People and their harsh comments smh, lol. I could care less if you have a house full instruments. Thats your life, do what you want. Miserable people will always find something negative to say about you. I play bass as hobby. I could careless if that offends anyone. You shouldn't have to explain yourself to anyone. You worked hard to be at the level you're at musically. If a bunch a companies want to make you a bass, go for it. Who gives a damn what people think. If I was at your level musically you better believe I'll have a massive collection.

Great that RKM receives nice feedback and recognition for their work, the more quality luthiers are out there, the more choice is for the musicians. I'd definitely play this bass, I like that it has this reversed P thing going on, it adds this nice warmth to the sound and probably it's easier in the studio to mix it: everyone knows P bass. People talk to much about money, it's typical bs: the less knowledge the person has, the stronger opinion is shared. In case of color, I love the tone on your RKM 4, looks really great.

I hope you make a million dollars on any product you use/sell. You've put in the work and deserve it. I don't understand people being upset at professional musicians making business decisions in addition to their musical decisions. Bass looks great, hope I can get one.

The blue with relic looks amazing! Maybe the under coat doesn't need to be colorful (sunburst? not sure what it currently is. White under coat might be good), but relic is more appealing to me. Cream pickup covers would look the best for my liking. I always want a double reverse P config 5 string, killer!

IMHO the dark blue could look great as long as it doesn’t go the fender ‘dark night’ route. I think doing a 5 string line of the light blue like your 4 string with white pickups and chrome hardware would be incredible looking. Both basses sound amazing and I’ve really been enjoying a dream of form. PS- people that get upset about other people exercising their personal freedoms, whether it be bass choices, cars, homes etc. are a non factor and do not deserve to take up your time. You’re a great artist and you ought to be paid for the time and effort you put into your craft.

I have a completely different style and taste (and ability), but I can totally relate to the desire for a variety of great instruments and gear. I play professionally (at a lower level) and spend way more time and money than I should experimenting with gear. I don’t Need it, but it’s fun, it keeps me inspired when I’m in a rut, and it brings out new ideas and feelings in my playing. I can’t imagine anyone who plays bass not understanding that. BTW, I really like the lighter blue on your 4-string RKM. While I totally admire what you do, I’ve never really coveted your custom 5-strings-I’m not into fancy woods, and I don’t do much chordal stuff-but this one really appeals to me. It looks superb. Do you think they’d set one up with a low B instead of a high C when it’s in production?

Regarding the color of the bass : it’s cool it reminds me of a Spector 5 string bass that was Doug Wimbish’s main 5 string made in the late 80’s (when Kramer owned Spector). It’s hard to tell whether it’s blue or gray but it looks great! More importantly a gloss finish protects the bsss better and gives the bass more brightness and definition in my experience (I have 132 basses! If you ever come to Washington DC let me know if you want to check my collection). I never buy oil finishes nor matte finishes anymore (but that’s just me !). Keep up the good work ! Lalo García

Since you ask . . . I really like the colour of the 5-string RXM as it comes across on the videos, but somewhere between it and the blue of the 4-string would probably be good too. Not a fan of the 4-string blue though, personally. I like the chrome hardware on the maple headstock (black might be too much of a contrast) but black hardware on the body looks pretty sweet

Amigo Janek try the Lusithand on-board preamp one day! It’s a 4 knob 9 volt unit very easy to install and it will give you amazing control of your mids. May be not the best for slapping but for fingerstyle it’s killer ! I think you will be impressed it makes any bass sound almost like a Wal bass . You should try the Lusithand NFP double model (NOT the double special which is exclusively designed for multi-coil pickups Ala Wal!). luck and let me know if you ever experiment with this . Best wishes ! Keep on grooving ! Lalo García

I would love a color right in the middle between the blue and grey. And for all those lets say bad commets, what the hell guys, how many times a bass player of this caliber will openly talk about sponsor, technique, advise for gear, musical lessons and above all with all the patience in the world! I would love to have the opportunity to play one of rkm basses, but not on my price range for now, maybe in the future for sure

Hi Janek, from England... Re the bass, I personally would have the output socket at the side of the bass below the strap button, I would have a string retainer/tree for all 4 or 5 string's and I would keep the grey colour, but I'm unsure about the gloss finish... I would ask for sample's of different finishes.

The color choices are booooorrring! The best IMO is the 4-string relic version. Yeah, you need the relic to make it interesting, otherwise it’s just meh. Thinking outside the box, root beer brown could work.

Janek, I think you need to lead the "flip the P pickup" crusade; I've personally always found it utterly baffling that Leo Fender oriented the pickup the way he did, when even someone with a rudimentary knowledge of musical instruments would know that pushing the lower coil further back just thins out an even thinner tone from the D and G strings.

It's hilarious to me that people think you are doing the RKM collaboration just for the money! Reminds me of the joke about how to make a million dollars in the music business🤣 Also, I'd go for the lighter blue color if I had to choose between the two. With the pedals, instead of committing to always checking them in a bigger case, why not commit to always carrying them on? That way you don't need a bulky case at all, so it's easier to carry around, plus you always know they're not gonna get thrown around or lost

Two questions. In the new book for each category you seem to traverse the circle of fifths but the starting key changes. Is this to make it more interesting? Or something else we should be noticing? Are you sure this new bass wouldn’t play better in color such as orange ?
@janekgwizdala
@janekgwizdala 21 сағат бұрын
It's very important to understand the difference between the "Circle of Fifths" -- a phrase that is very commonly thrown around -- and the "cycle of fourths" -- what my book uses for almost every example. The circle of fifths organizes notes in a sequence of 5th intervals. C-G-D-A-E-B etc.. the cycle of fourths moves in intervals of a fourth each time: C-F-Bb-Eb-Ab etc... I like organizing my exercises in the cycle of fourths because it goes from the least dense to most dense key signatures in flats, switches over to sharps, and then gets decreasingly denser until you end up at G major or E minor. As a jazz musician, so much of the music I know, love, and play follows these intervals and resolutions of fourths, and I think it's a useful tool for the ear to get used to it. Nothing wrong with either approach, I just happen to have chosen this one for all my books.
