game is a service, not an art, you are correct
@stephanvanderwoerd44057 жыл бұрын
h mc it can be art
@hisyam92717 жыл бұрын
sorry but according Hideo Kojima it is not, see www.eurogamer.net/articles/news240106kojimaart www.rogerebert.com/rogers-journal/video-games-can-never-be-art I just put the short excerpt in here, you should read the whole thing: I'm an avid gamer of over 20 years, but games are not art. "People like to think anything which creates some sort of emotional reaction or engagement to be art, but that's incredibly messy use of language; language and words are clearly defined for a reason. If I'm emotionally impacted by taking a dump, does that make it art? Absolutely not, and to assert such a thing is an absurd notion. Video games are defined by interaction and experience. Art, as much as pretentious, self-proclaimed "artists" and "art connoisseurs " would like you to believe, is not experienced, it is observed. However, that doesn't make it any less valuable, it's just the simple truth of it. On the same token, saying that games are not art is not a slight against them at all. People like to think that there is some negative stigma on games, that they are somehow less valuable than art is. Well,life itself suggests otherwise. Games, and the very nature of "play," have been instrumental in the development of life. Games become a meaningful experience because they present challenges that must be overcome, much like life itself. You need to learn the game system, the rules of interaction, and then you need to develop the knowledge to make informed decisions, and the skill to execute your decision. The end result holds meaning because it's something you've had to work for, and because the skills you've developed and the knowledge you've gained are real. Modern gamers have lost touch with this, because they do not like gameplay. They press for games to have "deep engrossing stories," rather than deep, meaningful interaction. It's because people don't like to work, and don't like to fail. Games require one and present the consequence of the other. That's why modern games like Uncharted, Journey, The Waking Dead, etc. amount to little more than shallow, inconsequential experiences. The interaction is dumbed down to minimize the potential of failure, and the fail consequence is all but nonexistent. Instead, gamers do little more than act as the invisible hand guiding their avatar along the singular, pre-determined path, trivializing their own agency in what is supposed to be an experience defined by their agency. Roger understood games far better than the overwhelming majority of gamers, and he wasn't even a gamer."
@clmBerserker7 жыл бұрын
+h mc I disagree with all your statments. "Games become a meaningful experience because they present challenges that must be overcome" This is ''game'' is not described by this therfore totaly irrelevent. "Modern gamers have lost touch with this, because they do not like gameplay. They press for games to have "deep engrossing stories," rather than deep, meaningful interaction." Again it is projecting that because these games dont fit the discription therefore are not ''good games'', its totaly bullshit man. How hard is it to understand that ''meaningful interaction'' does not nececarilly lead to challenges to overcome. Hideo Kojima brilliant as he may be does not mean everything he says should be treated like scripture. As for games art disscusion: The 3d model designs are created by what? 3d artists. The music in games are created by what? Music artists. almost all games Hideo Kojima ever made are diffrent works put together to create something that fits together cohesively. If the individual works are art then why together would they stop being conciderd art? Does that mean he would not consider music/movies art? sounds confusing to me. Excuse me if I sound agressive thats just the way I think. Interesting read though. peace ;-)
@platoniczombie7 жыл бұрын
+h mc I don't know, I suppose how you define art will deepen or shorten your expectations. If you discount poetry, stories, and film as art, then I suppose when you state "Art, as much as pretentious, self-proclaimed "artists" and "art connoisseurs " would like you to believe, is not experienced, it is observed," it suggests that you discount those? I mean, in what way do you differentiate between experienced and observed? To observe something IS an experience. A setting, like a museum, is the backdrop for people to "observe" "Art." This setting is an experience which people partake in to experience another, or their own, culture. I mean our language requires us to the word experience to describe how we as people interact with culture, be it our own or another's.

He could have listen to Alan Watts more carefully. "What you are is always changing" is the opposite of his message. What looks out our eyes -- sees and experiences all that changes, but itself never changes. What silently watched our life (thoughts, emotions, senses, feelings, occurrences, etc) from our earliest memory, silently watches still. Discovering you are what experiences, and not what is experienced, is called "awakening".

The game is super fun for the narration bits, but that's about the only fun. After that it gets pretty boring.

Yup, it's a great introduction and visualization of Alan watt's concepts and ideas, but as a video game ? falls fuckin flat

. 3:25 "It takes the game from feeling like a weird acid trip into something that's a lot deeper... and just... real." How do you sound so damn insincere? It's genuinely impressive. That pause, dear sweet ghost of Murgatroyd, so... phoney. That weird, affected pretension of gravity when you speak, it's unavoidable. Your country is saturated by it. You've reached peak prevalence. Help.

Sounds good but Allan watts was taking his experience and philosophically elaborating it from one man's point of view you won't get his intelligence from a game when he got his experience from the real world study terrance McKenna and DMT you might get basic constructs of the problem bit never th3 while picture unless you were on the e xperince with th3m finickl3 things hallucinations our
@anotheraesopclone95346 жыл бұрын
Allan watts talked about the potential for hallucinations sure. However he never met nor studied terence Mckenna's work as a huge fan of both im sure of it. Also he never said you need hallucinations for understanding what he said.

I highly recommend this game. It's far from your typical video gaming experience, but it is one of the most soulful and transcendent gaming experiences I've ever had. In other words, it is a very "trippy" experience.

What makes a game fun are 10 things: REALISTIC ANIMATIONS REALISTIC + GOOD GRAPHICS ACTIONS, EMOTES MORE INTRACTIONS WITH ANYTHING REALISTIC MOVEMENTS DIFFERENT THINGS TO DO MORE CHARACTERS AND COLOURATION( CHOICES) ALSO WILDERNESS THAT INCLUDES ANIMALS SINGLEPLAYER AND MULTIPLAYER ONLINE WITH DIFFERENT WAYS TO CHAT ABLILITY TO MAKE A FAMILY --- I love games that have you to control living things, What i also love is to have more actions even if their small details. Many games includes simulation but all of them miss one thing in total, and i always wished that they had it to make the gameplay fully proper, And Fun.
