Running 100 Miles....Wow. I never thought I would've been taking on this challenge! This video is about overcoming obstacles, pushing limits, and showing the resilience of the underdogs out there in the world.
Just a few short months ago Nick, Derek, and I had barely run more than 2 miles in a session. We are what you would've considered "non-runners". We lifted weights, we didn't like cardio, and the thought of running sounded like a surefire way to get injured and lose strength. Our curiosity and love for physical/mental challenges sparked the idea to go see how far we could run without stopping. I think It's safe to say that after the first real run we were hooked. We loved the feeling of being outside and testing ourselves. We quickly hit the milestones of 5 miles, 7 miles, 13 miles, 26.2 miles all within the month. We figured we might as well keep the train rolling and try and tackle the next 100-mile race we could find, I mean what's the worst that could happen. This was the Burning River 100, a 100-mile footrace through the hilly terrain of Cuyahoga Valley up in Northeast Ohio. The race was August 22nd leaving us just over one month to prepare. Now don't get me wrong, we are in good shape, Nick and I are former college athletes, and all 3 of us have gone through A LOT in terms of challenges throughout life that have strengthened our mental toughness. This video is the culmination of years of hard work, discipline, friendships, and trying to see what our potential truly is.
I hope you enjoy and take some lessons away from our journey!
Make sure you guys dropkick the like button and comment on the video if you enjoyed...we ran 100 miles for that reason alone so please help us out.

You guys are what ultra running is about. Anyone can run 100 miles with the right mindset and you lot are proof of this. Some see it as impossible and for them it forever will be. I’ve ran 4 100 milers and you guys are out there to show it’s all in the mind

Epic! Way to go fellas. As the saying goes, the miracle isn’t that you finished, it’s that you had the courage to start.

Nice job, Clay! I've definitely had to finish up the miles on my own after missing cut-offs, too. Either way, 100 miles is 100 miles! So glad you had the gear, but more importantly the desire, to take on this challenge!

Nice movie! Good editing, voiceover and filming. I miss a big disclaimer in this video, which I think can be dangerous. As much as I agree that it is grit and mind that brings you over the line in the end (and in your case actually most of the way), I think you should have stressed that there is a huge risk for long term injury that you put yourself into by jumping to such a distance with very limited running experience. Due to your professional sports background your joints are trained enough to take that beating (plus age plays a role) and potentially you were lucky as well ... but an ordinary person that just wants to use mind over body, will risk very serious injury. So everyone seeing this should get super inspired by the story you tell, but take a more considered approach to their first 100m or other ultra. Otherwise, again, a great video. Welcome to the world of ultras ;)

Thanks Heiko! & Oh by all means! I am not encouraging others to go do this - I am encouraging others to go conquer THEIR 100 miler. Whatever that is in life for them, whether it's starting a business, taking that trip, attempting a challenge, learning something new...it's different for everyone. This has nothing to do with "advice to go physically try to run 100 miles without much training" hahah I fully agree it is not wise for your body. Also I didn't make it out totally unscathed either, I definitely had some issues and wouldn't call my run "lucky" by any means. Lastly, I personally don't think a disclaimer is necessary...those who are attempting to run 100 miles should understand what they are getting themselves into physically & mentally. It's not my place to tell someone what they should or should not go try - that's on them and their goals...Cheers though! Thanks for watching and excited to take on some more races in the future

@@clayraterman I agree. Make a plan and go for your own 100 miler ... whatever that is. And a risk analysis is part of the plan. Hope your injuries are just niggles and go away. Good luck! And yes, enjoy your future endeavors. If it is running, you are so lucky in the US, as you have some really nice ultras available with all your national parks.

@@Heikolampe Yessir!! Couldn't agree more, my personal philosophy is just a touch different than most, I weigh out the risks and then just go for it anyway lol. And yes I'm all good now my body is much better! But you as well - I'm excited to check some more of these races out! Also keep me posted what races you're going after next - crush it my man!
