The Saw franchise is one of the most profitable in all of horror, and it all started with two film school graduates who had a lot of ambition but not a lot of money. When director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell first released Saw in 2004, they had no idea that it would lead to a slew of sequels that would increase the creativity of Jigsaw’s traps with each installment. Did you know, James Wan is very good friend swith the actor that plays Adam in the first movie, and to this day, he can't watch the ending of Saw. It bothers him too much to hear his good friend screaming in pain and for help, even though he knows it's acting. He says it tears him up every time. That's someone who loves their friends as much as his job.

As for the traps, its more for the shock factor and "oh gross duuude!" kind of entertainment. Just a fun series overall, not really meant to be taken artistically serious.

I love this franchise. Saw IV will always be my favorite. I guess probably because I was left wanting more since the way Saw II ended with that crazy plot twist that made be like THEY'VE DONE IT AGAINNNN!! But I just wanted to know what happened to Detective Matthews and me not getting answers in Saw III made me like Saw IV because it was like picking up where the second film left off. Oh and Rigg was such a beast just searching to find his friend so I loved that aspect too. Didn't end well as we all know but I still enjoyed it. Most people would probably disagree because it's not any of the first 3 but to each his own. Looking forward to Saw Legacy though. Wonder how that's gonna turn out. Especially in terms of the storyline.

Maybe love would be the bad word, but I really liked them, propably more than first one. I think Saw was the first series that made me watch all movies in a row, across two days. Really liked how connected all of the parts were, made me want to watch the next one after each credit roll (well, start of it, I don't really watch credits). Even if protagonist of 3 irritated me really hard (worst protagonist ever), and some other protagonists choices were irritating too, but in horror movies heroes have to make dumb choices from time to time.

As much as I enjoyed the Saw movies, with the exception of 7, part of me wishes it would be a 7 season television series written by the same guys who did Dexter and 24. Each movie is its own season, the story would have been longer, smarter and the characters would be more developed. And it would be released in October.

I don't think you need all that for them to be scary. I love the Amityville movies and The conjuring movies, stuff like that. The second Amityville kept me up for 2 weeks straight when I was a kid. I was a projectionist one night at a regal and it was split between a kids movie and a horror movie, i wanted to say it was the most recent halloween movie. I threaded the halloween film and i got the que to switch to the movie projector, Right as I was going to press the start button I looked down through the window and saw a couple kids running up and down the steps, I was like "wait a minute..." and checked the schedule and it was supposed to play the G rated movie at that time hahaha. The plot was respectable after Saw 4. 5,6 and 7 can go straight to the gutter. And someone who is also not into gore movies, I kinda liked what Jigsaw had to offer.

Those 2000 horror movies hit different with their low budgets, they just seemed better, as a little kid that saw horror movie previews I always had nightmares because of it

I was in that theatre when SAW 3D came on and I know I'm going to hell for saying this but I LOVED IT I was so happy it wasn't Mega Mind I had watched all the SAW films and I wanted to finish the franchise
