I was working at Chester’s then and was there that night. Fantastic show! A really great live band. I was living in Derry at the time & Brian Robinson, one of the owners, took me and the band back to Derry in his car. What amazes me about this recording is that they managed to edit out DJ Aluminium, who was prancing about in the background determined to be in every shot :-) We had some great gigs there. Probably the most memorable was Ian Dury & the Blockheads. They were booked months in advance and a some weeks before they were due we received an advance copy of their new single … Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick. We loved it, and the night they played at Chester’s happened to be the only week that it was #1. They were in great form and the place was heaving.

Brilliant. A perfect single when it came out, a snapshot in time. Unlike most of the other Nor'n Ir'lan bands of the period the Undertones wrote for their first flush about the basics for and by young men - girls, girls, girls. Once the 'Tones, driven by the O'Neill brothers, the main songwriters, 'got political' it was the end. IMHO the greatest thing a R'n'R musician can do is write a pop song about love/sex/adventure/being young.

ReadingforWisdom - I actually think that MOST of the Norn Iron bands wrote about girls. RUDI, Protex,Tearjerkers, The Moondogs etc. It was really only SLF & Ruefrex that got political

Ah Spit Records, the grey cells are getting greyer, so you may well be right, but I do remember the early '80s transitioning into such a local ideological, faction-aligned, political scene that it sucked the 'true rebellion' - i.e. thinking for ourselves out of the shadow of all the oppressors (state, gunmen, paramilitaries, police, army, parents, church) - out of a youth movement...maybe we just grew up.

RUDI, The Outcasts...yep...fertile times. I remember so well seeing Shellshock Rock at a film society screening not long after it was made (my Dad was society treasurer). GEM!
