Steve My Honda dealer sold one of those to me years ago and recommended Tri Flow lubricant. It is the best and lasts a long time. It worked the best on my Suburban rear doors. Many people are using it for gun maintenance. You have the best videos. Thank you.

I've been a mechanic for 37 years and had no idea this tool existed, though if I thought about it, I would assume someone invented it already. This is gonna change things for me not just for lawnmower cables, but bicycles, too. Reading what I just typed embarrasses me, but live and learn. Thanks, Steve.

Me too! As soon as I watcher this, I ordered one from Amazon. I guess most woukd buy them for motorcycles or bicycles, but mine will be for my lawn tractors and self propelled mowers. One of the neatest gadgets I've ever seen. It just arrived today so I can't wait! Lol

Love it. What cable lube do you recommend Steve? Thank you.
@jothain
@jothain Жыл бұрын
Love these. But it's worth mentioning that there are some lubricants that actually swell the plastic liner and hence damage cable. It's quite rare and can't recall the product, but I ruined one cable in short time because of that. Now I tend to use stuff like PTFE lubricants that don't affect plastics. So all-in-all. Remember that some oils can degrade some plastics fast.
@stevemorris3710
@stevemorris3710 Жыл бұрын
WD40 maybe, that destroys plastics, and is terrible as a lubricant anyhow.

I've Been An Auto Mechanic 50 Years. I Worked For Volkswagen And Audi Dealers For 33 Years. Back In The 80's When I Was At Volkswagen We Got One Of These For Lubing The Manual Cables For The Heat And A/C Controls. Even With A New Cable Sometimes Customers Said It Was To Hard To Move The Levers In The Dash Control Pannel . . I Use To Put The Straw From The Can Of Spray Grease In The Hole And Lube It Up. It Worked Great.

I honestly think ot was you that recommended one of these to me, but I already knew about them years ago working on Motorcycles and snowmobiles. They work great and highly recommend them. If the cable is too badly rusted, it doesnt matter what you do, that cable is toast. Still a great suggestion. If the outer sheath is bad on a cable, replace it.

Hey Steve, I did that to my three wheelers and four wheelers when I had cables on them and I used creepy oil. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of that but it’s an oil that creeps. You can spray it on the bottom of a bolt and it can have a nut on it and spray it on the very end of the bolt and it will creep its way up into the net works really well good stuff great for lube and your hinge pins in your doors in your house and your locks, whether there are deadbolts or key locks both of them it works fabulous for that stuff just a pin drop or will do the hinges just put it at the top of the engine, open the door and shut it and it’ll take care of the squeak

These are called "pressure cable lubers" These are very common in the motorcycle world, especially vintage bikes. I learned about these as they were in the maintenance schedule of a motorcycle I had - had to figure out what it was in order to complete the maintenance item!

I saw this luber on Mustie 1 years ago and I just had to have one. Works super well with cable lube from PB Blaster although any lube is better than no lube. Mower cables left out in the weather often have rain water go down the inside of the cable cover and silently causes a metric ton of corrosion / rust. Joe

I haven't used one, last time I used patience and an oil can with 10W30 oil. It's a bit thicker but actually works pretty good and for a long time.

Make a funnel out of heavy paper and tape it to one end of the cable. Hang the funnel from a high point with the cable hanging below and fill the funnel with your oil. Let it hang overnight.
