.

If you're wondering why the king pins are tight is because they are torqued to 600 ft lbs. Paul didn't torque the replacements to that. The torque wrench for that level of torque is a nominal $1000. Basically you don't go to harbor freight to get a torque wrench. This is Proto or Snap On type tools.
@tychlg3 жыл бұрын
$79 3/4" Neiko digital torque adapter is good up to 750lb/ft. Used one on Dana 80 Pinion nut, seems like the most cost effective way for occasional use when the additional length isn't a problem.

A trick to get the king pin out is to take a cut off wheel and cut right above the inner C into the pin. Just cut a groove not all the way through. This will release the pressure.
