If they came back in stock I'd only have to pay just over £60. It's utterly ridiculous. At this point it'd probably be cheaper to just pay for 3D printed versions from an independent seller. The problem with Amiibo for me is that Nintendo either uses them too much or too little. In Botw they only give you some cosmetics and in Smash you get an npc fighter. While in Samus Returns the Metroid Amiibo locks away the hardest difficulty and in Twilight Princess HD the Wolf Link Amiibo locks away an entire dungeon
@RodaMoonknight2 жыл бұрын
@HighSeas epona? That's another amiibo that's not wolf link, and in BOTW Epona is just another horse with a different skin and stats. It's not as bad as locking a mode behind it. I have been of the opinion they should be DLC unlocks you can outright buy digitally or use the physical figurine. Kinda like what Starlink was doing, or at least attempting. Here's a little pro-tip from the action figure collecting community, you can actually take you're figure out of the packaging while (mostly) preserving the appearance of the blister card itself. Just take a sharp knife, like an x-acto knife, and cut along three of the sides of the base, making a little flap that you can open. Then just slide the tray out and you have your figure out while preserving most of the packaging!

I jumped on the amiibo bandwagon relatively late. Samus (Smash version) aside, I had no interest in them, especially since they had no points of articulation. I did eventually buy Samus a few months after launch and kept it sealed. Bought Daisy (Super Mario version) at launch and kept it sealed and for a long time that's all I had and wanted. Then I impulse bought Kirby (Kirby version) at Five Below, kept it sealed. Then Ken (one of my go-to character in SF II) and Daisy (Smash) released, bought both day 1 and I just started amiibo hunting. Somewhere along the way I started taking them out of their respective packages to scan them for games like Mario Kart 8, that "free" amiibo game on Wii U & 3DS, and a few other games. I then told myself I'd collect all of the 3rd party Amiibo and keep them sealed for collector's/value going up purposes and while I did get a few, it felt weird having some amiibo sealed and some loose. I eventually sold somewhere between 3-5 sealed Amiibo (not for much) and kept, as well as opened, the ones of characters with whom I have some kind of history with and/or admiration for. I currently have 33 Amiibo and outside of maybe Wario (Smash version), Waluigi, Wolf Link (I honestly do try to limit getting LoZ Amiibo as I know those are a pretty penny, especially if I feel compelled to get all of them to say I have EVERY LoZ amiibo), and getting ALL of the Monster Amiibo (Stories 1 & 2 as well as Rise/Sunbreak) at once without breaking the bank (that ain't happening), I'm good with my collection. I occasionally scan them and clean them but otherwise they are on display on 4 shelves in my room.
@DragoonMyuutsu2 жыл бұрын
I open my amiibo as well, doing it carefully to preserve as much of the cardboard packaging as possible. A good portion of games still have need for amiibo scanning even if minor in effect/ unlock which makes it necessary to open them. I have gotten doubles myself and those are the only ones I keep in the box such as Mewtwo, Greninja, Ness and Lucas. As for storing them, I only open amiibo when I have a nice dust-proof display case for them; however, its very difficult to find reasonably priced ones that can stack like the Daiso cases I used to get, but are now discontinued.

See I loved taking them out of the box and I ended up saving the boxes to possibly later put them back in, but this lead me to having no space in my room to keep all the boxes and I sadly made the choice to throw them out. However I recently have decided to keep them in the boxes for a few reasons. Mostly because of the box art, but also because of selling value possibly later. I think the thing I semi-regret is customizing them. While I have one really good paint job I did on one, the other is eh and the one I started on...it looks bad. I think for a collecting purpose its hard. I like them both out and in the boxes, but I think its better kept in box, specially in some. Like my Ridley amiibo, oh hell yeah it looks so good in box. < 3

Though I will say that really it all comes down to personal preference and I can fully understand why people would prefer to keep theirs boxed up.

I managed to buy all of them (minus some regional exclusive ones) since 2014. Glad they release way more sporadically, by the way. I swap them every two-three months or so and store the rest safely in the cellar in bags, inside plastic boxes.

While I’m guilty of keeping my Amiibo in the box, I completely agree with Alex on opening things you have unopened. I mean you bought it to use it, right? My problem is that as long as it stays sealed, it stays clean and “untarnished”, plus I am not a fan of choices that you can’t go back on. Once you have pulled that shrink wrap off, you ain’t ever getting it back on again. Sure you can buy a machine that shrink wraps things, but if the game came in one of those shrink wraps that says “Nintendo” or “PlayStation” across, again, you ain’t ever getting it back on to preserve and look pretty, and as soon as it goes off, it starts to deteriorate.

I found a simple solution. I don't have a ton of money to spend on Amiibos, so I bought like 3 of them, Links Awakening Link Amiibo, and the Samus and EMMI two-pack. I took them out of the packaging and threw that away (because I don't need the clutter). And I use/will use them for whichever games they'll work with. I got those because they're the only ones from their games and that keeps it simple. For every other character I want for other games, I used my phone to copy Amiibo data from people who didn't mind sharing them, and put them on the blank white NFC cards that I bought online, wrote the name of the Amiibo and what game it's from on the card, sleeved them, and put them in a deck box for later use. Eazy, peezee.

It all depends on the box the collectible comes in. If I can keep the packaging intact when opening and closing it, then I don't mind taking the item out and display them. If it's those packages that rip the artwork as I try to open, like those individual hot wheel packages then I'm keeping them in their box and more than Iikley holding them to sell years later. I'm very much split down the middle on this one. On one hand, I've kept every single amiibo I've gotten over the years in its box. But my original plan was to only collect the Smash Bros. amiibo and then proceed to unbox and properly display them on a custom made shelf after I had obtained them all. There was this really beautiful shelf I saw on etsy that had these little indents in them for the amiibo bases to be securely fastened into. And the backs of the shelves were actually designed to look exactly like the amiibo boxes! So it'd essentially be like having them boxed while also getting to properly use them. I think they also had Smash 4 and Smash Ultimate variants, if you prefer one art style over the other! However.... there is ONE amiibo from the Smash line that I have yet to obtain.... and until I do, it will prevent me from ever opening any of these and properly displaying them like I've been wanting to for years... and that amiibo.... is Corrin Player 2.... The ONE AND ONLY plus side of the 3DS and Wii U eShops shutting down is the small sliver of hope I have that Nintendo will remake/re-release Fire Emblem Fates for the Switch and then in turn re-release the two Corrin amiibo along with it. I wasn't a fan of that game in the slightest, but if it'll bring back the golden goose of Smash Bros. amiibo, then I'm all for it! But then again, they didn't do a re-release of the Yarn Poochy amiibo when Yoshi's Crafted World came out, which is ALSO absurdly expensive and was only available in the US via a bundle with the 3DS version of Woolly World, so maybe they'll remake Fates and just not re-release the amiibo, because they love to torture me. Just me. Specifically me. Because the world is cruel. DX In the time I've spent trying to obtain Corrin Player 2, I started to collect several other amiibo to satiate my never ending hunger for silly collectible figures. And.... I wound up more or less having a complete amiibo collection. I'm still missing a few from the Super Mario line and I don't have any of the Breath of the Wild ones. Will probably get those if/when they get a reprint when BOTW 2 comes out. But ya. My biggest priority is Corrin Player 2... and Poochy... and Mega Yarn Yoshi... and Gold MegaMa- oh, who am I kidding? I'm getting all of them!

Also a few various from most sets, like Summer Isabelle from the AC line, Inkling Boy Green from the S2 line, and Alm from the FE set. At first my goal was to only collect the smash series when they first came out. Then the collector bug bit me and now I have over 90% of the amiibos displayed in box, the ones I don't have are usually region restricted and too expensive for me to drop 200 per missing figure. Figures that I want to use I buy double. I feel like Ikea made these picture shelves with amiibos actually in mind. They fit perfectly on them and I have dropped around 400 euros just on shelves to display then on the wall....

Okay, so here's the best of both worlds: You keep the Amiibo in the box, BUT you gets some RFID chips and pirate the Amiibo files, then flash the RFID chips with the Amiibo data and tape them to the bottom of the box. In all seriousness, I always opened the boxes when I was still getting them since I used them for Smash Bros. and that one weird emulator thing on the Wii U that let you play demos of Virtual Console games even though Amiibos cost more than NES and SNES games. I used to keep all my Amiibos on the floor. These days, I don't buy them anymore because I never see them anywhere and barely ever play Nintendo consoles. The last time I even used them was to get some meat in Breath of the Wild. Still, I'll have fond memories of Bowser unlocking the ability to play Kirby Super Star for three minutes.

18:36 i know it’s not an Amiibo but who is that in the back left with their arms up? Looks familiar

I wish I kept at least some of my amiibo in the box. I got so many at the height of the amiibo craze and now that I've grown up a bit and am more cognizant about making my spaces neat and aesthetically appealing, all the little figures are so hard to display without it just looking like a giant unorganized clutter. Sure the boxes would take up more space, but it would make a nicer display than just having a giant group of twenty of them randomly sitting together on a shelf.

For the most part I'm on team open box. I have 10 amiibo, and 9 of them are out of the box. The one exception is my Byleth amiibo, since I'm not too interested in using him, and the artwork on the box makes him look better since the head on the figure is so small.

All of mine are opened, partly because I use them with games that support 'em sometimes, but mostly so they take up less space on shelves.

The quality of the figure is wasted on not opening them. There is so much detail in these little guys. Metroid, yarn Yoshi, guardian.

majority of them are in their original boxes in a box in my closet to be sold at a higher price sometime in the near future. only like 4 are outside of the box because i really like those characters.

Obviously, they are worth more in the package not to mention they look better. For the ones I open, I bought another to keep sealed! I have the boxes all lined up in a row above my closet door using pushpins in the hangtag part, they look nice!

My solution for dealing with opening Amiibo or not is to buy as many as I can pre-owned, they're usually unboxed and by extension cheaper. Then if I buy one brand new, for example through a pre-order, then I can keep that one in the box and not feel bad about it. This is just in terms of collecting them though, if I'm buying them specifically to use in a game then I'll likely unbox them.

I'm impartial like Zion is. I open some and I keep some others sealed. The difference is that I have a shelf space solely for keeping the opened boxes up for display. It'd be a waste to get rid of them cause they look good too 😅

Ehm, all splatoon amiibo have been rereleased, bought the 2 packs of callie&marie and off the hook set and much more for like 28 euro each in store a week or two ago, my local store now have like 150 of each in stock. So they are no longer worth anything.

The only amiibo I tried keeping in a box is a Monster Hunter Stories "Qurupeco" Amiibo. I thought of keeping it in the box because it's a Japanese Only Amiibo, but the size of the box took up a lot of space and I thought "I'm not gonna resell these for profit", and I really just love collecting them. I just grabbed my knife, cut out the plastic box, keep the art and figure and display it.

The only reason to keep them boxed is if you plan on selling it in the future for a hiked up price.

I don't think the boxes are anything special, like it's usually just your run of the mill stock art. It'd be different if they had unique art on them but like, I can see that art in-game or on the box art. Besides, I think they look better without the box, you can position them the way you want and fit more on one shelf.

When I first started collecting amiibos I originally wanted to keep them in their boxes but when they arrived the boxes were all ruined and just looked ugly so I just took the amiibos out of their boxes.

The correct answer is to keep them in box and buy blank NFC cards to make bootleg amiibos

I only keep the really rare amiibo in boxes. I just don't have room for all those boxes. I did buy a few of those dioramas to display them.

I use a razor to cut along the back of three sides and bottom of three plastic so you can take them out but still put them back and display them in the box 🤷🏿♂️

I have a shelf that looks like a fire escape. I rotate the selection on the shelf every so often and keep the rest in a plastic tub. I have like 150+, so putting them all on shelves is a skosh difficult. And yeah, you should definitely open every single one.

I have the same problem. I really like having the amiibo out but I love the packaging so I cut out the amiibo through the bottom and keep the packaging as well 💀

2/3 of mine are open because I bought them to use them in game. 1/3 are in box waiting for use because I have no use for them yet. The only three I refuse to open are my Gold Mario, Smash Rosalina, and a Ryu signed by his voice actor.

At first I opened mine, but then their prices started skyrocketing and there hit a point I stopped opening them. So I've got all the BotW champions, Odyssey, Dread, Bayonetta, Cloud, Octolings, Pearl and Marine, all still boxed. Now I'm not sure whether I'll open them or not. I ended up buying more than I ever intended to.

I think the Kirby amiibo was perfectly executed for Kirby: Planet Robobot. It gave you the UFO ability, which was an amazing, somewhat broken, ability, but at the same time you weren't ever truly overpowered. Your experience wasn't drastically changed from using the amiibo, but it still had a cool function. Upon that, fans weren't scalper-locked from content- You could get the UFO ability if you 100%ed the game, so nobody is ever truly at a loss if it's 100 years in the future and all Kirby amiibos have disintegrated.
