After getting rid of cable and with a cheap indoor flat antenna from Walmart, i would get 6 channels. Saw many of your videos, and was inspired to build my own using your ideas. I built one of these with an aluminum pole and PVC cross pieces, with stainless steel hardware and really looks good...almost looks factory built. Added the RCA pre-amp with all connections weatherproof. I placed it on my deck temporarily (until i can do a more permanent solution) about 10 feet off the ground. I live in Eastern North Carolina, so I oriented it facing west, towards New Bern/Greenville NC, scanned the channels on my TV and right off the bat, got 38 channels! All look awesome, in HD, and better than cable quality. Watching Ohio State on FOX 14 which i never got until now! These antennas work, follow instructions for dimensions. You can choose to use what you have laying around or you can buy most of what you need from Lowe's for about $25 for a basic build. Bottom line, it worked for me, itll work for you.

Hey Danny! I am in the middle of building a Gray Hoverman, and here is something you might want to consider: you can buy Nylon screws in bulk on Amazon. Since they aren't metal they would make great separators between the hats and the antenna. They would also hold the metal down nice and secure and won't rust.

I get about 70 channels with the Gray Hoverman w/ hats. We have two networks on VHF, so the hats are a must. Regular antennas might get 40 channels on a good day.

I recently saw a UHF 'ultimate' type antenna except that in the center of each of its 4 bowties, a couple of inches out in front of each one, was a short director element, about 5" long. That might be an experiment worth testing.

@@southernideas6175 you can reduce the cost of shipping by selling the parts of the antenna. Copper wire can be bought locally and the reflector screen. Which is the most heavy parts of the antenna. You need not lower your profit. Just cost of shipping by removing them two heavy parts of the antenna.

Does anyone know if spray painting the completed antenna will have any negative affects on performance? Not sure if it’s even worth the time, but I wanted to get it to blend in with the siding of the house as much as possible. I love your videos Danny! I wish I lived closer as I’d love to be your assembly guy.

A non-Metallic paint has no effect on television signals. Metal of any type is what affects the performance of an antenna. That is why you want to use as little as possible (screws) and keep larger pieces (like the pole) behind the reflector.

I sometimes get a bit of skipping/tropospheric ducting where I live in Australia. Two different transmitters come into range, one from 200-210km away and another one from 130km+ away, the signals from 200-210km away are sometimes watchable (even for a brief moment) antenna is just off to the side for where the transmitter is, the signals from 130km+ away (signal reflects off the back of the antenna) aren't as frequent as the other transmitter

Best way to tune either of these antenna for VHF-Lo frequencies like channels 2-6 : 55mhz - 88mhz : You want a pair of 42.5in/108cm long copper/aluminum conductors. With Danny's "stick'o'dyno'mite" design:, mount them horizontally opposed above the UHF elements. Sourcing the signal at the mid point of your 7ft+/2.16m+ dipole. In dipole configuration the elements should be spaced 1.75in/44mm apart. With the Grey Hoverman:, Use the two 42.5in/108cm copper (aluminum doesn't bend) elements as the "hats" NARODS. I recommend the opposing S bend _____s-----------------z_____

Doesn't the copper get corrosion and oxidation from being outside? I wonder if a protective material can be placed over the elements. Like what they cover up your driver's or fishing license with.
