Funny how until just this year, I had not thought of Jonah as dying in the fish and then being resurrected to be spit out. (Spit first, or resurrected first? Probably spitting was itself resurrection.) I think as a kid I imagined him camping for three days, and never thought about it since. This seems to be bodily resurrection, unlike what is promised to rapturees, where their incorruptible resurrection bodies are already piled like cordwood in 3rd heaven awaiting the apocalypse. Paul assures us they lack troublesome genitalia; he might be wrong, but it seems like a good idea to check yours before you get in.

It's quite interesting how Greek and Roman etc. mythology is considered as fictional stories, and Hebrew mythology is considered true. They all have unbelievable stories and monsters and gods and themes. What is it that makes the Bible more true than, say, the Iliad? Or conversely, what makes the Iliad less true than the bible?

I think its the connection of all the books of the Bible. When you stop spending all your time trying to disprove it and really study the whole bible, you uncover a story that only could have been inspired by a power infinitely greater than any human. It is the way that authors, separated by thousands of years could each write something that so connects with each other, telling a story that demonstrates this plan of the Creator of the universe to first allow free will of His created ones that bring themselves to the brink of extinction, and then through an act of love, provide a solution to reconcile the whole mess back to Himself. The Bible is a book like no other in that you could remove parts of it and still keep the storyline intact. There is no book in existence that is written in this manner. The more you read it in faith the more you understand His plan and the role each of us play in its conclusion. Understanding starts with faith, then grows and grows as one faith grows. It is truly the greatest story ever told.

0:00 - 8:57: This sets up the story of Jonah and introduces the concept of sea monsters in various cultures, laying the groundwork for the documentary's comparisons. 8:57 - 11:55: The Perseus and Andromeda story provides a strong parallel to Jonah, particularly with the Jaffa connection. 14:00 - 17:06: Heracles's encounter with the sea monster offers another interesting comparison, emphasizing the three-day motif. 17:54 - 22:18: The segment about Jason and the dragon, especially the vase depiction, directly links to Jonah visually and thematically. 41:15 - 49:09: This section introduces Bruce Louden's work and his insightful analysis of Jonah in relation to The Odyssey, highlighting significant overlaps. 49:09 - 1:09:24: This portion delves deeper into the specific parallels between Jonah and The Odyssey, offering a nuanced understanding of the shared motifs and narrative structures. 1:09:24 - End: The conclusion summarizes the documentary's key points and invites further reflection on the interconnectedness of ancient myths.

Ketos may 'etymological' be related to (dutch) Kuit, vis-kuit (female fish-eggs) and (dutch) Hom, hom-vocht, puit (male fish-seed). which translates in english as Roe and/or Spawn. Obviously the monster is 'in heat' or 'horny' . The english pout (dutch puit/puut) meaning a hump, gland : pout-eel, blenny (puitaal). english roe, rod translates as dutch roede. A sticky 'thing' and often the sea-dragon is depicted as (double/twin) horned. The hebrew Keter (crown) is also a sticky thing to be placed on some-one's head. the semitic (?) god EL, melkiart, melech/moloch is to compare with greek Chronos/ Kronos and with the sacrifical Bull, eel, serpent or dragon. In the 'proto-indo-european' or PIE creation-myth this 'snake' is cut in pieces or castrated to 'shape' the elements of water and dust (Earth) together with wind and fire (Heavens) the 4 building-blocks of the universe. Jesus not so much stills the storm but 'winds and seas' the twin-duo Eather and Pontus (the horns). One, two-horned monster is symbolic for a 'trinity' likely from PIE origin.

Scripture is about what takes place within you not the external world The Parable of Jonah is about a Breathing Exercise You take air into your esophagus and then swallow it down into your bowels This allows you to create the Bread of Life or a different kind of energy that opens up the central column of your Spine Jesus taught the same exercise when he stopped the "wind and the waves" on the boat, as this exercise stops the Breath and the Heart Jonah then goes into a 3 day and night Meditation similar to Lazarus and Jesus

@JesusLied_ReadTheBible False GOD? The Story of Jonah is a Parable about what you have to practice to free your Soul from your Mind and return to Stillness You instinctively know that being comes before the time and space based individual that is created by the mind All the experiences that make up your personality came after you existed so how can they be you? In Stillness, only GOD exists Jonah's three days in the belly of a fish is a metaphor for Samadhi The first born son (individual Consciousness) is surrendered when you become a Christ You then recognize that you were never the mind and body but merely picking up the vibration of creation You are in the world but not of the world
@umunhum34 ай бұрын
@JesusLied_ReadTheBible Jesus didn't think Jonah and Noah were parables Jesus knew with absolute certainty that they were There are two poles of energy that flow through your body that are powered up by the breath flow These are referred to in Scripture as the Male and Female components, solar and lunar forces, the two witnesses, the two olive trees, Adam and Eve, they are said to have the power to shut down heaven as they bring about the first born son or individual consciousness that must be surrendered - do not eat of the tree of knowledge The East wind in the parable of Jonah is the solar force that flows through the right nostril The imbalance energy that flows within your body is what powers up the mind enveloping the soul and trapping it into physical existence The light shines in darkness and the darkness comprehends it not This is why you have to take up your cross in the bridal chamber which Moses referred to as the ark of the covenant, Noah just called it an ark The spiritual journey takes place within you not in the external world Have you ever noticed that your breath flow (spirit) rotates nostrils every hour? This is what creates time and space prior to which there is just Being This is why Jesus taught when two make peace with each other in this one house, they can say to the mountain move away and it will move away If you want to experience your spiritual birth in this lifetime, you should learn about your Spirit (Breath Flow) as balancing it is what opens the tree of life This is the Key to everything

I am just starting to learn that nearly every single bible story has a similar story in the myths of other cultures, interesting..... and many were written before the bible was... so who copied who? Ninevites were Assyrian and would have no truck with YHWH the clan god of the Jews whom they conquered (721-701 BCE) and exiled to Nineveh any Yisroelites who could foster a rebellion (priests, elites & metalworkers &c) - the only way this legendary story could make any sense in terms of time frame would be the thrust from Judaean prophets to reach out specifically to the Yisroelite exiles in Assyria who had begun to dump YHWH (since he didn’t save them from their kingdom being destroyed) for the Assyrian national God Ashur and his consort Asherah-‘when in Rome…’ In Mark 4, ‘ho Iesous’ does not literally address the winds, but rather the disciples who were screaming ‘Rebbe Rebbe wake up ! Don’t you even care that we might drown ? And he stood up and said ‘Be Muzzled, all of you !’ which meant he was actually telling his disciples to ‘SHUT UP’ not commanding the winds to stop … and shortly afterwards the frequent squalls on the lake of Genessaret began to subside giving rise to ‘a miracle story’ with echoes of ‘Red Sea Moses’ parting the sea and midrashically adding (in Luke & Matthew) new dialogue which ‘theologically softens their angst’ - so instead of Mark’s ‘Rebbe, don’t you even care that we’re drowning?’ the harsh disrespectful dialogue was switched to something more ‘polite’ which would also drag in Old Testament ‘divinity powers’ e.g. ‘Save, Lord, we perish !’ (cf Psalms 118:25 and 46:10) Hagaddic Midrash (not pure ‘positivistic history detailing what really really happened in real life’) is one of the literary cornerstones of gospel narratives … which unfortunately most modern-day ‘Christian’s’ know nothing about at all…More’s’ the Pity, I say !!

The tail across is nearly 1000 kilometers across the tail. A monster animal like leviathan a dragon that is 14,450 kilometers long. his dead body still very visible and easy to find. These animals were absolutely real I have been following their tales across cultures through out their history. the fish that swallowed jonah, and it was a fish not a whale, whats left of its backbone is about 2000 kilometers of spine and the tail. but its till there.

Doesn't the number 3 in world mythology always represent the same thing? Triumph over the season of death? Based on the sacred promise Mother Nature demonstrates to all who incarnate in her world. Winter is her season of death which lasts 3 months. And is always, always, always followed by the season of life. Known as Spring. Which is also 3 months long. And is the season of rebirth and reconstitution and resurrection. Also every month the moon dies for 3 days and then is reborn anew as a sacred new moon. This is why dying and rising gods are entombed for 3 days before they resurrect. This is why Hermes Trimegistus was known as the thrice great. As he was famous for trumping over death. Just like Jesus The Christ. This is what the 3 mithraic wise men represent. And this is all the Christian trinity actually symbolizes. It isn't about the individual personas but rather the sacred promise of the number 3. Which is what most parental deity religions are selling.💙

For Christians this is a most importat book. Jesus says that the only sign to be given is the sign of Jonah. Quite a few issues arise. 1. Jonah creates many converts to the Jewish God. None of the converts are Jews. None of them bring sacrifice and none are ethnic Jews. 2. God had given his word he'd destroy Nineveh. Following their response to the message God repents - does not carry out his previous word. 3. The context for this book and also Ruth is to be a juxtaposition to the actions undertaken by Ezra in the putting away the non-ethnic Jews in mied marriages. The message of both Jonah and Ruth is in juxtaposition. God changing his mind is important because of the Deuteronomic injunction against mixed marriages used by Ezra. In particular, in Jonah, God is caring about all the children - and one can think of the children of the mixed marriages. 4. Similarly in Ruth the heroine is a Moabite, married Boaz and is a progenitor of no less than David. 5. Jonah typifies israel/Judah. He's upset becasue God doesn't destroy Nineveh. He sets up his booth precisly to watch Nineveh being destroyed and wants to die because that doesn't take place. 6. Note in Jonah God has concern for the animals. The animals aren't used in sacrifice and seem, alomg with adults and children seem to be part of divine concern. 7. Jonah, while in the big fish, typifies the exile away from the Holy Land. His lack of concern for the Ninevites reflects teh harsh view of the Jews returning from exile, 8. Jonah is both bad and good. He goes in the wrong direction because he does't want the Ninvites to be able to repent, On the oyjer hand he always tells the truth when asked. 9. God in the Jewish Scripture is described as being the one who made heaven and earth, in Jonah God is described as the One who made the sea and dry land. This is a change of perspective of the divine and the Creation, relating strongly to those converting to the new faith.

In Mark the calming of the storm opens the 1st branch of the bifurcated story, while Jesus walk on water opens the 2nd branch. While we have a strong homeric allusion in the 1st branch it is also clear that Jonah makes a short appearance. The fact that Mark here combines two sources mimetically certainly adds to difficulties in interpretation. Yet it may be helpfull if one recognizes that the 1st branch has Mark project a Jerusalem perspective and the 2nd projects a pauline perspective. So here is also a task to find how those two trange passage across the lake can be differentiated. what are the differences - In the 1st branch they don't throw Jesus overboard even when the source Jonah tells them so. - In the 2nd branch Jesus is allready overboard and it is about Jesus coming into the boat. - in the 1st branch Jesus is quite physically present yet asleep! - in the 2nd branch Jesus is seen as a ghost walking on water! - in the 1st branch Jesus is seen as a safey to the crew. - in the 2nd branch Jesus is seen as a danger to the crew. - in the 1st branch Jesus is calming the wind - in the 2nd branch he is calming the spirit of the disciples. - in the 1st branch the action leads to cross the sea as planned - in the 2nd branch the destination Bethsaida is missed. Bethsaida joins both branches again, before they go to Cesarea Philippi. So differentiating the branches was the cause how Mark morphed Jonah and homeric mimesis. The homeric theme allows us to recognize the cryptic landscape. But Jonah may have been one of these inspriational kernels, which simply fit too well into this greater homeric theme. But where does Jesus sleeping finally come from? Jonah or the Odyssee? That is hard to decide.

Fire to an aboriginal is a devouring usually male wolf that destroys, but to a Euro its a nurturing force thats usually feminine. There cannot be an accurate symbolism dictionary, it must be per biome. The symbols themselves are stand ins for ideas. The idea of principle is a limit, a circumference...carcer, the root of incarceration. This is styled in myth as a circling hawk, or an ass walking around a mill, or a coiling snake, depending on the biome. The initiated did not worship the symbol, but did through the symbol get to the idea. Myth is body of information, stored in symbolic form pre literature, but it must be unwound from many different spools before it is in a more unbias form. Its basically all the parts needed to keep their way of life afloat. The congregation is the memory device. The shaman is the one who can unlock the info out of the stories. The songs and dances are merely memory devices.
