Nice rig! Currently using the Shinobi & Kondor Blue with my a7S III as well. Going to play around with Alister Chapman's -2 LUT since I shoot S-Log3 and never end up overexposing enough. lol What LUTs do you typically use with your Shinobi?

out of curiosity, what makes you say that the a7siii is a better slow motion camera?
@GKnow20102 жыл бұрын
Yes I was wondering the same thing. I thought the specs were the same.
@rusticrivermedia47552 жыл бұрын
I can answer this question for you. It's because the A7SIII has a 1:1 pixel readout for full frame 4K, so the slow motion footage appears sharp without really any aliasing or moire. The A1 by contrast has a wonderful 8K image that's downscaled from 8.6K, but the full frame 4K is pixel binned unlike the A7SIII's 1:1 pixel readout. As such the full frame 4K is susceptible to aliasing and moire in shots that have fine lines or patterns and can also sometimes seem a touch softer than the non-pixel binned 4K from the A7SIII. The A1 does have a great APS-C crop mode that isn't pixel binned and is instead downscaled from 5.8K, but then you're shooting in Super35 crop mode rather than full frame, plus you can only shoot up to 4K 60p in this mode because the 4K 120p requires the pixel binned full frame 4K mode. As such, the A7SIII has better slow motion options since its full frame slow motion up to 4K 120p is natively 4K, not a pixel binned 4K. That being said, the A1 is still a phenomenal video camera that has beautiful 8K, really great Super35 4K, and a full frame 4K option that still looks really good overall.

A7 and a1 are both great cameras, but a1 is more capable camera for slow motion it has a Faster shutter speed. Both cameras do 240fps but the a1 does it with a 50m that's double what the a7 has. Great rig by the way 👏🏻.

Hey, I’m thinking of getting either the A1 or S3 for video and did want to do some slow motion- what makes the S3 better for slow motion ? Also have you had any issues with the A1 overheating ? Thanks
@CamtasticRide2 жыл бұрын
Digging your setup. I am currently shooting with an FS5ii and prefer my Shinobi over my Ninja V or shogun from a weight perspective, it also sips power where the others guzzle and gulp. Ive been using Phantom Luts from Joel Famularo and absolutely love the results. If you haven't checked them out, I'd suggest you do so.
@AustinBlackvideo2 жыл бұрын
Those LUTS are essential for any Sony shooter

Thanks for the review. I'm about to get the a1 and already own a7SIII. I would wanna know if you can use the crop mode x1.5 in 4K@120fps. I know it's possible in 24-60fps but 120fps is very critical for wildlife videography to me for both filming extremely tiny creatures or birds far in the distance.
@csturg2 жыл бұрын
Do you think the A1 will eventually get an update to record 120fps and 8K in ProRes RAW with the Ninja V+?

Hey, what makes the A7S3 a better slow motion camera than the a1 ?
@AustinBlackvideo2 жыл бұрын
The a7siii has a 1-1 4k readout. When you switch the a1 into 4k slow motion, it does pixel binning in full frame. You get better results out of aps-c mode in 4k on the a1. The a1 primarily does best when you shoot 8k
@GKnow20102 жыл бұрын

Hey Austin! I recently sold my a7s3 and purchased an A1 and as much as I love the overall package of it Im really missing that clean low light 12,800+ something about the a7s3 had a more "cinema" feel to it. Kinda wishing I had went fx6. Just looking for opinions not sure if I should just sell the A1 and take that loss. :/
@AustinBlackvideo2 жыл бұрын
I think we have a disagreement over the camera then. The image I get out of the a1 blows the a7siii (my b cam) out of the water. 12,800 base ISO is far too high for me if I’m lighting my scenes. 4,000 is a much more usable high base ISO. The ability to shoot 8k, S35 4K, and taking world class photos is huge. I definitely prefer my a1 over the FX6 personally
@trogdor2 жыл бұрын
@@AustinBlackvideo I’m considering selling my FX6 for an A1 as well. While the FX6 makes serious filmmaking super accessible and has great features I’m finding the workflow can feel cumbersome. I agree that have a lower high base ISO would be more convenient especially when filming with faster lenses.
@AustinBlackvideo2 жыл бұрын
@@trogdor The only real downside in my eyes is that the a1 has a more difficult codec to edit with, so a proxy workflow becomes somewhat necessary in 8k
