"Its only a beta, why are you criticizing it?" Because its in beta. This is *the* perfect time to voice our criticisms as the game is still in development. You usually can't get devs to change fundamental issues post launch due to needing to rework the whole game, so bringing them to light when the game is a WIP is ideal.

Too many nowadays. It's so sad seeing almost every mobile game that exists slowly turn into a rip-off game with pay to win stuff and hella load of ads. When a game made back in 2009 is much better than a game made pretty recently.. you know there gotta be some problems coming. Companies only want money from making games, not satisfaction or anything. You see those games which have low rating but a lot of people playing? Pay to win and ads. The ratings under the app store is clearly unsatisfactory but developers either don't reply or look at it, or, they just reply with "Hope you're enjoying our game. Sounds like a great way to help casual players while still letting hardcore players well. And to add it in top you should reward the player for using as few recommended plants as possible. Actually what I think is that, PvZ3 devs are intentionally trying to make it look like they actually care by making the survey. Sure, they’d take feedbacks, but only in the form of those multiple choice google forms, and it’s highly likely that the stuff that was asked in the google forms was the only things they care about improving. The core issues such as not being able to choose plants, level progression too fast, and ways to actually improve the actual PvZ tower defense gameplay instead of Gardenscapes, were never mentioned at all in any of the beta versions’ surveys. It’s pretty safe to say that unless they got completely new management for PvZ3, those things are never gonna be changed at all. And some extra words about the PvZ3 Clash Royale ripoff backlash. Most of it was about the UI being exactly like Clash Royale (with some parts copying Angry Birds 2 as well). And of course the fact that its in portrait mode. Even in the current beta the map UI is exactly like Gardenscapes or Homescapes or whatever i dont remember. But gameplay wise I think everyone has to admit that that early beta had way better gameplay, even without playing any of the betas myself. I like the concept of some of the new mechanics integrated into PvZ3, INCLUDING auto sun generating, its just not executed well yet (like Sunflower could still work as sun producers while auto sun generator is still there) and mightve been better after more testing and fixing.

I want there to be another 'travel around worlds' this like in PvZ 2 with time travel. but instead, with the actual earth and its many places instead of different timelines. Here is five of the world ideas i have: 1. The Sparkling Falls: The gimmick would be that the 8th and 9th column would be gone and all the plants must be on a lily pad. there would be VERY RARE surges where every plant and lily pad would move one tile forward. There might be wall-nut family plants that can be planted in water, maybe a coral nut. or maybe a plant that works against the gimmick. 2. The Blue Flare Volcano: The gimmick is there there would be random vents of lava that kills plants or zombies on the tile it erupts from. it would then leave a lava pool that disappears after 20 secs. it would prevent plants from being planted on it but zombies can go past it as they have gotten special equipment. there would be plants that can be planted on lava pools (MAYBE SNAPDRAGON CAN RETURN) and plants that can remove lava pools quicker can also be here. 3. The Dense Jungle: There would be saplings that grow on a tile and it heals plants in a 3x3 radius. there would also be vines that sprout which help zombies get over plants. there would be plants that can cut down vines. 4. Doom Meadows: It seems like a normal day level from PvZ 1 with no gimmick, and you are right! the gimmick as actually made by the zombies. There would be excavators that can dig holes in which plants cant be planted on. there would be a plant that can fill in those holes and a shepherd zombie that can spawn a sheep horde that destroys the lane it is in so multilane plants would be useful. 5. The Gold Mines: It would be very dark but not so dark so you can manage to see if you focus. Plantern's return can illuminate a 5x5 tile area so you can see better. Explorer and torchlight zombies will make a return and they light up a 3x3 area and flares plants they touch. Miners would return as well but they don't act like prospectors and go behind your defenses. they instead can throw gold nuggets that damage plants. There can be Umbrella Leaf return maybe as a hat that can be planted on plants. I am editing this part after watching the 'Cabbage Pult dosent Work' video and I was kinda sad to see how much people hate cabbage pult even after it was a part of MY TEAM for 3 whole worlds until I got Melon Pult. So this world will give some importance to cabbage pult: 6. Zombie Market: The gimmick would be carts of goods that roll vertically that destroys plants that is in the column they are in. A Market Zombie would be here which pushes a cart which one shots plants it rolls over like Zomboni and Barrel Roller. When the cart is broken, the Market Zombie would be enraged and start acting like newspaper, and if a cabbage pult is used, you basically hynotised it and it walks away ignoring everything else. The downside would be this has a chance to happen but not so rare that cabbage pult is still useless. let me know how you feel about this extra part.

PvZ3 isn't just terribly average, but it's meant to appeal to a super-casual audience that has been oversaturated by many similar games today. PvZ3 would make more sense as a game released back when PvZ2 released. Not to mention that PvZ2 has already done its work of alienating said audience of casuals, especially with its more recent updates. Combining the facts that they're not adding new worlds to PvZ2 for storage reasons and removing perfectly good music tracks from it for similar reasons, Popcap seems to only care about its own quotas and not our demands. Popcap doesn't really have a good reason to listen to us either regardless of what we argue, we're not the hyper-competitive "skill issue" whales that motivated PvZ2's modern changes nor the hyper-casual audience that can easily be pleased by another Candy Crush clone. Not to mention that they hardly bother working on non-PvZ games too. TBH, a lot of the people that made Popcap great either left or don't have the same passion as before. Even if EA didn't aim to taint Popcap, Popcap came to EA to die. Why would EA disapprove of Popcap's current mentality?

Problem 1: every level is locked and loaded. Now yes, this is a puzzle game thing, but it ruins the "flexible strategy" part of pvz. One of the best things for pvz was choosing plants and amking a certain unique combination out of them. I hate this "ya here you go use these plants and you know the thing blah blah" system. Problem 2: what even are they trying to be? A homescapes game with candy crush-like gimmicks while still keeping the pvz tower defense style? What on earth is this? So many questions, and I bet PopCap doesn't even know the answer to this. I swear, they don't seem to know what they're doing. Problem 3: the game treats you like a baby. Seriously, even a child playing this will probably get bored. The introduction to new gimmicks should work the pvz1 style. I refuse to acknowledge THIS as a mainline pvz game. If anything, it's far from a sequel. It should be called something like "Plants vs Zombies: Neighbourville Chronicles" or something similar. PopCap, here's what we want from a pvz game: -Well balanced difficulty. Not too hard but also should have a kick of challenge for the veteran players -Well thought out story. This is something that pvz2 lacked. Of course, pvz shouldn't have extremely deep lore, but the story just needs to make a little sense too. -Unique plants with unique uses, but not a straight upgrade to a previous plant, like in pvz2. -Creative gimmicks and worlds. Pvz2 had some good ones, like the minecart gimmick. -The microtransactions should at least be kept reasonable. No shitty gambling lootbox system, although hopefully pvz3 won't get such a change. -No upgrading system. We want strategy, PopCap. If you'll make a multiplayer system then we shouldn't have levelling up, for the love of god.

PvZ3's first soft release (the clash royale ripoff) in February 2020 wasn't even that bad. Everything was earnable through normal gameplay, there were lots of unique plants and zombies and the game was actually updated more often than every half a year. Yes, later updates made is SIGNIFICANTLY worse, but it was still something I'd much rather play than whatever we get now.

I love your videos and I have some thoughts to share with you and the comments section. I don't know if my comment will even be seen but here goes nothing (I'll list them point-wise for convenience): 1. I personally don't think that our inability to choose our own seeds kills the strategic elements of the game because we have seen some well-implemented "Locked and Loaded" levels in PvZ:2. What this actually kills is the replayability (which you briefly mentioned). One could also argue that this might create lazy level design because with the lawn and the zombie layout fixed, they could just change the set of plants for each level, which would bore a lot of players. 2. This "5 brains" things on the other hand is horrendous. Once you start playing the game, you are never going to lose because the levels won't be challenging enough and not to mention, they'll be boring. The only moments where you have a chance of losing is when the level is fun and challenging. Right as things get challenging, you'll possibly start losing 5 times in that level or a set of levels after that (because that's how these games typically go). This is more or less the same as being hindered by "free trials" as people called them back before microtransactions but now, there is no way to even come out of this "free trial" because all you can do by spending money even is just replenishing your brains temporarily and not permanently. 3. I have no problems with Grapes of Wrath or Mo. I personally think that one should play around them and think about allocating a certain set of zombies just for Mo or Grapes of Wrath to clear, while focusing on what the plants can actually clear and do good at it. With this said, I don't even think that the "puzzle" aspect of PvZ:3 is necessarily bad (as long as they implement it well which they won't; at this point, it's safe to say that they won't implement anything well though). 4. Plants and zombies may not look ugly but they seem lifeless. With all of this said, I want locked and loaded levels but I don't want all of them to be locked and loaded. I want Grapes of Wrath and Mo to be like they are but I don't want all of the levels to have these mechanics and be so puzzle-like. I want the devs to go an extra mile and add some details in (details could be some minor animations, references to old games, almanac references, etc.) Speaking of almanac, bring it back; unlike other issues, I have no idea why they removed that in the first place. Every game has something similar to almanac for reference but this has nothing like that. While they are at it, they might as well STOP copying other games and go with their own decisions. They have copied Hearthstone, Clash Royale and now they are copying homescapes (idk if PvZ:GW3 BFN copied something else but it's safe to assume that it copied something else too). Also, don't even get me started on the words like inspiration and challenges which they tend to use when criticized. It's the same as copying and issues respectively to them but the positive connotation in the former simply blinds most people. EDIT: Honestly speaking, Plants vs. Zombies Adventures did a way better job compared to this even considering its awful lag and god-awful sow times for some plants.

something that leads me to belive that this game is made for younger/hyper casual players is the core visual design. Every plant moves around way too much for my liking, compared to pvz 2 and especially pvz. everything on the screen has to move eratically which makes me think its just trying to desperatally get your attention at all times.

16:19 lmao I noticed that too They seriously used fnaf 2s dead flashlight sound I'm kidding but seriously I said in another video the game has an identity crisis I would not care much about it as I do now if it wasn't the 3rd game following up 1 and 2 it could work as a spinoff like neighborville did (downfall of that was making it to dumbed down) This seems like it aims at no one, casuals would not be able to keep up with the level pacing, older people won't understand the levels because they're not structured and previous fans won't have enjoyment from it because it's simply not worth anyone's time Calling it a spinoff is fine its not an improvement at all on the last two games, something I think pvz1 shines in were mini games and replayability and 2 for the heavy amount of content and variety (and well modding is easier on 2 as modding on 1 can break the entire game) Seriously what's going on internally at popcap to make such a shameless rip off of their own franchise
@SkyanUltra Жыл бұрын
for the most part, i really agree with this video. the comment on sun cost being negligible on the game as a whole though is really dumb though. sun cost TIES IN with the pacing of the game. they’re reverting to 25 sun meta, which is inherintely a slower meta, when the game moves at a breakneck pace. it’s going to have an affect on the game as a whole, because if you’re finishing planting your rows of sun producers when the level is already almost over, then you don’t have a chance to build an actual defense, which to me is a huge part of PvZ’s identity in terms of gameplay. other than that one thing though, i do agree. i really want this game to succeed, but as it is the future looks grim. i can only hope popcap steps forward and tries to interact with the PvZ community further to get more feedback on the gameplay, or at least explain their intentions with PvZ 3.

As someone who grew up with pvz 1, 100%ing the game many times, its really sad to see the direction PVZ is going. I didnt care much for PVZ2, but I understood why people loved it so much, PVZ3 however, looks really bad. I really loved PVZ 1 because you could enjoy it, no matter your age. I remember before PVZ2 came out, there was a point where me, my dad, my little sister, and my grandma were all activly enjoying the game. I was four years old when I first played PVZ 1, and its been a huge part of my life since. Even now, going back it truly is an amazing game. While I have my gripes with PVZ 2, like the pacing, plants, and terrible story, I dont think the game was bad, just not nearly as good as PVZ1. I honestly think they should have just expanded on the first game. Every time I replay it I alway think "Why doesnt it go on longer?" and "There so much more they could have done!". While I perfer the PVZ 1 artstyle, the second game still looks really good, I think they should have just stuck to their roots, and focused on a shorter, but more memorible expirience. As much as I want to blame EA, I think Popcap is equally responsible for the games failure. But hey, Its never to late I suppose... I hope popcap takes their community into consideration in the future, rather with PVZ3, or even PVZ4... I think the only way PVZ could really ever return to its former glory is if they went back to their roots. Id like to see a mix of PVZ2s level variety and PVZ1s pacing... Of course thats all just my oppinion, as sad as it is popcap makes more money when they appeal to a younger demographic, so I doubt we will ever see PVZ meet our expectations...

I think that the reason why people are somewhat blaming PVZ3s problems on EA is because EA is notorious for forcing the studios that they own to do what they want. Essentially what people are saying is that if popcap wasn’t forced to make a free to play mobile puzzle game. They wouldn’t. That if it was up to the developers at popcap and not the EA executives then PVZ3 would be more like PVZ1 and PVZ2. Even if we assume that EA has absolutely no influence on popcap whatsoever. People are still going to blame EA because they own popcap and people don’t like EA. I might be wrong about this and it’s only popcap That is pushing for these changes and won’t listen. But knowing EA I would not be surprised if they at least in some way are forcing popcap to make certain decisions even if the fans don’t like it.

I'm just gonna copy/paste by comment from your community post as it applies here: I played a little bit of it and I just hate that you can really feel that it's a 2022 mobile game, especially with the U.I and Homescapes style "customization". PvZ 2 expanded on the first in nearly every way, so much to the point where I was barely able to realize that it was meant for mobile when I was playing it on PC. PvZ 3 (take this with a grain of salt as the game isn't anywhere near finished yet) just doesn't expand on 2 the way 2 did for the first game. The new plants aren't really that different and the few new gimmicks don't add anything, they just slightly change the game. I actually don't mind the art style as it feels like a natural evolution of the PvZ 2 style but gameplay wise is just isn't all the way there. I think they should just fully release the game and market it as a spinoff akin to heroes rather than an official numbered entry into a trilogy with really high standards already in place.

I honestly hate the f***ing excuse of “oH, wElL, aCtUaLlY, tHiS GaMe iS JuSt a bEtA So yOu cAn’t cOmPlEtElY JuDgE FrOm iT, iT Is gOiNg tO GeT BeTtEr” No, that isn’t how a beta works, the point of a beta is to get feedback from the player base and the community, a beta is not the same thing as a demo. This stupid mindset of excusing bad designed games just because “iTs a bEtA” is what is causing them to be bad in the first place. (That or the creators of modern mobile games wouldn’t give a shit or two just because they want to make a quick buck) The point of a beta is to receive criticism, to obtain more information about flaws in your game from the community so that the creator themselves can fix it or better yet, improve upon their work Why do you think video games like Five Nights at Freddy’s, Minecraft, Among Us or Undertale received so much love during the years when they reached their peak or even now? Because they heard from the community by receiving criticism, a beta is no exception from recieving critisism Let’s use an amazing example to compare a beta to something else, like movies for example, remember the old model for Sonic in the Sonic movie? Yeah who doesn’t remember that atrocity (I found it funny that they even made it out on their way to put the old model in the chip and dale movie lol) What if people would’ve just started saying “It’s just a trailer, it could get better” Tell me, what do you think would’ve happened next? If your answer was “They would’ve fixed the Sonic model” No you f***ing idiot, they would’ve kept Sonic as it was first shown in the first trailer and the movie would’ve been most likely a flop cause of that, then you would be asking yourself “Why wouldn’t they fix the Sonic model?” How were they supposed to know that they needed to fix the model if they didn’t receive any complains about him in the first place? That is why the Sonic movie did amazing once the real sonic model came out, because everyone was so distraught and angry about the Sonic model, Sega, Paramount and everyone working on the movie went out on their way to fix the model on every single freaking frame for the movie, do you know how much work and effort it takes to make a bad model, use it to render it on the whole movie and then change the model to render it again?! Sega could’ve said “nah fuck that” but because they love their community so much, they went out on their way to fix the ENTIRE movie and guess what?! It was a massive success!!! Everyone loved the new sonic model! It holds up to how our man Sonic really is! Now lets take the concept of a “trailer” from a movie and use it as a concept of a “beta” for a video game, see the similarities? A “beta” is almost the same concept of a “trailer”, they are made to be released for the public so that they can ask us “Let us know what you think” So this is what I think about this game I agree on everything that 660nj says about the beta for this game, this game feels like a PvZ Chinese knockoff but with almost nothing from what we love about PvZ: The levels are either empty and boring or they are really bullshit with no challenge whatsoever, there aren’t enough plants for 50 levels for a PvZ game (even the first PvZ game had more than 50 plants with 50 different levels wtf is up with that?), why the f*** did they think that putting up a life system was good for this game’s health, this is probably by far the worst “fEaTuRe” in the entire history of video games because of how shitty it is, I don’t care what anyone has to say about this mechainc, it’s stupid, useless, unhelpful, annoying, stressing and absurd I hate this thing from the bottom of my soul, the levels feel repetitive and they are basically 50 different tutorials which is frustrating and WHERE THE F IS CHOOSE YOUR SEEDS??? (Even the first pvz3 beta got choose your seeds “kind of” right by showing you off all the zombies that are going to be on the next level) Look, we don’t criticize games because it makes us feel better or because we want to relieve stress or some shit like that, we criticize games because we want to see the game improve, to not let this game just be just a shittier version of pvz1, the only thing I can say that I it is good about this game is the music & artstyle for the plant side, yes, I admit it, the artstyle is cute and loveable, I’m an artist myself and I can say that they put a lot of effort and love for the artstyle of some of these plants, especially sunflower, she looks adorable and full of life whenever she produces sun, yeah its not the same artstyle as in pvz1 or pvz2, but it is definitely a loveable artstyle that I could watch all day, not sure if I can say the same thing for the zombies tho but I’ll leave that aside. Also, you can never go wrong with music if you at least know the basic fundamentals for it, I make my own music in FL studio for myself and for a video game that I am planning on making and I can say that music is definitely important for a video game but companies like PopCap always make amazing music and its the same deal here as well. I am genuinely just sad on how this game is going, I am just… I don’t know, probably stressed out on seeing that history is basically repeating itself, it happened with Battle for Neighborville and I am afraid that if PopCap keeps it up like this, the same thing will happen for PvZ3….
