In America, the average student takes about 4-8 *years* of Spanish through middle and high school, if they choose Spanish as their foreign language class. So it's quite common for people to learn Spanish, at least in the US. But it's impressive for someone to learn it, completely from scratch, like Anna did

5:40 Recording yourself naturally speaking (or reading) is great bc you can review it so find weak points and then see progress over time. There‘s a technique called the 4-3-2 method where you (or a group taking turns) pick a topic and then speak nonstop for 4 minutes. Then, you say the same content but condensed into 3 minutes, then 2 minutes. You do a little research just beforehand if you need talking points. The 4-3-2 technique forces you to A) Speak B) Rehearse the speech C) streamline the speech. The 2 min speech will be much more „fluent“ than the 4 min!

Keep in mind, for all language learners in general: Ask yourself why you want to learn a language. It's always important to know why you are wanting to learn as it can greatly affect how you learn and study. If you are wanting to learn a language because you are fascinated and intrigued by the culture than you'll have an easier time learning. But if you want to learn a language to be praised, a polyglot, or cool, you may not truly be interested in what your target language is and that can make it very difficult for you to study and learn. Whatever reason you have does not have to stop you, but, you must understand your desire in order to cater towards it. Recognize it's not gonna be easy, check on yourself as whole and evaluate if the energy is worth it. You do not want to burn yourself out, so take time to think about these things. Im gonna guess a good amount of you are doing this for fun, it's a thing a lot of people love to do. With that said, do not forget that it's something you are doing for fun. If it's becoming a chore and the interest/motivation is gone, then take a break to either find a new motivation or halt. Unless your reasoning is crucial that you must put up with it being difficult for when your no longer interested, there is no reason you should stress yourself out over it. It's okay to not know languages and it's okay to take breaks. Ya ain't gonna learn quickly. There is no correct time period to learn something and there are no expectations. Especially if you are just doing it for fun. Do not beat yourself up if you didn't learn it in the time you thought you should have. It takes people years to learn new languages and even longer to master it. Pace yourself and be kind because it's not an easy thing to do. If it takes you 10 years then so be it, at least you didn't end up feeling awful after pressuring yourself to do something for 2 weeks straight.

I grew up and still live in an area where Spanish is spoken by at least 1/3 of the population here, and this number seems to be increasing. People who speak Spanish and English are more likely to be hired here as I have seen and noticed over the last 15 years. I decided it was time to try to remember what Spanish I learned in High School and build upon it, so this video is greatly appreciated. Thank you. I'm extremely rusty in what Spanish I remember and honestly I didn't do very well in Spanish class in High School lots of years ago. Thank you to all the Spanish speaking ladies and gentlemen who are so patient and helpful to those of us learning Spanish. I always feel very extremely shy and scared to speak Spanish to others. I feel I make so many mistakes and my face burns red, but thank you all for your patience with those who are learning Spanish. Any suggestions on how to not be so shy when speaking Spanish as I really want to learn Spanish, so I can use it in my community where I live. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

1:33 That depends, I'm from Peru, and we call the bus "micro", but if someone talks about a bus, or a autobus, it is perfectly understood what they mean. Most Spanish speakers understand each other, even if we vary the words, or use dialects, the official word will always be there.

Starting to learn Spanish this week and this is one of the best and detailed videos I have seen. When learning a new language people say you need to immerse yourself in the language and sometimes it’s hard to know what that looks like. You gave great examples on how to do that. Thank you for this information.

Hi Anna! Your ultimate guide to learning Spanish is incredibly comprehensive and helpful for language learners like me. I appreciate your emphasis on dialect and accent choice as it adds authenticity to the learning experience. Prioritising speaking over other skills is in line with my own language learning style. I've found that immersing myself in speaking practice has sped up my progress and increased my confidence in using the language. Your study methods and tips are invaluable. I've tried similar techniques in my language learning and they've been incredibly effective in improving fluency and coherence. Also, your recommendations for incorporating Spanish into everyday life through apps, podcasts, KZbinrs, singers and TV shows are fantastic. Immersing yourself in authentic content is the key to mastering a language. Thank you for sharing!

as I native speaker I can say that the most easily thing I think is the pronunciation, because it sounds how it is written and almost never changes the sound, a thing that doesn't happen in English, because if you learn the sounds of the lyrics, you will can pronounce, and read well, and there you can start to study, because that will help you with the learning, the most difficult: the conjugations of the verbs

Hi Anna! Learning spanish right now for when I go to Spain in 5 months and I loved this video as it has really helped me out a lot already - but I am considering buying Damon's course but I am always apprehensive with spending money haha, I'm wondering why you love his course so much and why it is effective compared to others

I can highly recommend watching live streams on twitch/youtube in Spanish. It's of course advanced Spanish, but the interaction in chat allows you to write, listen and converse at the same time, and you can get a lot of context clues from whatever activity they are streaming.

So even if I don’t understand anything I’m still learning?
@EusebiusAT
@EusebiusAT 2 жыл бұрын
@@kirstenanderson3783 no, you of course have to understand something, but it doesn’t have to ne much. If you can read a bit and if you have some basic vocab down, yoy can infer a lot of what's being talked about by reading chat, and that in turn helps you sus out the meaning of some of the words you hear. Additionally, if you're watching something you like and are interested in (video games, news, politics) you have extra insight that helps understanding + you can develope a vocab for tge things you're interested in.

@EusebiusAT 2 жыл бұрын
@@styles7237 It's been a while since I studied Spanish for real, but I sometimes check in on this Twitch streamer called Karim. He talks about a lot of EU politics, which means I'm familiar with the topics and can follow conversation. He also has regular youtube videos on politics, bit that's of course not everybody's cup of tea. I'd recomend you just search for topics you like in spanish, and then you should find something.
