it's crazy how Rachel and Josh Hutcherson's casting for the Hunger Games parallel a lot, both were dreams for them, and a good chunk of the fanbase, but were also both controversial among a good chunk of the fanbase as well for differing from the likenesses described in the books. Yet have come to be loved by many after their debuts came out

Yes she went directly from London to Poland to film the arena scenes. I don't think they cast Josh without knowing what they were doing. Josh did a great job and it was a good casting, but I believe Nina Jacobson was aware that Josh was Rachel's boyfriend. Rachel was always Francis Lawrence's first choice based on her WSS performance. . Rachel submitted an audition tape where she sang "I Feel Pretty" in Spanish in response to a open call for audition tapes for WSS. They liked it, asked for more, and the rest is history.

Yeah I never believed it was a coincidence that they cast Josh. Like c'mon, the have been in this industry for a long time, they did know he was Rachel's boyfriend. I'm ok with that though, Josh fit the character perfectly.

Rachel zegler got a lotta hate during the Shazam era because she confessed that she took the role because she needed a job. Then, when Shazam got released, it under-performed in the BO and Rachel was defending the film relentlessly on Twitter. So ppl didn't like to see her acting like an entitled child for a movie that she wasn't emotionally invested in. I hv seen her interviews and she seems very assertive. Since she's a newcomer and WOC, ppl expect her to be docile. I know nothing about PR but i have seen Jennifer Lawrence(well not defending some of her behavior) and Anne Hathaway suffer so i don't want to see Rachel be affected by negative publicity because she's incredibly talented.

I honestly feel bad for Rachel. She made a few comments with an attitude that definitely gave “I’m being funny, I’m excited about the project, and Disney has given me the go ahead”. And it didn’t come off like that but it’s not shocking - fans of Snow White are probably some of the most traditional Disney fans and they were never going to love a remake that was more modern in tone. Fans of Snow White were NOT fans of Snow White & the Huntsman, which was definitely a darker and more modern/independent woman remake. Rachel just gives young actor who was given a message and let off without a leash and now people can’t get over it. I’m not going to say it’s about her being a young WOC; I think it’s more because Kissing Booth fans know it’s junk food entertainment and it’s not beloved like Snow White is. Also, when did loving the movies you’re in become a requirement for starring in them? Are we not going to act like actors aren’t people who also just have to take work to make money? We’ve all done work we hate and it’s not a matter of being ungrateful - it’s just a matter of necessity. Point being, props to her for trying to work through this backlash as best as she can and props to people who are able to give valid criticism.

she definitely does not deserve all the hate she got like she only got that hate for being a young POC woman. like everything jacob elordi has been about the kissing booth movies was what she got hated on and it is completely unfair. however I do understand why so many people were mad about snow white like she was very rude about the prince charming actor joking about his lines being cut given how girlboss the movie was going to be and this whole idea snow white is stronger as an independent leader who is not wanting true love does not sit right with people. Like a big part of snow white is that she went through terrible shit and still has that kindness and want for love and something better and she isn't any less of a strong woman because she still wants true love. This does not undermine some arguably creepy aspects of the original like kissing an unconscious comatose woman but I just think a lot of people was just not cool about how she was about snow white as a character at all.

@greentea673 I definitely don't think it deserves to be passionate burning hatred like the Internet is giving. I think it's just a very unfortunate situation that she decided to be that way about a beloved disney character and have this kind of overreaction when she's only still so young. I definitely am worried about how the film is gonna turn out given her comments but I don't feel hate 🤣🤣🤣

@@itskimforkim-yi Lol, what do you mean she 'decided'. Disney has been trying to "update" their classics disney movies to fit modern sensibilities for a decade now with their live action movies. I have my criticisms on their lukewarm ideas interpretations of feminism, but this isn't Rachel Zegler's original take.

@greentea673 who knows really because all actors have to do what they can to support their film (although she seems to be someone who is always honest). I just think there's a very fine line to updating Disney and straight up changing who an iconic character is meant to be 🤷🏻‍♀️ But that's just my interpretation 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ I love Rachel she's amazing in Hunger Games! So who knows maybe the film won't be so bad but from what's said, who Snow White has been fundamentally changed.

Nah Fam, Coin is definitely not Lucy Gray. They are so different and it totally misses the point of the story's subject. And I also don't think that she is related to her. It doesn't always have to be family trauma-passed-by-generations to understand that a rebellion must be formed against some regime like the capitol´s. Same goes for a relation between Katniss and Lucy. We are so trained by bad plotted/ bad written YA Novels, that we only understand connections through family anymore. In real life family means almost nothing for the own rage against society's problems.

Millie Bobby Brown as like a 9yr old or something had the main role in a show called Intruders which was WILD. There's this cult of immortals who when they die, reside on the other side until their comrades can procure them a new compatible host body that they then possess and take over the life of. Millie is possessed by this like 400yo serial killer who's a massive misogynist with a really foul mouth and watching this tiny little girl say all those lines was crazy. Its worth watching cause its just a good show, plus hearing what comes out of her mouth really cracked me up.

Everyone has certain beliefs or preconceived notions and for whatever reason Disney is a MASSIVE phenomenon that many get up in arms with. I understand both sides to this. HOWEVER, I don’t think it’s something to even fight over. If she fights the part as a character or person, that should be the stand alone reason to just leave things like that alone. Also, on the other side, I think RZ did come off pretty entitled and condescending (whether that’s been manipulated by the media and public, that’s a different topic) way. IMO though, I think she was just very eager, excited, and happy for where she was in her career and possibly tried to play that Jennifer Lawrence type. Just the blunt totally honest gifted actor and it was all delivery, for me. That’s what made me feel a little cringe with RZ, the delivery. Again, I do think there’s things that are worth fighting on or for, and her being cast as Snow White, is just very low on my concerns for society as a whole. I think the live action movies are all not great, and really would love to see brand new stories that show inclusion. Like Moana. That’s what was so great about that movie, it shows people that are very much minorities and it showed a strong, vulnerable, and intelligent, but also naive young girl. It was multi faceted and it was brand new! That’s what we need. Brand new stories for everyone to see and connect with because we can’t evolve if we are just up cycling the same old tales over and over.

yeah, people are acting like a young new actress who needs a little bit of PR training is the worst person in the world. the clips that people circulate are literally from a disney event from over a year ago; if disney had a problem with what she said, they would've done something way before people decided to start yelling about it. at the same event, she was also going around praising all the creatives involved and being generally really excited about the project. she also posted all the time about things that reminded her of snow white in everyday life (before the hate mob got to her). like you said, could she have worded things better? yeah, for sure, but people have taken some very short, out of context clips and fucking RUN with it.

I will say that the introduction of the “mentor” mirrors the role of Effie in the original trilogy, someone from the Capitol who can help these kids learn how to present themselves. Just wanted to make that point, that the title changes, but the role is more like Effie’s, and Haymitch’s mentorship role wasn’t created yet.

I think the Hate was piled on a lot more than expected but I can see why people are upset. It’s not always about WHAT is said but HOW it’s said or comes across. People like Jacob Elordi tend to be more soft spoken and gentle in their opinions. Rachel often does come off as very entitled (just read some her tweets where she has been very harsh and rude - and there are PLENTY). There are definitely signs of narcissism in her. Watch her interview of Jimmy Fallon where she accidentally reveals and then is forced to admit that she’s always in line for the Snow White ride so she can get recognized by people. Also just watch the clip where she’s interviewed during the SAG AFTRA strike when she complains about having to stand around all day in the dress of an iconic Disney princess. Like she doesn’t even realize how narcissistic, whiny and entitled the things she says come off… it’s weird
