I think the expat drunk driver is the most common danger to Filipino people from foreigners now. The first filipina I dated mother was ran over by a korean foreigner on a street bike 2 years before we dated. She was coming home from work or market and crossing the highway. They live in Makati and the accident happened on Ayala at a crosswalk. He was convicted and sentenced to almost 3 years in a Filipino prison and then he will be deported. .The S. Korea government also barred his VISA for ten years, but I think he is banned from reentering the Philippines. Then my ex-girlfriend's sued him. They had started the lawsuit when me and her broke up, but they were asking for like 50,000,000 pesos to pay for her hospital bills and 10 years of labor. I pray that the courts reward all of most of it to them. They were good people. Pray your family is doing well, sister.

One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. In America it is common for people to escalate and get upset when they get bad service. I was taught in Asia it is never to your advantage to get upset and yell at people. Usually, the person loses respect for you, and they just stop listening. Also, as a man, I know I didn't just get better looking by getting off an airplane. Wherever you go, take it slow and try and learn the customs and culture of the place you are visiting. Very good video Leah and a helpful reminder to all us expats.

Hello Leah. I've been all over the world and the biggest idiots are the one who think the host country need to adjust to them instead of them adjusting to the new culture. Your right, its so embarrassing. One bad apple can ruin the whole bunch!

Hi Leah, I afraid some westerners think being rude to staff shows of their masculinity (it has the opposite effect). Same thing with telling a girl how many women they have had (everybody wants him) so you should want him to, and it works. Dating in the west is more like combat, what can she get, what can he get out of this, hence hookup culture, not something I’m interested in. Thanks for your content Leah.

Very good video Leah. You personal explanation on behaviour standards are spot on. Personally me #1 treat people how you wish to be treated #2 if in another country respect their culture. # 3 if you intend to drink more than you can handle, stay home. #4 smile, if something goes wrong, example ordering food, quitely explain that your orders in nit correct, manners goes along way towards a resolution. Cheer Leah, regards Gary, kids and close family. ❤ from Australia 🇦🇺

You have explained well why I have spent the last 18 years in Asia (China and the Philippines). My previous life in North America was more than enough time spent with needless aggression and senseless rushing to get nowhere fast. I will take the relatively slower pace here in Dumaguete over the frantic rush to "get ahead" in the west. I tried to understand what or who we were trying to get ahead OF. I never found a rational answer to that question in my own mind. Hence, my more relaxed and satisfying life here in Asia.

Its ofcourse not really smart if a Filipina has a relationship with a young foreigner, who is on holiday, not retired, so he has to go back to his country, and have unsafe sex. She should know that there is a big chance he will leave and not come back.

My fiancé is in Nueva Ecija on Luzon in a small town called Jaen. It’s the rice capital of the Philippines. There aren’t a lot of expats there, maybe none. You’ll see a few foreigners in the mall in Cabatuan. I agree, sexpats are disgusting. Using women or having transactional relationships will leave a man feeling empty, lonely and probably broke in the long run.

I'd get in trouble because I never drink. It annoys people sometimes. 😅 But btw, a lot of people in the West have serious substance abuse issues sadly, often due to trying to cope with stress or traumas. Also, a lot of people in the West have serious emotional attachment issues due to our modern culture around private life and dating. It's definitely important to know about these things for any Filipina who decides to date a foreigner. (Don't be sorry about the word - it can be actually disgusting, I totally agree.)
@webstertyrrell9412 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Many foreigners, not just westerners show their bad side when they get here. They forget that they are a guest in this country. It is why so many people here have a bad attitude toward foreigners and why many think we all have a certain attitude. I'm not attacking anyone with my next statement, but what about the other way around? It would be nice if you produced a video about the types of women that foreigners should be wary of and avoid.

A lot of good men going to the PH with either marriage intentions or honest that they just want fun. But also some jerks and weirdos. Had a young backpacker follow me and my girl around the airport. Didn't say anything, just always trying to get next to her. I finally told him to move on or I was going to move him along. Also some Euro-trash (most are good) being rude and downright mean to street children and bad talking filipino people. Nice video. I love the PH and the filipino people.

On the flip side to this, I went to see my girlfriend at the time in Cagayan De Oro and we arranged to go to Tinago Falls by taxi. There were a few of us and on lady we invited asked if she could bring her half sister who was 15 at the time and I agreed, We stopped off and bought chicken, rice, fruits and pop (Sprite, coke and tango) on the way, The taxi driver stayed with us the whole day while we swam and had fun and of course we invited him to share the food and drink. Unfortunately he brought or purchased a couple of 1/3 bottles of rum and I was not happy when I saw him drinking it because I felt responsible for us all. Nobody else seemed to care our driver was drinking so much so I ended up drinking with him only to reduce the amount he drank,

Spreading babies is what concerned me about passport bros. Being a single mom is very difficult for Filipinas. It almost guarantees that you will permanently live in poverty. If you decide to date a foreigner you should make it understood that no sex before marriage, in my opinion. Its a very positive thing. Why? Bcuz it will show the filipina whether or not the foreigner really respects her and her wishes. If he respects her wish, she definitely has the right guy. If he demands sex or leaves Bcuz he don't want to respect her wish, she knows hes the wrong guy. What do you think?

In my respect. If you're going to a nuth country you tree there country and well as there culture with respect and if you or just wanting fun with the lads there then good to the big towns city you find that there or lads of the night to entertain your needs. As for drinks alcohol and your tank up full ov rage you take whot comes to you. So if you can't handle your drinks put it to one side. Because it's you how will faec the consequences at the end of the time. I have tried 7 times every year and I exited my stay for 6 months at a time. And not once that I have had a bad experience. I always been granted with a smile on there face men and women granted you good morning sir good afternoon good evening good night. Even the children thay respect you taken your hand and they Plas their head against your hands its their way of repeating you I dow the same if they is an old person than you I respect them by putting my head on there hands. And for those how or what a series relishing with a Philippine lady get to now hear and hear past and ask the lady you have that date with ask her and make if that she has heard you have you ever been married than you have to ask for definite if she said yes then it going to cost a lot of money as there is no divorce in Philippines and if she says no then you or the lucky 🍀 one why I tell you this because it will be hard for you to get a married visa for your lady to take her to your country.

I’m just afraid that there’s quite of few that do not represent our best, going to the Philippines. When there’s a cultural difference it’s harder for Filipinos to know what they are dealing with. Basically, outward rudeness signals that he’s a loser and someone to stay far away from and minimize exposure. There can also be love bombing narcissists that can put up a good act for a long time until they have you trapped. Pregnancy is a good trap for example. So, there’s jerks and psychos among the expats. It could be 40%, more or less. I do notice that the narcissists can’t introspect and explain their thoughts and feelings very well.. They especially can’t tell you what they feel and think about moral questions. They can pretend but it will look artificial. However, if you can dive deeply into their moral reasoning, by asking questions, and find a lot of thoughtful contemplation, this is the genuine article, most often. Only time will tell for sure. They can only keep up an act for so long and then it grows tiring. They need so shift into the verbal abuse and disrespect phase, before too long, because that’s the only thing that makes them feel right about their self.

These guys, in many cases, are crass, disrespectful people no matter where they go. They are total embarrassments to most of us who see them exactly the way you see them. I steer clear of most fellow expats because, even though I enjoy having conversation with fellow Americans - I don’t like it when all they want to do is drink all day and night - and talk about their sexual conquests - that stuff is disgusting. I will never forget one guy who bragged to me about his ‘system’ of ‘courting’ in the Philippines: he liked to meet online, invite women to his condo - and for economy, he kept several Jollibee cheeseburgers in the fridge because ‘sometimes they get hungry’ - then he had this ridiculous ‘grading system’ for the women. I won’t go on with this, but suffice it to say that he was definitely one of the ‘Sex-pats’ you talked about. But - on a completely different note - not only ex-pats are rude to waitstaff. (And I’m not telling this story to, in any way, excuse or minimize ex-pat jerks - I just wanted to share my own experience). I went out with a Filipina - we were at Mang Inasal - there was a simple plate mix-up (they give you a green plate if you order unlimited rice which she did, but I didn’t). Somehow, I ended up with the green plate (we both ordered the same meal). She finished her rice quickly and called the waiter to the table for a refill - he told her in Tagalog that she had a white plate - so no UNLI (unlimited rice) for you.😊. She became instantly VERY mad - even to the point of screaming and cursing at him - all before I even knew what it was about. I tried to calm her down, I found out what was wrong and I apologized to the waiter and explained the mistake - I swapped plates with her and the waiter loaded her up with a plate full of rice. I was horrified at her behavior - not to mention taken completely off guard by it. I don’t condone mistreatment of waitstaff for ANY reason - and definitely not for something as ridiculous as this was. Even as I remained very calm - I told her that this was totally unacceptable behavior no matter what the issue was about the food. This was a character-defining moment - and I knew that it was over right then and there. I don’t always comment here Leah, but I watch a lot of your videos. You do good work; I can tell that you put thought into your content. Thank you.

Leah, or Leaha? I am a foreigner who wants to meet ONE pinay that wants to get married and move to the USA with her daughter. She likes me, but I think she drinks and can not see who I am [just a big ape] clearly. [joke] Men who believe their banana's are some sort of fire hose: Yep! I know those fools too well. Look up the word 'responsible' in your dictionary and you will see my picture in the definition. Is that foreign guy the reason my pinay doesn't want me to rent a car when I visit her? HA! When I break windows it is on accident. I am too strong for my own good. I may be crazy, but I'm not arrogant yet. I am working on it! [joke] WHEN I embarrass my pretty pinay it will be from my telling her over and over how beautiful she is. I remain impressed with her beauty inside and out, but I'm not a Sexpat. I'm old and TALL, so I look down on everyone! It isn't my fault that everyone else is short. Great topic, Leah. Thank you for sharing this information.

Not justifying this guy's actions, but why oh why can't the Philippines have traffic laws enforcement? Every other Asian country seems to have excellent traffic control. And the power outages, why? Do trees always fall on power lines? Do trucks plow down the electric poles? It seems, again, all the other Asian countries don't have this problem. These issues aren't relevant to culture or traditions. Perhaps you and Gary could give me a bit of a clue on this? Thanks.

Ofcourse we expats are no better, that's why I shake my head when Pinays talk bad about pinoys and tell reasons why they want foreigner over pinot. Many local men drink and drive here, many are runaway father's etc But when you talk about expats do this, it's suddenly sounds worse. This are men with one or more problems, regardless where in the world their coming from. There is no bigger crime that a expat is with minots compare to s Filipino does it. Both have s problem, both don't follow law and rules Also, if expats going to adapt the Filipino culture, the police and authority should be way more on guard and arrest law breakers , regardless of nationality ! Then more foreigners foreigners will understand that this is no lawless country .
