The problem with the movie is that the story telling and characters in the games go far deeper than simply cutscenes. It’s those little conversations in the car or climbing that make each character so compelling over a 20 hour experience. Movies don’t really have that luxury

100% agree, movies and shows don't really allow for so much casual dialogues like you have in uncharted or the last of us. As a die-hard fan of TloU, I'm happy they're at least making it a series and not a movie.
@mbank38322 жыл бұрын

true but there's a huge variety of games that take place in just a week of in game time or even a single day. It’s easy to adapt anything. Games are especially easy to make. It’s not that they cannot adapt properly, it’s that they feel they have to damn the adaptation in order to secure a financial payout. This film is utter garbage. It’s an MCU film with a terrible b-list cast. But it’s a hit and will most likely get a sequel. All you need to do is distil the property to an essence. Uncharted is an easy essence. It’s Indiana Jones; it’s Princess Bride; it’s Seven Samurai; it’s The A-Team. How can you not create a film from their essences when three of the four of them are actually films? It’s about finding treasure, quips, history lessons, age, manhood, brotherhood, family and finding family in the wild.

De Niro as Sully like 10 years ago would have been interesting. For me, the hardest sell of game-film transfers is loosing agency. Even in an on-rails, set-piece driven, series like Uncharted I always felt like a part of game. Nate's invisible partner or guardian angel helping him through the challenges set before him. Not having some measure of control makes it less interesting. Then it is just a middleingreboot of Indiana Jones and that is a bummer.

It’s kind of an amalgamation of some of the earlier Uncharted; particularly 2 & 3. It’s a fun movie if you want a lot of slapstick action. Jake I’m pretty close to feeling like you do but a little more on the negative side. I just don’t think this movie was cast well with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in the two pivotal roles. I think Wahlberg probably did the better of the two. Tom Holland was just Tom Holland like you said. I like him as an actor but he wasn’t Nathan Drake to me. There are some cool call backs here and there but most of the movie really didn’t work independent of the license. Some of the choices of callbacks from the games were weird too. It was a middling action movie and a below average Uncharted movie, which if done and cast correctly could’ve been great.Yes.. the Nathan Fillion short was way better I think.

What an interesting point of view, I saw film speaks video on the movie (hadn’t seen the movie yet didn’t really think it mattered much since I know the entire lore of uncharted ) and he pretty much point by point said everything I was already expecting the movie to be, YOU included. An adaption of an action franchise that didn’t (at a birds eye view) put the fan-expected amount of love into it but despite its flaws is just a “cool” movie. Because when you were talking about the characterization of both Nathan Drake and Sully I was like “man I bet he hadn’t seen film speaks video on the movie, if he had I bet his thoughts would’ve been different but only slightly” then you edit in the clip of you saying you just watched the video LMAO. But overall I like your perspective it’s overall the mindset I always go to when watching adaptions. “Absolutely Do NOT by any means go into it expecting the source material, this is its own thing”. I hate KZbin film critic channels with those clickbaity titles that will always nitpick every little thing out of an anticipated movie. I feel like that type of thinking just ruins the fun of stuff. Nolan North’s cameo was also absolutely awesome. Every issue i had with the movie got resolved in the after credits scene. I was like: “oooooh now it makes sense, i wanna watch another one”. Sully got his mustache, his love for cigars, his revolver, it just got better. Oh and my favorite games are The Last of Us part 2 and God of War(ps4). Here's my take on the Uncharted-games, which is a little similar to what you said: While they might be "cinematic" and "like movies", it's that they have a particular feel to them. In that they feel similar to those TV-shows that are also cinematic but have a lot of charm to them because of their setting and characters and what that brings to the table. - The one show I always think of, when I'd have to think of "Uncharted" as a movie, would be 'Firefly'. And that's not because of Nathan Fillion (although he would've been as close to perfect as it could get as Nathan Drake). But it's that it has that same kind of vibe of these characters you know and love, in a somewhat soap-opera-esque setting and dynamic, with everyone having their own quirks, causing some drama and humor with some action here and there, while also a fairly interesting plot that moves everything forward, never knowing where it's gonna go next. It's like that show you wanna keep watching and feel like you're part of and go on this adventure with your favorite characters. - So, really, "Uncharted" should've been a series as well, since all the chapters in the games basically feel like episodes. They just really made me feel like I was going into TV-shows. - So to have this two-hour flick that tries to cram everything in there, it just makes it seem watered-down and more generic. - I haven't seen the movie and might never see it, but the trailer just comes across as some flick from around 20 years ago. The way it looks, the way the actors (of which most you don't know) act, and so on. - It was a hard pass for me right away. - Besides, I'm still of the opinion that the games can just speak for themselves and don't need some kind of adaptation. And, in the end, you can just tell that Sony just wanted to cash in on the brand with some big names on the bill. That's why Tom Holland ended up as Drake, with Wahlberg scooching over because he's getting old. Seriously, most of the comment-sections under trailers and such were full of swooning girls. They surely nailed the marketing. - But it's Sony Pictures being Sony Pictures. - They did this with "Tomb Raider", and honestly, those movies look better to me. I actually like those, even though they're like a different take on what the games do, whereas this "Uncharted" movie seems more similar to the most recent "Tomb Raider" movie that everyone forgot about already (and is apparently still getting a sequel). Anyway, that's my two Euro-cents.

As a fan of the Uncharted franchise, I knew going in that I should expect a lot of changes, well they did not disappoint on that. I did wish they didn't try to put 4 games worth of things into 1 movie which it kind of felt like, because it made some plot points shallow in it's delivery, I especially disliked the overall character connections they had, in the games some characters know each other for quite a while and they felt like friends or even a family for some Uncharted games without explaining it, but the movie on the other hand introduces them not only to us but also to Nathan and made it backstab hell, as if even a cat could backstab you at any moment. Overall it wasn't a bad movie, but as a fan of the games I've saw definitely much more potential of the source material and for sure not enough guns (where's the Drake that commits mass murder and cracks a joke right after it in a cutscene xD), but for someone who hasn't played any of the games I can definitely see people just having a fun evening with an adventure like that. What I did like was how the movie overall looked, you for sure can't deny that video game movies come a long way of how they looked years ago. This just brings me hope that more people will maybe play an Uncharted game + there is also hope for the Ghost of Tsushima movie and the "The Last of Us" series. Still a shame for ma boy Nathan Fillion.

And finally, someone points out Nolan North's contributions. - I mean, yea, he got praised a lot for his roles and talent, but I haven't heard anyone point out that HE makes Nathan Drake. - The problem with Tom Holland is that... he can't touch Nolan North in terms of charisma. - Tommy is too young, he's still building his own personal character, he's still developing his "repertoire", so to speak, and he just comes off too timid. - I mean, Nolan North has a mouth on him. Even with interviews or just conversations he's really quick and witty and will steamroll anyone with his mouth and charisma. Not that he has an ego, he's really nice and all, and so is Tom (although, I worry for his ego with all this attention), but Nolan just has that presence, which is what he made Nathan Drake come alive with, which is also really what Naughty Dog does with all of their characters. And I'll tell you another thing: I once tweeted to Nolan North, forever ago, "Who do you think should play Nathan Drake in a movie?", and he simply replied "How about... me!". - That's so him, and he's right as well, cause he "is" him and what kind of dick-question is that to ask, really. - He might as well have done the movie, as he even looks the part more than Tom Holland. But anyway, to pull this off, you need someone like that (and Nathan Fillion is actually quite similar with that charm, wit, and presence), plus a director that understands how ND does their thing, and not some guy like Ruben Fleischer indeed. - If only we could've had Amy Hennig direct or something.

I’ll say that the movie shouldn’t have used the various set pieces of the game for its action sequences. Although the movie did better than expectations in terms of box office performance and if Sony does decide to greenlight a sequel, I hope they strike a good balance and work on the character development and relationships that makes the games more enjoyable.

Nate is basically an athletic, trigger happy Mr Bean that stumbles his way in and out of danger and that's why I had so much fun watching this movie. Go and make it a franchise, happy to see what the writers come up with. I liked it. It's a good jumping off point and number 2 has to be absolutely bananas, hopefully it includes some supernatural aspects like 1 and 2 did. Usually an uncharted game for me is wondering how the hell Nate got himself in this crazy situation, and how he got himself out, even if it is a coincidental stumbling into position because that's what the games are. The well well well line was funny, but hopefully Nate gets to yell "no no no no nooooo" while watching some huge set piece about to land on him, then doing some charlie Chaplin bit where he trips into some rubble and it shields him completely from the falling debris. That's uncharted to me.

Holy shit no joke I went to see uncharted yesterday and the damn projector broke for me too. They gave us a refund and a free movie ticket so i went back today. I'm freaking out.

I enjoyed it, absolutely! It wasn't the best action movie ever made; shoot, it's not better than any of the games (except maybe the first one but that's excusable). It was no blockbuster, but it was an enjoyable experience. The hype really kicked in when he found the ship and onwards

Better then the first game??? Are u crazy it’s an average action film which are average films most of the time and its an utter disgrace to its source material

Should have been Josh Durham and Bruce Campbell... but glad it's getting good fan reviews. I'll check it out

Movie projectors can break. They are all a big ass machine, that basically downloads the movie during the weeks it is to be shown, and plays it off of that. If the movie downloads wrong, the playback messes up, or other technological things go wrong, the projector can "break" and need to be fixed

As someone that has never gotten the opportunity to Uncharted as mever grew up with PlayStation, I honestly enjoyed the movie. And still await the day to play those games. I assume that Tom Holland's Nate isn't really Nate but I liked it and his dynamic with Mark's Sully is nice. Of course it isn't perfect but I was definitely expecting worse so it was a pleasant surprise. Yeah it get a bit corny and generic but overall dope and charming movie worth the watch especially if your an Uncharted fan. Maybe I'm just a crappy action movie junkie. But I always wanted to play games and this movie made wants to play more and I loved that. BTW Sony nailed the marvel intro 10/10.

“Sully is a lot a things but he is not a backstabber.” -Nathan, first uncharted game. Nobody responsible for the film version of Sully gave a damn.

I’m still scared to watch it, most and if not all naughty dogs games are some of my favourite games to exist. From the trailer it just felt too most like Peter Parker in the uncharted universe

I just thought the point in a uncharted movie was no expand on the lack of development and story in one of the first 3 games

I genuinely enjoyed this movie. I've played all the Uncharted games except for the one where Chloe is the main character and am definitely a casual fan of the game. I do definitely think this is one of the better video game adaptation movies out there.

As far as I'm concerned, Nathan Fillion is my Nathan Drake and Steven Lang is my Sully. I'll watch this one eventually tho

Can't agree more...the movie was no where close to the actual games ...but they really pulled it off with the final stunt sequence... Would like to see more of that

I came into this movie hoping for some fun entertainment, and I got some fun entertainment plus *spoilers* a Nolan North cameo, so its technically better than I hoped.

I'm happy this movie was made, but my dream is that they make a metroid movie, even though personally I believe Hollywood is not capable of making a faithful adaptation

It was okay for a 1.5 hour movie introducing the franchise and the characters. Tom Holland has more of a goofy charm instead of a snarky charm we remember Nate fore.
@DashCourageous2 жыл бұрын
Well you can probably rest assured that Tom Holland won't be reprising the role because I remember reading something where he was complaining about the physicality of the role so I didn't think he was happy with it. So if they did another one he would probably most likely be older and older in the timeline so there is that benefit.

After watching the trailer i was skeptical. But after watching the movie i was impressed. There were casting issues but i wouldn't say they were terrible. Tom and Mark may not be the Nate and Sully i know from the video games, but they somehow made the movie entertaining nonetheless.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD! 😂 that is word for word what I thought. Good, could be better, I'd like to see a sequel. SPOILER ahead That cameo by Nolan was great

Say what you will about the movie, but in my personal opinion, as an uncharted fan, that opening scene with Nate’s ring flying around his neck as he started jumping from box to box doing the same things I did in game is still the hypest I’ve been in a cinema, my friends that I saw it with told me that I squealed when the scene came on. All the call backs to the games as well, postcard puzzle, finding the ships, etc. They hit very hard for me and I do understand that people who have not played the games will probably just think that he’s “just reading postcards” but it just hits different when you’ve read those same postcards, you’ve done that same puzzle. Idk, it’s a lot of nostalgia and hype speaking but I liked the movie.

I'm going to see it today but it looks really fun, I may love it if I realize it's not supposed to be exactly like the game, it just seems like a really fun action movie

As a major fan of the games I think it’s good not great but good. In the 14 years of development with 7 directors I think this version of the movie is better than other renditions we could’ve gotten. Like Sully as Nate’s dad as a big twist. Or his family of thieves with Joe Pesci as his uncle. I definitely think the sequel has a bigger chance of improving if the credit scene is any indication and hopefully a better director with more style.

Sully as Nate’s Dad as a twist? Wtf are you talking about lol that’s some soap opera bs

It's an action film featuring Tom Holland & Mark Whalberg, not an uncharted movie.
