Looking at the Nirvana album that was deemed "unreleasable" by their record label.
In this video i go behind the scenes on Nirvana's 3rd studio album 'In Utero' and talk about how their record label were seriously considering not releasing the album because it was too "rough sounding". We hear from Steve Albini and Bob Ludwig who worked on the record and i give my personal analysis on this whole situation.

Cobain - "The first time I played it at home, I knew there was something wrong. The whole first week I wasn't really interested in listening to it at all, and that usually doesn't happen. I got no emotion from it, I was just numb. So for three weeks Krist and Dave and I listened to the record every night, trying to figure out what was wrong with it, and we talked about it and decided the vocals weren't loud enough, the bass was inaudible and you couldn't hear the lyrics. That was about it." The band all wanted to remix the album but Albini said no and actually held the masters hostage. Then Albini crafted this false narrative that the record company pressured the band to remix it. This claim was reprinted in a 1993 Newsweek article. Nirvana wrote a letter to Newsweek denying any pressure to change the album and saying the author had "ridiculed our relationship with our label based on totally erroneous information". When Kurt was asked if he'd spoken to Albini since the dispute, he replied "No," "I don't have any desire to talk to him again."

I really wish Nirvana released one more album before Kurt died so people could get one last taste of them & realized they were the most important punk band of the 90s. I'm sure there's a ton of unreleased material that Courtney is sitting on that could make for a full album. The Lights Out box set isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about unreleased studio recording that haven't been properly mixed and mastered.

I was more into Pearl Jam and AIC in the beginning. Now? Bleach? Incestiside? Fun! Nevermind? Had Great songs ON it..don't get me wrong. but? Something about teen spirit? I just can't dig! Now?! In Utero?? Absolutely hit me in the Right place! Not a bad song on there!😊 And..Of course?! Unplugged? Is the ultimate Record. If ya read the song titles ...and know the meanings? I can understand why the record execs didn't like In Utero: while the album has some good tracks, the quality of its individual tunes & its overall level of production is a step back from Nevermind. Nirvana and their die hard punk fans love In Utero, but anyone who's listened through both albums can clearly hear why Nevermind is an absolute masterpiece; Butch Vig deserves a shitpile of credit for his production on that album, even though Nirvana themselves ultimately claimed they didn't like the sound on the album after it started flying off the shelf like nothing we'd ever seen before in 1991!!!
