Great video well worth the wait! Diesel is getting so long it's crazy. The Gaboons are my favorite to watch strike. Tyler Nolan posted a video a couple days ago where his Gaboon struck so hard, it blew one of it fangs off. It is so cool to watch. Can you tell where the Gaboon is looking? Their eyes are so strange. I have never seen one in person. Do they look at you? Can you tell they are looking at you? Is it hard to keep them hydrated? Thanks Willy!!

Does the Gaboons eye's recess when they strike almost similar to the bushmasters scale that lifts in order to protect its eye, it's just when I was watching them strike ( I say watching more of jumping backwards ) I was just wondering if that's the case
@VenomCentral2 жыл бұрын
We are noticing that a lot of things with the SLO MO including the supralabial scale or eye shield raising up - so its something that needs a study or research to prove the theory but great catch! We have seen it too.💪

Ive seen another documentary that claims a gaboons pupils will dilate rapidly and they shift their eyes trying to mimick some kind of small moving treat for prey and pull them in to strike range.
@VenomCentral2 жыл бұрын
They tick tock back and forth rapidly, and like the caudal lure of the tail of an agkistrodon baby, or the tongue of a snapping turtle-- it's the bright color and isolated movement that brings in it's intended prey. There's a great research project!! Anything that's an unproven theory makes a great topic for research but most PhD candidates are thinking life-saving topics. We're always up for interesting, if only we had more time! Always great comments! Thanks brother.

If one had the room it would be pretty cool to see a tank built that has a water feature on one side possibly a waterfall to partial rock mountain the fall comes off of to a small river running g through the front or half n half then in one spot a dirt and rock hill that has a couple hides built in and some live plants all over for that outside vibe and then the hides have on the sides a window so ya can see em but it doesn't hurt the whole hill and u can also pull the window and get the animal out and have a couple hides slots u can block the animal in the hide also to clean the tank out

If we had the funds to put in plumbing, drainage etc it would be very cool. But water has a way of creating bigger problems down the road, best to keep all the critters needs pools in a separate area and all together for ambient humidity sake! Great thoughts though! Hey brother I’m curious to know what your feeding schedule is for sub adult gaboons and adults. Some say once a month or twice a month. Also would love to know where you purchase your gaboon viper Antivenin. Thank you and love the channel can’t stop hitting that like button. 🤙
@VenomCentral2 жыл бұрын
I feed my Gaboon vipers Every 4-6 weeks for the adults and a little more for the sub-adults, but I really don't keep anything on on a constant schedule, I feed on a "broken" schedule... Sometimes they get more, sometimes less, similar to nature. Times of plenty, and times that are lean. I kinda just look at a snake and determine if it needs to be fed or not. Also, I keep a stock of Saimr polyvalent for African species. It's produced by SAVP - you can google it and they have a website with contact info. (As long as you can import and have your BB-IND. Thanks so much for watching and supporting the channel! Glad you enjoy the videos 🙏💪👍🐍💯

I've never heard the term "west african" applied to gaboon vipers/adders before...they're widespread across africa, and can be found even here where I live on the east coast of south africa. we just call them gaboon vipers (or adders). seems odd!
@VenomCentral2 жыл бұрын
It's the taxonomy, that split them into 2 species. It used to be 2 subspecies- East African Gaboon Viper was Bitis gabonica gabonica and West African was Bitis gabonica rhinoceros. Now the taxonomists have decided that they are 2 distinct species. Thanks for watching and sharing your story! 👍🐍💯🙏

If it's good to move prey while feeding them, why not just live feed?
@VenomCentral2 жыл бұрын
Variety of reasons, I feed whatever I feel the snake needs at that time. If they are in need of a good hunt and a boost to their psyche, and I have the appropriate prey size available, they eat live. But live rodents are expensive and I am very unlikely to buy pet store rodents that I have no idea if they're free from the nasty stuff that they transmit. There's also the fact that they are a formidable opponent and some snakes will suffer bites etc and not fight back against a fiersome rat. I have an entire playlist live feeding, if you're interested! I appreciate your support and thanks for watching! 💪👍🐍💯🙏

@VenomCentral2 жыл бұрын
Several reasons for feeding/using the prey items I do. Safety of the snakes is #1, whether it be from the rats teeth or the ability to successfully breed rats or get live rats that are clean and the sizes I need, without spending 25 each. I do what's best for my snakes, not what gets views, but I do share live feeding videos when I have them. There's an entire playlist on my channel. Most of them are for research so they're even timed for venom toxicity and fatality of prey. Thanks for watching! 💪👍💯🐍

Every single interaction with venomous is different. There's certain behaviors that are similar enough to collect data but there's no room for complacency ever. Never been bitten. Never had an escape. Safety first! Always. Thanks for watching!
