I decided to listen to your videos everyday for the next year in order to change my mindset and undo 19 years of toxic childhood trauma because lately I’ve become completely home bound due to getting older and losing motivation. I’ve done so many treatments to help with anxiety, cptsd, adhd (which you helped me discover) and the most recent I’m doing now is acupuncture that helped me stop having frozen margaritas everyday for a few months. Stopped it almost immediately. Love my acupuncturist and we’re working on other things right now like emotional eating.

Hi Mel, My reward every day when I get up to exercise (walk) is to take you with me. I googled how to reward myself for exercising knowing it couldn’t be a candy bar. Googled said, “take a friend”. Tag, you are it. You are my friend who walks with me everyday. Either I listen to one of your new podcast or listen to an older podcast.

Wow! That was very helpful! Changed my views of making a new habit. I came up with an acronym to help me remember the 3 steps: PAR Prompt, Actualize (making it happen), Reward. Now I am “up to PAR”! Thanks Mel! You are loved in return by so many!

I started working on giving myself rewards for good behavior. I give myself grace and compassion, I used to be very critical, but I'm trying to be better to myself and for myself. I used to accept whatever behavior people gave me. Now I expect better, and treat myself better. By doing this, omg the amount of personal growth is amazing. I'm feeling better, being better.

I have the same problem. Things that other people find rewarding I don’t care about at all. Have you figured out any good rewards yet?
@atee6331
@atee6331 Жыл бұрын
My rewards are intrinsic… and I’m okay with that. “Me” feeling good about “me” brings about an inner peace that is of great value to me. Praying and gaining a greater understanding of The Bible helps to accelerate that peace. This is my reward because there was a time I did not feel good about myself, and I had no peace. Sometimes the reward can be removing yourself from toxic people, which was my case, and it kept me from that inner peace. Best wishes!

You have the most intimate knowledge of your own life - it’s hard to understand how someone who doesn’t even know you can come up with ideas! Sounds like those asking this question need to begin noticing throughout the day something more fundamental - what “good” feels like for you!

I loved what she said '' What is a habit: A habit is something that you do so often that it's automatic. That's it. There's no drama, there's no resistance, there are no feelings involved in it. Habits are something that you do that you even don't think about''

I wish you were here to help me but I'm glad I have you on youtube :) there are many things I want to change, but 2 questions that are bothering me a lot right now are: 1) what kind of reward could we have for a habitual change that is about quiting? for example I want to stop smoking, and I can't imagine an option. 2) how to priorotise when my life needs many changes and I don't know where to start. thank you
@alexandraalbertz1442

If the habits is to stop a habits then that space that took you to do the old habits has to be filled out with something else. What needs the smocking filled for you? Then start building other habits for yout "tool box" to have access to when the emotion that you "cover" with smoking will appear again? We need to think what we add în replacments as just giving up at something still leave a void

I want to completely change my habits,everything,I'm stuck in a rutt,chronic pain and exhaustion, depression, anxiety, ptsd,ocd,I want to change my life trying to stop thinking I'm in pain,I'm exhausted, depression etc,trying to get my confidence back, I'm 55 and I'm scared I'll die before I allowed myself to live so I'm taking baby steps out of my comfort zone,my biggest hurdle is getting over feeling too ugly to be seen in public,I hate what I see in the mirror because it doesn't reflect what's on the inside.

I have changed one small habit so far. I am on my bed by 11 pm. However. I am still distracted by the phone. It's as if I do not want to close my eyes. Obsessional thoughts occur. I do listen to Jason Stephenson's relaxing music. But I switch it off and back on to check various channels on KZbin. I've improved on the habit of listening or watching to some trashing channels.

This is also good advise for parenting - reward behaviour you want repeated. Your child shows initiative, decides to cook dinner but makes a disaster in the kitchen? Don't be mad, command the effort and help with the clean up. The same with a spouse - he bought you a gift that you don't love? React with being grateful. Be a positive person, choose to see the good.

Regarding the example of the dog that gets shouted at when barking at the door. I went through a stage where I would get nauseous every morning (not pregnant - I know what needs to happen to get pregnant and I wasn't engaged in such activities at the time 😅). I kept track of everything from what I ate the night before, the times I ate, my morning coffee time, etc. Eventually realised it was when I started even thinking about getting ready. That was my trigger. For the first time in my life, I was experiencing nausea due to anxiety. And realised it had to do with my job.

Pito- I understand your feelings. I don’t pretend to write to you from some sanctimonious mountaintop. I struggle lately, like I never have before. Want you to know that. 🙂 Remember though, the world is evil, but you are not. You are not controlled by Satan as the world has been. We do not hear about the good , but there is still good. Be part of the good- try to do something for someone - you will see evidence of the good and kindness , I promise. It is HARD , I know. Create one habit in this area as Mel says. Just one. People are mainly good, trust that. God is in control, but Satan is running rampant in minds - push him out of yours with any dangerous thoughts you are having. YOU WIN PITO. You are stronger than your mind - believe that and start with believing that every day! You are LOVE and loved.
