***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

Father, we lift this family and all their farm, with particular petitions over their calf, Henry. May this family continue to see the health of Henry improve. May Your Wisdom and Clarity be granted beyond what is present. May Jesus’ Peace be received fully. All these prayerful petitions and those unspoken be lifted up to You. Amen.

When you try to keep a calf this size still ,either to give injections or in your case, to remove the trocar, it really helps to have one person use their body to push the calf up against a gate or wall and tilt the calf's head up so they stay still. You can put you leg in front of their shoulder to prevent them from moving forwards. The other person can put their leg behind or on the hip. It makes your job way easier.

Many years ago on our farm i saw my dad save a cow with bloat. He secured a stick across the cows mouth holding it as far open as possible then he made her walk and walk and walk. She began belching the gas up as she moved along finally releasing the pressure from both ends. I dont remember exactly what he thought she ate but he saved her life.

Hopefully Henry will continue to improve. You have both done as much as you can for him, now it's up to Henry to heal. Rest and sleep after a good feed and some normal movement is what he needs. Tomorrow you will probably know which way he is going to go, uphill or downhill. We all hope it's uphill.

Hi Guys 🙋🏻‍♂️ ! Are you giving the calves any grain or can they get at Hopes grain? Because grain and green grass can cause problems with bloating! Normally there is a reason they bloated but sometimes it’s just a genetic flaw! I’d find ur self a piece of garden hose about 4 feet long with no ends on it . If he bloats again u push one end of that hose down his throat just keep pushing it in slow until u hit the air pocket . Normally it takes about 5 to 10 seconds and air is gone but be prepared that air smells BAD! Good luck but it’s going to be something ur going to want to watch thru out Henry’s life because it can happen fast!

Rita, I was at a friends farm & they had a sheep that was bloated, the farmer asked us to hold the sheep & he took a long knitting needle & counted down in between its ribs. When he found the spot he wanted he stuck the needle into the stomach & the smell was awful. That took care of the problem.

One time when i was just a child, i was at my friends house, and the vet came to take a look at a sheep that had past away out on the field....we where not allowed to watch...so we had to sneek peek :) when he did an autopsy (?)....that smell can i not describe tho!!!

Bloat is rough! The first thing we did was get them up and moving, and I've tubed several to release the gas. I keep a trocar on hand just in case tho!! I've raised several bottle calves and I swear the Holstein were the worst for it. I've never had a Jersey do it. We only keep Herefords now and (knock on wood) haven't had a case in a few years.

I’ll say it! Praise you Lord God. Thank You for blessing this animal known as Henry. You are an awesome God and we thank You and praise You for You alone are worthy. Please continue to bless Henry with continued healing and improvement in his health. Hopefully whatever it was that caused him to get into the state of illness he was in doesn’t happen again and if there is anything that is in the environment that would have caused it, please bring it to the attention of Kevin and Sarah so this can be prevented from occurring again if possible. If it was a fluke accident then I pray for continued safety for all the cows/calves on this homestead. Keep them safe and in good health. Not just them but ALL of those living on the homestead. I call for and pray for asking in the name of Jesus and by the blood of Jesus Christ a hedge of protection for all life on this property. A hedge going around over and under the property here extending far beyond that the eye can see or the mind can fathom. I plead the blood over this homestead Lord. I thank You and I praise You Lord Jesus for hearing and answering my prayer. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray! Amen and amen.

Glad Henry is better. I grew up on a ranch and owned cows until a few years ago. When they bloated we used a pocket knife to make a hole into its stomach and put a six inch of garden hose placed into the hole to let off the gas. One day 15 of the steers got into the alfalfa field and bloated and I had to stick all of them. They all survived. The sooner you catch bloat the more likely they will survive.

When you said Dipyrone my stomach sank, Do you know what caused the bloat? We had this happen with our horses and finally discovered that it was from mold in the grain that we got from the grain elevator, (horses can’t eat any mold) my sister saw what she thought was a bit of corn cob in the grain and picked it out to look at it and it crumbled in her hand so she smelled it and it was mold, the Vet bills were enormous! Not to mention walking the horses for twelve hours so they don’t Lie down and roll which would cause their gut to flip and twist and eventually kill them. I’m glad that time in my life is over. Do you have to walk Henry to make his gut move?

My prayers go out to you and Henry! His bloating reminds me of something that happened to one of my calves years n years ago, where we had some weeds growing in our back pasture , sorry can't remember the name for the life of me.. but it had little prickles on it, anyways it gave my calf the worst indigestion and I had to give him a pill every few hours. My foster father was told to look for and remove the weed, roots n all, perhaps your vet would know of such a plant? it was like nearly 40 yrs ago sorry I can't remember the plant though I been trying very hard to remember.

I agree... caves r like puppies. They will eat anything. I was wondering if he had eaten something that caused a blockage. I would differently b cking his stools to see if they r normal it if there is any blood in them

It's hard when your animals get hurt or are sick. Even with our chickens that are a lot more fragile than cows usually, it's hard to see them having a tough time. Best wishes for Henry's speedy recovery.

You certainly have my prayers. I was holding my breath when you were taking that plug out of him! Poor little guy. I hope all goes well.🙏🏻 And crazy as this sounds when I first saw that kitty I thought her name should be "Patches" because of her markings and then you said her name and I almost fell over!!!❤️🙏🏻😘

God cares about our animals big and small. We had a mini farm when I was a kid. There was 50 chickens, 2 pigs and Katie the cow. My Mom found a chicken laying in the mud pretty much dead. It was about a month old. She wrapped it in a towel, brought it in by the wood stove and gave it water with a dropper. It lived. 😊 Be encouraged. You are amazing homesteaders and have done what’s been recommended. Now, the rest is in HIS hands. I have learned so much from your channel. Blessings. 🇨🇦😊💕🙏🏻

Hoping Henry recovers. Did you reconsider giving him that injection you were planning to give before he nursed?

Your Patches is a beautiful calico. My Patches was a beautiful tortoise shell. At 16 years old she was going through kidney and liver cancers and we put her to sleep 4 months ago. Not only were tears running down my face at your introduction to your Patches but for Henry too.

I'm sending Henry some healing thoughts!♥️ I wonder if he'd drink some of that nutritional stuff (set out or from a bottle maybe)? I'm really happy to see a cat! I can understand your needs, but they come in a bazillion different personalities. I think the right ones just need to find you. ♥️ (& Spay/neuter!)

Good morning! So glad you found Henry! I had an old timer who has since passed away once tell me to “ put your livestock in either a small paddock by the barn or in a stall....you will avoid many injuries and vet bills..there are too many things that go bump in the night to cause injuries”..praying for y’all! God bless!❤️🙏🏻✝️🐂
